I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 619: Chapter 618:

Ma Tianlai asked Beisitian, then said to Maynard, ”That’s possible. When do you have time?”

Maynard smiled, ”I don’t have much time left in China, if possible, I’d like to meet now.”

There were less than five days until the reception, and once it ended, he had to return to the United Kingdom, so he really didn’t have much time.

”That works, Doctor Bei just mentioned that today is fine as well,” Ma Tianlai said.

Maynard felt it was not quite appropriate to visit someone’s home, but considering that Beisitian was pregnant, he decided to meet nearby.

Although he held a special status, he wasn’t a public figure, and this visit didn’t involve multiple interests, so it was unlikely anyone would target him. Of course, he still had very diligent security measures.

With two bodyguards, Maynard and Ma Tianlai went to a serene teahouse near Beisitian’s home. Ma Tianlai parted with Maynard midway, driving off to pick up Beisitian.

It wasn’t long before Beisitian arrived, followed by Chen Jinliang and Ma Tianlai.

The environment of the teahouse was very tranquil, and being in such an atmosphere naturally calms one’s mind.

Seeing Beisitian’s arrival, Maynard smiled and made a gesture of invitation, ”I didn’t expect us to meet again.”

Beisitian sat down and also smiled, ”Yes, I didn’t expect to see Mr. Wu again.”

Maynard poured a cup of tea for Beisitian and said, ”It’s okay if the tea is mild, my wife used to drink it like this.”

Beisitian nodded, indeed there’s no issue with the amount.

”The reason I asked you here is to thank you and your husband for your invitation and help that day. Although we didn’t get into Tanze Temple, I still felt very happy,” Maynard said sincerely.

This was his main reason for wanting to meet Beisitian; he wanted to say thank you in person. He originally thought it wouldn’t be possible, yet here they were, meeting.

Since Heavenly Blessing belongs to this young mother, Maynard didn’t plan to make things difficult for them anymore. This issue had little to do with Heavenly Blessing; it was just an upper management marketing strategy. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong person, causing trouble for themselves.

”Mr. Wu is a person of character; there’s no need to dwell on such a small matter. With Mr. Wu here, we’re also very happy,” Beisitian said with a smile.

Maynard smiled, no wonder his wife always said fate is mysterious, and indeed it was. It must have been fate that he had this serendipitous reunion with this young mother.

”Furthermore, I must thank you for giving me Mr. Wu’s calligraphy. Although I’m not skilled in calligraphy, I’ve always seen my wife write, so I have some understanding of Chinese calligraphy—a very fascinating writing style,” Maynard said with a smile.

It was his wife who had piqued his immense interest in Chinese culture.

Hearing him mention his wife more than once and seeing a hint of regret in his eyes, Beisitian said with a gentle smile, ”Your wife must feel fortunate to have a husband like you.”

A man who takes an interest in his wife’s hobbies and habits implies that he always keeps an eye on his wife’s actions and holds her feelings in his heart, hence developing an interest in a completely different culture.

Speaking of his wife, Maynard’s gaze was soft; he shook his head and said, ”Meeting her was my fortune, but unfortunately, she no longer remembers me.”

Beisitian was stunned upon hearing this; she had thought his wife was no longer alive and asked, ”Why doesn’t she remember you?”

This was a rather abrupt question, considering their relationship hadn’t reached a level where such personal questions would be appropriate, but Maynard didn’t mind. He replied with a faint smile, ”My wife has Alzheimer’s disease and has completely forgotten everyone.”

Alzheimer’s disease is essentially dementia!

Beisitian was taken aback—dementia? Judging by Maynard’s age of around fifty, his wife should be of similar age. How could she have dementia?

She had seen many patients with such conditions. If such a disease were to develop after the age of 65, it’s often due to external factors, like severe brain injuries or psychological trauma, though it could also be familial hereditary disease.

No matter the cause, having such a disease and to the extent of not recognizing people, the hope for a cure is nearly nonexistent.

Beisitian was silent.

”I actually came for my wife’s wish; I started investing in building Hope Primary Schools last year. Now the last Hope Primary School is completed, and I brought my wife back to her hometown. Unfortunately, even though her longtime wish was fulfilled, she will never know,” Maynard’s face showed a faint trace of sadness.

This was his greatest regret, a regret that might accompany him to his grave.

Maynard’s deep affection for his wife moved Beisitian. Many people say men are not to be trusted, and that foreigners are too romantic, yet she had found many good men around her.

”Thank Mr. Wu for investing in and establishing Hope Primary Schools for the children of our country, enabling many children who had no access to education to attend school and escape poverty in the future. No matter your intent, your dedication is worthy of respect!” Beisitian said sincerely.

She wasn’t a great person, but she admired people with such dedication. Maynard’s actions would benefit many children, and Beisitian’s gratitude was apt, though she could only thank him as an individual.

Despite being a foreigner, Maynard resonated well with Beisitian, so she said, ”I might have a way to let your wife know what you’ve done for her.”

Maynard was taken aback, then smiled, ”I heard you are a doctor, but this condition, once it reaches this stage, is nearly incurable.”

He was very thankful for Beisitian’s words, but he knew his wife’s condition very well.

”Completely curing it is unlikely, but I do have a way to temporarily restore some of her memory and mental faculties,” Beisitian said.

She wasn’t all-powerful, and many conditions even the Mystic Doctor couldn’t handle, especially those involving the brain domain.

Maynard looked at Beisitian, somewhat dazed. She spoke earnestly, not jokingly, and immediately asked, ”Are you serious?”

Beisitian heard this and smiled, ”I am serious.”

He couldn’t help but glance at the big-nosed man beside him, seemingly asking if this was true.

The big-nosed man looked at Beisitian, also somewhat doubtful, but still whispered in Maynard’s ear in English, ”Ancient civilizations have many marvels; sir, you could give it a try.”

Maynard thought it was indeed possible, even if it didn’t work, there’d be no loss.

On the side, Ma Tianlai, proficient in English, sighed silently hearing the big-nosed man’s words. Even foreigners are willing to believe Doctor Bei, yet many of their own countrymen are unwilling to trust her.
