I Became a Medical Genius in the 80s

Chapter 606: Chapter 605: Not as Capable as His Wife

Luo Xudong woke up with his eyes open, gazing at Beisitian’s face in the faint light from outside. He thought he would never see her again, and being able to see her again felt so good!

He cautiously tried to sit up, realizing his body wasn’t as weak as he had imagined. He was aware of how serious his injuries were, and the ability to move immediately upon awakening undoubtedly credited to his wife, Beisitian!

He propped himself up and reached out to caress Beisitian’s cheek. The soft and smooth sensation in his palm assured him that this was not a dream.

”I miss you so much,” Luo Xudong said softly.

He thought the sleeping Beisitian wouldn’t respond, but unexpectedly, she opened her eyes, her dazzling eyes like stars in the dark. They suddenly illuminated Luo Xudong’s heart, dispelling the gloom that had been lingering for some time.

Since Beisitian could only lie on her side after her belly grew bigger, Luo Xudong could easily touch her cheek. She woke up when Luo Xudong propped himself up.

Beisitian sat up, turned on the light, and came to Luo Xudong’s side, gently pushing his shoulders to make him lie down again.

”How do you feel?” Beisitian asked.

Luo Xudong shook his head, ”I’m fine.”

Whether he was fine or not, Beisitian wouldn’t just take his word for it. She examined him and found that most of his wounds had healed, and the fatal gunshot wound had recovered quickly, posing no more threat to his life.

”I made you worry,” Luo Xudong said, looking at Beisitian.

Beisitian was indeed resentful, but seeing Luo Xudong’s apologetic expression, she sighed. If possible, he wouldn’t have wanted to get hurt like this. He fought so hard for her and the child!

”Once is enough for such an experience, I was so scared,” Beisitian said, her eyes downcast.

God knows how she got through the day. That kind of experience was something she truly didn’t want to go through again.

Luo Xudong still struggled to sit up, and this small movement made his forehead bead with sweat.

”I’m sorry.”

Luo Xudong gently cupped her face and placed a kiss on her forehead.

Beisitian, seeing him struggle to sit up just to kiss her, felt a mix of amusement and warmth.

No matter how much worry and fear she had, it didn’t matter now; all that mattered was that he came back.

The two of them lingered for a while, alleviating the pain of separation, especially Luo Xudong, who felt an intense longing for Beisitian. If not for future goals, he would rather stay by her side, cook a meal for her, bring her a glass of water, and provide some comfort to his wife, who had been particularly hard-pressed due to pregnancy.

”I’m sorry,”

Luo Xudong said once more, looking at his heavily pregnant wife with guilt, realizing that no one’s company could substitute for his, yet he was not there, making her worry and exhausting herself to heal him.

Since it was midnight, they chatted for a while and then went to sleep to conserve their energy.

Mrs. Qin and Luo Anguo initially intended to keep watch, but Beisitian felt more at ease guarding the first night herself. Although she made talismans, she was not in a spirit void, so staying up all night wasn’t an issue.

Early in the morning, Mrs. Qin came in. Despite the designated visiting hours, Mrs. Qin had connections, and everyone on the floor knew, so they could come and go quite freely.

As soon as Mrs. Qin came in and saw Luo Xudong awake, she was overjoyed and placed the insulated food container by the bed, starting to wipe away tears as she looked at her eldest son.

”Mother, I’m fine now,” Luo Xudong said, wiping away Mrs. Qin’s tears.

”It was Little Tian’er who saved you. If it weren’t for her, you would have lost your life a long time ago!” Mrs. Qin said, feeling a bit angry afterward. ”You can’t go on like this. You have an elderly father and mother up there, and a pregnant wife. Your three children will be born in just a few months. How can you disregard yourself like this? How can you throw your life away! We hope for Ping’an in the future. If something happened to you... who would Little Tian’er depend on?”

These words left Luo Xudong without a word of retort. Although Mrs. Qin wasn’t educated, she had a remarkable perception of matters, and she wasn’t the type to act confused when it came to execution, something even Beisitian admired.

Having such a reasonable and kind-hearted mother-in-law was indeed a blessing.

Seeing how pale her eldest son still looked, Mrs. Qin didn’t have the heart to say much more. It was enough that he was awake. Otherwise, if Little Tian’er had to raise three children alone, even without financial worries, life would still be tough.

Having not expected Luo Xudong to wake up so soon, Mrs. Qin didn’t prepare any food for her son. The meal she brought was intended for Beisitian.

”Little Tian’er, you eat first. I’ll go back and make something for Xudong,” Mrs. Qin said and then left.

Beisitian opened the insulated food container. The top layer contained several buns, freshly steamed by Mrs. Qin herself, while the bottom layer had porridge made with ingredients according to Dong Fengzhen’s recipe.

Luo Xudong couldn’t eat these; he needed to have very bland food. The porridge had bits of meat that were hard to pick out, so they had to wait for Mrs. Qin to return.

At the moment, Luo Xudong wasn’t hungry. Watching his wife eat, his usually cold and stern features softened.

”I met Bei Jiale,” Luo Xudong said.

Upon hearing this, Beisitian looked at him. Although she had never doubted anything, his proactive mention of it reassured her greatly.

”I found her during a mission. She infiltrated the enemy’s arsenal to do something unknown, and when discovered, she escaped and was shot.”

At the time, the team led by Luo Xudong was monitoring from a vantage point. After seeing Bei Jiale escape with injuries, he dispatched two people to rescue her.

The mission was initially very smooth, and Luo Xudong was careful with his life, carefully planning each step. But he never anticipated a traitor among them, leading to most of their plan being leaked. Thanks to his astuteness, he managed to escape with a few others, preventing the entire team from being wiped out.

Not spotting the traitor in the team was his failure. As the captain, no matter how cautious he was, there were things he had to do.

During the scattered retreat, Luo Xudong attracted most of the attention, but the opponents were numerous and heavily armed. He sustained injuries multiple times but tried his best to avoid fatal wounds while retreating.

Ultimately, he was only human. Escaping that far with so many injuries was quite impressive. After taking a bullet to the chest, he managed to destroy the confidential documents before eventually passing out.

Later, it was Bei Jiale who saved him. If he previously doubted whether Bei Jiale was a Mystic Doctor, this time confirmed it.

She used talisman making to save Luo Xudong, thinking that he was unaware in his unconscious state. However, he vaguely saw her making talismans and thought to himself, she’s not as skilled as his wife!
