I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 617: Chapter 616

Maynard was taken aback, ”Medicinal cuisine?” he muttered softly. He recalled that bowl of very tasty porridge, though there was only a little, and he still savored the memory after drinking it.

That’s what they call medicinal cuisine.

Thinking of this, Maynard immediately nodded, ”Sure, let’s go taste some Chinese medicinal cuisine.”

The translator smiled and, along with Maynard, took a few bodyguards and left.

Having been informed beforehand, the translator took Maynard to a nearby restaurant and ordered some soups and dishes.

Maynard, very intrigued, used chopsticks to pick up the food, handling the chopsticks very skillfully.

”Is this medicinal cuisine?” Maynard took a bite, feeling the taste seemed off, and showed a puzzled expression.

The translator felt a shiver in his heart and quickly said, ”There are many types of medicinal cuisine, generally, anything incorporating suitable herbs that provide nourishment to the body is called medicinal cuisine.”

Maynard put down his chopsticks, shook his head, and said, ”No, this is not the medicinal cuisine I’ve had before.”

The translator was stunned and couldn’t help but ask, ”Has Mr. Morris had Chinese medicinal cuisine before?”

He had received a generous gift and wanted Maynard to be interested in medicinal cuisine, thus making corresponding requests to the authorities, so he was shocked by his previous words, and surprised again by his current statement.

”Yes, it was brought to me by a young mother, who probably isn’t officially a mother. It was very delicious, without this strange taste, and after drinking that porridge, I felt very spirited. Of course, that might be a psychological effect, but the porridge was truly very tasty.”

As Maynard spoke, he reminisced about the taste of that medicinal porridge, the more he recalled, the more he wanted to have it.

The translator glanced at the soup, ordered on purpose to highlight the value of medicinal cuisine, so its herbal flavor was stronger, which also had much to do with the chef’s skills.

The translator took the opportunity to say, ”Actually, speaking of medicinal cuisine, one really should mention some old brands, like Heavenly Blessing, which makes particularly good medicinal cuisine. It’s very tasty, and everyone who tries it praises it highly.”

The translator spoke with a calm face, and Maynard, a foreigner, along with his foreign bodyguards, how could they possibly know when Heavenly Blessing was established, or if it’s an old brand?

Anyway, his job was to make Maynard interested in medicinal cuisine so that Heavenly Blessing could successfully become a sponsor.

As for whether Maynard would verify that or actually like Heavenly Blessing, that’s not something he needed to consider.

Maynard was indeed very interested, all due to the medicinal porridge brought by that young mother, so after returning, he really did make the corresponding request to the embassy, hoping to have medicinal cuisine at the reception.

The authorities were naturally delighted to hear Maynard’s request. If an essence of the country could go abroad, it would be a great boon for the country.

There were other candidates for the medicinal cuisine competition, but the most competitive was Heavenly Blessing.

Maynard didn’t quite understand these matters, but he could see that the translator deliberately introduced the concept of medicinal cuisine. Although not very familiar with the brand, he still had someone inquire about Heavenly Blessing, as it was eventually chosen by the authorities as the sponsor.

Though Maynard wasn’t very concerned about it, he didn’t want to be easily deceived either, so this inquiry indeed led him to uncover some things.

Regardless of whether Heavenly Blessing’s medicinal cuisine tasted good or not, the information was far too inaccurate. Maynard understood what an ”old brand” means, and how could a company not even half a year old be considered ”old”?

If he was properly recommended, he wouldn’t mind, but such deceitful tactics to achieve their goals made Maynard very angry.

In a fit of anger, he initially wanted to refuse to consume this sponsor’s food, but making a fuss over such a matter would be unbefitting of his aristocratic identity and could cause unnecessary misunderstandings with the authorities.

But he was unwilling to just compromise like this.

”You could meet the company’s boss, give them a hard time, and make them retreat tactically,” suggested his noble companion who came with Maynard.

Maynard thought this was a good idea, giving these enterprises a hard time would be more appropriate and simpler than posing problems for the authorities since it was the other party that deceived him first.

That way, when Ma Tianlai received the invitation from Mr. Mosley at the embassy, he was quite stunned.

Everyone knew that this time Mr. Mosley, this British aristocrat, was here for charity events, and the people he met besides officials and diplomatic personnel were mostly local leaders from remote areas.

Now that Heavenly Blessing had successfully secured a sponsor slot, Ma Tianlai didn’t think that the other party would want to meet him because of that, perhaps it’s because of Doctor Bei?

Ma Tianlai thought there was a big possibility, as Beisitian had mentioned before, he could try to bring it up.

Ma Tianlai went as invited, to a café by the North Sea, such coffee shops were still relatively few domestically because they had a small customer base. With a bit of money, people would rather buy meat, who would go for coffee?

Ma Tianlai arrived at the café and didn’t see Maynard, who had appeared on TV. Although it was brief, he remembered his looks.

”Mr. Maynard couldn’t make it, are you the boss of Heavenly Blessing?” A big-nosed foreigner sat there, looking coldly at Ma Tianlai.

Seeing this, Ma Tianlai’s smile vanished completely. Such an attitude, clearly not a welcoming one, not even bothering to stand up when he arrived, was very impolite and expressed a very unfriendly intent.

Why is this?

”Yes, I’m the owner of Heavenly Blessing...”

”OK, we’ve already learned about your information,” the other unceremoniously interrupted Ma Tianlai, ”Mr. Mosley states that he has an allergic reaction to your company’s products, and if they consume your Heavenly Blessing’s items at the reception, it might negatively impact the friendly development of both parties.”

There’s no need to say more about the subsequent words; the other party’s meaning was already very clear, hoping that Heavenly Blessing’s medicinal cuisine would not appear at the reception, otherwise Mr. Maynard would be unhappy, an unhappiness which could directly impact diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Of course, this implication was somewhat exaggerated, especially over such a trivial matter. If they contacted him privately, it surely wasn’t to be put on the table for public display.

But why?

Ma Tianlai couldn’t figure it out; especially running all the way here to get a slap in the face, it was the first time since his youth that he had been so humiliated, and by a foreigner!

Yet he couldn’t do much about it, otherwise it would not only trouble Heavenly Blessing, but the other party, in a fit of anger, might really have an adverse impact on friendly development.

This was something he didn’t dare to gamble on.
