Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 343: Chapter 341: Anxious and Harsh Criticism

In the car, An Hao leaned against the seat, her knee throbbing with pain that made her shiver uncontrollably.

”Does it hurt a lot?” Qin Jian saw that her lower lip was turning white from biting it and his face was full of concern.

”Mhm,” acknowledged An Hao with a nod. She had been worried that her kneecap might have shattered in that moment.

”With such heavy rain, why didn’t you stay put in the school instead of running around recklessly?” Qin Jian’s face turned stern as he lectured An Hao, relieved that her bones weren’t seriously damaged. If her bones had been hurt, he would have been devastated.

”Isn’t it because I finally had a day off and wanted to come see you? If it weren’t for missing you, I wouldn’t have come! If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have encountered that nasty car and gotten into this mess, and I wouldn’t have hurt my leg!” An Hao was already in pain, and suddenly being scolded with such a grave face made her feel a bit wronged.

”An Hao, I’m not scolding you! I’m reasoning with you! Next time it’s raining and there’s no need, don’t run around; isn’t it better if I come to see you?” Qin Jian raised his voice slightly.

”Is it necessary to be so stern when reasoning? And why are you raising your voice at me!” Accustomed to Qin Jian’s usually silent but tender demeanor with her, An Hao was taken aback to see him scold someone and felt wronged, her eyes welling up with tears.

Qin Jian realized that he had been overly anxious and somewhat intimidating, so he quickly composed himself and apologized, ”I’m sorry, I was a bit too anxious just now! I raised my voice too much, don’t take it to heart.”

”I don’t mind!” An Hao turned her face away, refusing to look at him.

”Are you angry?”

”Not at all!”

Qin Jian turned her head back and saw her eyes, red and brimming with tears.

”Why are you crying? Did I scare you into crying?”

”I’m not!” denied An Hao.

Qin Jian felt a bit guilty for having been too harsh and frightening her, ”How about you scold me in return? I promise I won’t talk back, okay?”

”Qin Jian, I never realized you were such a talker before,” An Hao said, her tears turning into laughter.

”So you’re not upset anymore?”

”Mhm,” An Hao nodded her head, ”It’s just that I felt a bit upset for a moment.”

Qin Jian breathed a sigh of relief and reached out to touch An Hao’s cheek, ”Do you know what I’m most afraid of?”

------------

”What?”

”Your tears! When you cry, I just don’t know what to do.”

”Fine. Then, if you’re mean to me again, I’ll cry just for you.” An Hao looked at him sideways, a playful pout in her voice.

Qin Jian had seen An Hao’s gentle, fiery, and shy sides, but this was the first time he witnessed her acting so coquettishly.

But then again, she was only eighteen or nineteen years old, so a little coquetry was normal.

Seeing her act like a wronged little wife, Qin Jian’s heart melted completely.

”If I’m ever mean to you again, you just be mean right back to me!” Qin Jian ruffled her hair as he spoke, but then again, how could he bear to be harsh with her?

”I don’t want to... I just want you to feel guilty... and then pamper me...” An Hao finished speaking and rested her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes exhaustedly.

”Ah...” Tian Niu, driving in the front seat, listened to the dialogue between the two in the back, green with envy, ”Mr. Qin, I never knew you were so tender with a woman! But if I had such a girlfriend, I’d hold her in the palm of my hand too!”
