System vs Rebirth

Chapter 1558: Welcome Home

”Are you sure about this? Let me see… I donʼt think thereʼs anyone who can become a spirit transcendence anymore. If youʼre going to do this, you will have to go alone…” Noel frowned, looking at Laufey.

Laufey nodded. ”I have made up my mind. I know that I have rejected your grace once, but I think this is the perfect time to break away from my past.”

Noel fell silent. He knew Laufey was talking about the verdict. It might be the reason he finally wanted to step forward.

”My lord. I know this is a weird request, but please allow me to have the ability to finally take off this mask.” Laufeyʼs eyes were solemn as he was determined to succeed.

Laufey wanted to reach the next level because Dimitri and Oscar were already at that level. He, too, wished to step into that realm not only so that the three brothers could reunite but also for the sake of this war.

Noel couldnʼt say much since it would end up tarnishing his resolve.

”Although Iʼm ashamed to admit it, the Supreme Devil Organization has developed a unique way to bypass and control the demons. By utilizing that technique, I will be able to traverse the demon territory safer.”

Noel looked down, falling into a deep thought. He penned a letter. ”Go to the Beast Kingdom to deliver this letter. Because the enemy is preparing for a war, it is best for you to go to the northeast.

”There are a lot of ancient demons over there. If you get help from the Beast Kingdom, it would be even better. At least try to get the information about the location of the high-level demons.

”Besides, the Sky Demon Kingʼs existence has been confirmed, so there is no need for the Beast Kingdom to search for him anymore. This letter will tell them all the information and ask them to prepare for the upcoming war.

”This is all I can do for you, Uncle.”

”Thank you.” Laufey politely nodded while receiving the letter. Since Noel had gone this far, it would be rude not to accept his help.

”Be careful out there, Uncle. I know the time is tight, but you only have one life.”

Laufey smiled. ”You gave me my life back when you removed the demon inside me. Iʼm not going to throw it away.”

Noel could only smile, even though he was worried about him. Before Laufey left, he added one more thing. ”I also… wish to finally have the honor, the right, the ability, the pride… to finally face my nephew as an uncle.”

”!!!” Noel widened his eyes. Laufey had been stubborn all this time, thinking he had no right as his uncle because he had tried to kill him, even though they all knew it was just a scheme.

But Noel couldnʼt persuade him. That was why hearing those words from his mouth put a smile on his face. ”I am looking forward to hearing it, Uncle.”

…

The older generation of the Ardagan family had gradually grown apart. Charlotte and a few other pillars had their own successors to replace them.

And it looked like it was Dimitriʼs turn to find that successor.

Instead of Noel, Dimitri actually visited his father first. In the end, the reason he came to this family was Luke Ardaganʼs scheme. Noel was the reason for staying here.

But decades had passed. It was time to finally move on with their lives.

”I think Iʼm going to retire after this war.” Dimitri looked at Luke and Leysha with a solemn expression. Silvester and Raven, who accompanied them, were surprised. They had always thought that Dimitri would stay forever with the Ardagan family.

Leysha was probably the only one who expected this. In fact, she encouraged him to do it.

”I donʼt think Iʼm the right person for you to tell that, Dimitri.” Luke shook his head calmly, reminding him that Noel was his current master.

”I wish to settle the old debt.” Dimitri lowered his head. ”Without all of you, I wonʼt be here. I would have become a person who knew nothing but killed my targets.

”Now, I know life is not just about that. After this war, Iʼm planning to retire and live with the love of my life, whom I have neglected for so many years.

”You donʼt have to worry. I believe there is a person who can replace me immediately. She is even stronger than me. Although she is still rough around the edges, she will become a better manager than me.”

They couldnʼt help but fall silent. On the one hand, it was sad to lose Dimitri. On the other hand, they were happy that Dimitri could finally find what he wanted to do.

”Please rise, Dimitri. We should be the ones apologizing and thanking you for your service.” It was Lukeʼs turn to lower his head this time. ”Thank you.”

Dimitri smiled. ”There is another reason for my visit. I am not sure if you already know about it or not, but Master has cleared up both of your names. Although there are still some suspicions, as long as we are able to win this war, no one will question you anymore.

”Master would definitely love to live with his parents again instead of letting them live in this forsaken cave.”

”!!!” Leysha was startled. Her reaction alone was enough to tell him that they hadnʼt heard the result of the grand hearing. ”Noel did what?”

She covered her mouth, tears starting to swell up.

”You didnʼt hear it incorrectly, Madam.”

”He…” Leysha couldnʼt contain her tears. It had been hard for Noel because he had been thrown out there without any information. She never thought that there would come a day when she could live again with Noel in the open, not meeting him in secret anymore.

Dimitri stood up. Even though Lukeʼs face remained calm, the fact he didnʼt say anything showed how shocked he was. He bore this responsibility alone because he was the one who made this plan.

However, there was still something he had prepared beforehand. ”Wait a minute. We are in the clear, but how about Laufey?”

”You donʼt have to worry about him anymore. He might not get a medal, but no one will question him even if he takes off his mask now.” Dimitri smiled.

Leysha and Luke exchanged looks. Leysha burst into tears as Luke felt relieved while stroking her back.

Welcome Home.
