Chapter 1594: Despair or Hope

Atracaeaca Kingdom.

”This is…” A young soldier couldnʼt help but drop his jaw. Countless demons were encroaching on their land. No matter where he looked, he saw demons.

The number of demons was something no one had ever seen before.

Back then, when Noelʼs city was besieged by the demons, they brought 75,000 demons to the city. And there were so many demons that they had a hard time counting them, especially due to their various sizes.

And this time, the numbers were more than ten times that number.

The black dot that was seen from the distance gradually turned into a black line that covered their entire vision.

However, the demon invasion this time was unlike other demon outbreaks. Due to the existence of the Sky Demon King, the number of flying demons mixed into the demon army was uncountable.

The sky easily turned dark by their presence alone.

”How are we meant to fight something like this?” Another soldier turned pale.

Their commander was also shaking uncontrollably, but he still gritted his teeth and climbed the wall edge before shouting, ”Mighty soldiers of the Atracaeca Kingdom. I know you are scared. Iʼm scared too. However, if we remain scared like this, these demons will encroach on our land, destroy our home, and crush our wives, our children, or our future.

”We have to stop them even if itʼs the last thing we will do.” The commander turned around and looked them sincerely in the eye. ”My brothers. We might die today, but at least we wonʼt disgrace our ancestors. Letʼs drag as many of them down with us.”

His speech contained little hope. That was right. Even if they ran, they would die as well. So, they might as well drag a few demons with them.

”Uoohhh!”

The soldiers cheered at the top of their lungs. They were going to die anyway, so they just shouted to shake off their fear before raising their weapons.

Before the demons arrived, a huge shadow suddenly covered the fortress.

”!!!” The people were confused and turned around, wondering what was actually behind them.

It was there that they suddenly found a levitating ship. It maintained a certain distance from the fortress as it drifted to the side.

Multiple runes appeared on the shipʼs side as it shot thousands of light orbs.

The soldiers couldnʼt help but drop their jaws to the ground. The moment the light orbs hit the demons, the latter started falling one by one.

High-level demons came forward and started deploying their own energy to block the attack, but it was still not enough.

The light overwhelmed them.

”Oohhh!” The soldiers cheered.

”The demons are dying.”

”So cool. It is able to overwhelm the demons.”

”Itʼs just one part of the demon army. There are still countless more.” Another soldier pointed out the biggest problem. They were able to suppress the ones in front of them, but there were still enough demons on the side.

Those demons were charging forward, trying to encircle both the fortress and the airship.

In addition, a superior demon gathered all its energy into its mouth before shooting a massive beam toward the airship.

The airship deployed a massive rune that blocked the beam and continued shooting the demons.

The intense clash lasted for a while before the airship had to retreat due to the overwhelming numbers.

”The ship is gone…” The airship felt like a false hope for the soldiers. However, there was no way a single airship could handle so many demons at once.

However, the commander couldnʼt help but smile. ”Did you see that, my brothers? So many demons died because of that airship. Grand Duke Ardagan lent it to us to keep our family safe. It might not be able to destroy the enemy at once, but look at how many demons died in the process.

”It might not be once, it might not be twice. But after multiple attempts, the airship might be able to annihilate all these demons.

”Thatʼs why itʼs up to us. We have to buy time for the airship to launch the second assault. We have to give them time.

”We will do whatever it takes to win this war.”

In the deepest part of their hearts, they already knew that it was impossible for a single airship to destroy all these demons.

But they had indeed seen the damage that a single airship could cause. And Noel had lent multiple airships.

Their roles were quite clear. As long as they could buy enough time, their families back home might survive.

Most of them became determined. ”Kill!”

The demons reached the fortress as the first clash began.

The fortress didnʼt last long, nor did the people. Yet, the hope was still there.

The airship didnʼt just come to kill some demons. They came to scout the area, informing the situation.

”We have been attacked by two massive armies. The first one is hitting us from the south. The second one is hitting us from the west, and this army has split into three smaller groups. According to our estimate, the demons are in the millions.”

The protectors couldnʼt help but furrow their eyebrows.

Prince Ramuer frowned and asked the protectors. ”The south… Are they planning to enter us or use us as a passage to hit the Zaecuria Kingdom from behind?”

”I believe both.” Hulbertʼs expression turned solemn.

Masa suddenly stepped forward. ”Your Highness. With your permission, I would like to go to Rean City.”

”!!!” Hulbert recognized his intention. ”Masa. You…”

”I have told you before, Hulbert. Now that all hope is lost for me, I wish to die honorably as a warrior. But before I die, I want to drag the demons down with me.”

The people fell silent. Suddenly, one by one, the people started to step forth.

”Iʼm willing to go with Masa and kill the demons.”

”Iʼm willing to die for the Atracaeca Kingdom.”

Prince Ramuerʼs expression turned solemn. Hulbert, on the other hand, explained, ”We have to split our forces into three. We will have no choice but to ask the Demon Banner Army to handle one group at the furthest north. The rest will be taken care of by us. We might have lost our grand protector, but we have to maintain our dignity even if it means our death.”
