Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1613: Chapter 1613: Recognizing a Godmother

”Bringing these things over was also my grandmother’s idea. She heard that Chief Ning’s heart isn’t in the best condition, so she specifically asked me to bring some ginseng, saying that it does have an effect on replenishing energy,” said Lin Qiushu.

”Then we really have to thank her. It’s very kind of her,” Ning Yibin said, coming out holding his child in his arms.

”Uncle Ning, you really don’t need to be so polite,” Lin Qiushu smiled sweetly, ”My grandmother also has heart issues, so she understands the pain very well.”

”Why didn’t you bring your grandmother along this time? It would have been nice for us all to have a meal together and enjoy the company,” said Zhang Yun.

”She’s old and doesn’t enjoy going out much! But she asked me to deliver a message that she’s truly grateful to all of you, as you are relatives of the Xiao Family.”

”Qiushu, let’s not talk about that kind of sentiment among us! What’s this about thanking me, and me thanking you? If we keep thanking each other back and forth, there’ll be no end to it, right?” An Hao said while tying on her apron.

”Right! We should just get along well from now on. Oh, and I’ve prepared two little red envelopes for the baby,” Lin Qiushu said as she was about to take money out of her purse.

An Hao quickly stopped her hand: ”What are you doing? Do you think money just comes to you out of thin air?”

”It’s for the child, not for you,” Lin Qiushu gave her a white look, ”Shouldn’t I, as the child’s godmother, do at least this much?”

”Godmother?” Qin Jian was taken aback, ”When did you become the child’s godmother? How come I didn’t know about this?”

”I’ve self-proclaimed it,” said Lin Qiushu as she moved closer to Qin Jian to play with the baby in his arms, ”Sweetie, smile for your godmother!”

Little Chenguang seemed to understand what she said, and his mouth curved into a smile, letting out a cheerful laugh.

”Look, he recognizes me,” Lin Qiushu said, very satisfied.

”Alright,” An Hao took the red envelopes and said to Lin Qiushu, ”I’ll count you as the godmother then. And when you have a son, you’ll have to acknowledge me as the godmother too.”

”It’s a deal,” Lin Qiushu readily agreed.

”Wow, we are truly doubly blessed today,” Zhang Yun laughed and took Lin Qiushu’s hand. Looking down, she noticed the bracelet she was wearing – the very one that An Hao had pawned previously.

Zhang Yun inexplicably liked it.

Lin Qiushu, noticing Zhang Yun’s gaze and the fondness in her eyes, curved the corner of her mouth and asked with a smile, ”Auntie, do you like this bracelet?”

Knowing that Lin Qiushu was very generous, Zhang Yun was genuinely afraid that if she said she liked it, Lin Qiushu would take off the bracelet and give it to her, so she quickly shook her head.

”No. Uhm, I don’t like it.”

Lin Qiushu laughed, ”If auntie really likes it, I would very much like to give it to you. But this bracelet has a special meaning to my grandmother...”

”Of course, I know. You all worked very hard to find this bracelet,” Zhang Yun had seen all the effort herself.

”But if auntie truly likes it, I can give you a similar one.”

”No no no, please don’t give me one,” Zhang Yun was startled and quickly waved her hand to refuse, ”I was just reminded of my own mother when looking at this bracelet.”

”Oh, did your mother also have a connection with the bracelet?” Lin Qiushu asked casually.

”Yes,” Zhang Yun faintly remembered her mother’s image, ”We were poor back in those days, and I couldn’t afford anything decent. But she took a fancy to a bracelet and just wouldn’t let go of it.”
