Chapter 1586: New Grand Protector

”Why do you call me here, Hulbert? I have to go right now to save my father.” Prince Ramuer narrowed his eyes, demanding an explanation. ”Are you trying to kill my father?”

”All the farce has finished, Your Highness.” Hulbert shook his head helplessly.

”Farce? So, my father is alright?” The second prince frowned, wondering if this was a test from his father.

However, Hulbertʼs sad face remained the same, which was the answer to his question.

The second prince grabbed Hulbertʼs shirt and glared at him. ”Hulbert. Tell me. My father is fine, right?”

Hulbert maintained his silence for a bit longer as the second princeʼs hands started shaking as if he couldnʼt believe what had actually happened.

”The Grand Protector died in the assassination. However, he left behind a clue to the culprit.”

”!!!” Ramuer was taken aback. ”Now that I think about it, during the assassination, why didnʼt a single one of you notice it? In that case, there must be a mole who led the assassin into my fatherʼs chamber. Donʼt tell me… Samuel?”

Hulbert nodded painfully.

”That beast! No matter how scheming you are, you donʼt treat your father like that! Does he not remember every time Father takes care of his asses?” Ramuer gritted his teeth. The Grand Protector had taken care of Ramuerʼs problem as well, especially the matter related to the Ardagan family.

And the fact that his father used it as a way to teach him what was important, he simply couldnʼt understand why Samuel would do such a thing.

”Your Highness. Please calm down.”

”How can I calm down, Hulbert? That beast killed my father!”

”This is not the time yet.” Hulbert shook his head. ”Prince Samuel has been taken into custody. The court has decided to appoint you as temporary grand protector. This is a very delicate time. The Atracaeca Kingdom canʼt afford to have no leader.”

”Even if Iʼm aiming for that seat, I still donʼt have enough qualifications to take that seat.”

”No one does, Your Highness. Currently, no one is qualified to take that seat. However, you have the highest priority in this scenario. The loss of the Grand Protector will throw the entire kingdom into chaos. However, if the demons come, they will definitely come to the Atracaeaca Kingdom first.

”Our kingdom has been weakened because of this matter, so the great protectors have agreed to unite under one banner for this period.”

”...” Ramuer thought he would be happy to get the throne, yet when it was handed to him, he felt empty.

He definitely wanted that throne, but he wanted it because he was qualified for it. He didnʼt want it to be handed over to him so easily.

It might be because of the ingrained belief where strength reigned supreme that the throne made him feel empty.

Ramuer bit his lips. Even though he didnʼt like it, Hulbert definitely said the correct thing. The kingdom couldnʼt afford to be leaderless during this period.

Although it was unfair to everyone else, they had to unite. No one could govern a ruined kingdom.

The demons would definitely like to use the Atracaeca Kingdom as an example. Countless people in this kingdom would be massacred by the demons.

That was why he had to take it.

Ramuer bit his lip before nodding his head. ”I understand. I will step down once the war is over and compete with everyone else properly for that seat after that.”

Hulbert realized that Ramuer had changed. If it were in the past, Ramuer would try everything he could to ensure that he would get that seat. But it looked like getting beaten by Noel Ardagan had allowed him to get the heart of Atracaeca.

Although his skills and strength werenʼt qualified yet, his bearing was that of a protector.

Hulbert nodded. ”In that case, please follow me.”

”Before that, do we have any information about the other kingdoms? Have they known about it? Letting them know about this doesnʼt sound good. However, if we donʼt inform them, another king might suffer the attack as well.”

Hulbert nodded. ”Before this, the protectors had agreed about two things. First, we will stick with the story about the assassination and claim that the grand protector is recuperating.

”This will be enough to send a message to other kingdoms that their sovereign is in danger of assassination.

”If necessary, we are thinking about asking for the Muivell Kingdomʼs support. Although no one wants to admit it, the Muivell Kingdom has become the strongest kingdom. The Ardagan family aside, they have Duke Lorelei, Marshal Conrad, and Commander Oscar.

”Without the Ardagan family, they have the same number of spirit transcendences as the other two countries. And with the Ardagan family protecting the country, they should be fine to send one spirit transcendence as support.

”The only problem is who they will send.”

Ramuer thought for a moment. ”Why not ask the Ardagan family instead?”

”It is quite hard. First of all, the Grand Protector was the only one who had a good relationship with the Ardagan family. In addition, if we asked the Ardagan family, they would have less force to take the brunt of the demon invasion.

”Right now, the most flexible power is the Ardagan family. They have a large number of spirit transcendence rank experts, which allows them to send these spirit transcendences wherever they want in this war. We need that flexibility to fight, not only for this kingdom but also for other kingdoms.

”After all, if one kingdom collapses, the balance of the war will tip greatly.”

”Fair enough.” Ramuer raised one finger. ”Why not ask the Zaecuria Kingdom or the Greenwood Kingdom?”

”Your incident made the relationship with the Greenwood Kingdom a little sour. Besides, one of their spirit transcendences was Raincart Ezenholm, who stopped the Supreme Devil Organization as soon as they entered the Greenwood Kingdom from our kingdom.

”As for the Zaecuria Kingdom, their way of fighting is a bit different from ours. The reason we are able to stay this way is that we live in the desert while they live with the sea. At the same time, the Muivell Kingdom was not strong enough to invade us.”

”I see. It looks like we have to decide our next step in the court first.” Ramuer nodded. ”However, we all want the same thing. Itʼs for the survival of this kingdom. Thatʼs why we shall unite in order to survive.”

”Yes, Your Highness.”
