Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1634: Chapter 1634: Neither Superman nor Iron Man

”Mr. Yan, I understand how you feel, but right now, aside from waiting and trusting Qin Jian, we have no other choice.” An Hao gripped his arm, clenching tighter and tighter.

”I understand.” The feeling of seeing a beloved person trapped and being powerless to help is truly unbearable.

”Then... Mr. Yan, your task now is to take good care of Qiushu’s grandmother and mother... to prevent any problems from happening to them,” An Hao said.

Yan Ye slowly said, ”Do you know? This is the first time I’ve felt that even spending a couple of years in the military barracks would be better, at least I could be of some help then...”

”Mr. Yan, you don’t have to blame yourself. Our responsibilities and roles are different,” An Hao softly consoled him, ”When our loved ones face serious health threats, we often wish we were doctors, able to personally save their lives. Mr. Yan, have I told you? My studying medicine was because of my mother.”

”Thank you, An Hao!” Yan Ye said gratefully, ”Your words have eased my heart a lot.”

”There’s no need for thanks between you and me. Besides, it has always been you, Mr. Yan, who has been helping me... I am just stating the facts. We are all flesh and blood, emotional beings, not superheroes or made of steel...”

”Superheroes?”

”Um... uh... yes. They’re very powerful people, capable of doing anything!”

Yan Ye understood, and he nodded gently, ”If there’s any news about Qiushu, please notify us immediately.”

”Okay!” An Hao agreed.

..........................

It was already the fourth day. Qiushu lay on the ground, dozing off. The high tension had kept her from closing her eyes for three days and nights.

Today, at noon, Wang Jiu left, leaving Qiushu alone here.

Eventually, unable to fend off the onslaught of sleepiness, she fell asleep.

She didn’t know how long she had slept, but suddenly she heard some mumbling voices nearby and immediately opened her eyes alertly.

Her gaze turned to the window, and amid a pile of overgrown weeds, she saw several silhouettes.

”How much did you pay for this car?”

”If it were someone else asking, I might jack up the price, but for you guys, it depends on how much you’re willing to give...”

”Alright. Brother! Everyone says you’re a stand-up guy, and I agree. Here’s the deal: I’ll give you some cash, and we’ll offset the rest with goods. How does that sound? Whatever you make by selling the goods later is all yours.”

”Deal!”

After listening for a while, Qiushu finally understood that Wang Jiu was plotting to sell his car during this period.

Well, if that could keep him quiet and occupied for a while, it was better than anything.

Qiushu really dared not imagine what it would be like if Wang Jiu came at her again with a syringe?

This stuff, she had seen it abroad and was not unfamiliar with it.

In the eighties, the border had seen its fair share of people trafficking this stuff. This socially destructive substance began to gradually infiltrate the inland, devastating many families.

There were many types of these substances, but they had a collective name: drugs.

She was fully aware of what kind of reaction these substances would have once they entered the human body. She couldn’t guarantee that if she were injected with this stuff, she would have the willpower to fight against it.

Wang Jiu was only after money, so on a critical day, a brilliant idea for self-rescue flashed through her mind.
