Chapter 1556: Brothers

”With this, you donʼt have to worry about your identity anymore.” Noel gave the document that proved him to be not guilty.

”This…” Laufey couldnʼt believe what he was seeing. ”My lord…”

”There is no one here, Uncle.” Noel waved his hand, telling him to get more comfortable. ”I know that not everything is true, but it doesnʼt change the fact that you have sacrificed yourself for the Ardagan family.

”It is fortunate that we got this kind of chance. Thanks to it, I could clear your name. Unfortunately, the medal couldnʼt be given.”

Laufeyʼs voice cracked. He had killed so many people to become a demon saint. More importantly, he had harmed his own nephew. ”I… I… have done…”

”Please donʼt worry about it anymore, Uncle. It must have been hard for you.” Noel smiled.

For the last few days, the hearing covered all important matters, from the Ardagan family to the Tower Association.

This grand hearing covered everything related to the demons and the Supreme Devil Organization. It was a justification of the Arbiters for crushing the Tower Association in the name of cleansing this kingdom.

The people would later remember this incident as the Great Purge, crushing the demons within the kingdom.

It was because of this incident that the Muivell Kingdom could get back on its feet without worrying about the manipulation of the demons anymore. And people couldnʼt use the Supreme Devil Organization as an excuse anymore.

The one leading this purge, Evan Lorelei, would be remembered for centuries for his contribution. The Ardagan family would be known as the family that had sacrificed themselves for the country.

Of course, this purge caused instability in the kingdom. Normally, other kingdoms would use this opportunity to crush the Muivell Kingdom and get everything they could from the kingdom.

But as long as Noel was there, no one could do anything.

Although Wendy called it compensation to the Ardagan family, it was actually an agreement.

Wendy did most of the work to clean the Ardagan familyʼs name. If they could win against the demon kings, Noel believed his parents could return to the family without the need to hide themselves anymore.

In exchange, Noel would do his best to quell the great unrest. The nobles had been trying to do a few things, including forcing Noel to take the throne for himself.

But Noel simply ignored or crushed them.

He also kept an eye on other kingdoms, giving a clear message that if they touched the Muivell Kingdom during this period, he would make a move against them.

It was indeed a win-win situation. Wendy managed to clean up the kingdom and let it stand again.

Noel smiled. ”Uncle. You donʼt have to wear this mask anymore.”

Laufey fell for a moment before touching the mask. ”I donʼt think I can take it off yet. Iʼm sorry, my lord. May I ask for a day off just for today?”

Noel chuckled. ”Sure. Anything you want.”

Laufey lowered his head. He couldnʼt say anything because he would know that he was crying.

The reason he was going on a day off was to visit one person. After learning about the way his name was cleared, one person stood out the most.

…

Demon Banner Army.

Oscar couldnʼt help but stop writing before raising his head. Milfa raised her stance. ”Who?”

”Itʼs someone you are familiar with.” Oscar waved his hand. The masked man entered the room without making any sound. Because he was still wearing the mask, Oscar said, ”You donʼt have to wear that mask anymore, you know?”

Laufey shook his head. In his hand, there was a bottle of wine. He placed it on the table before saying, ”I canʼt take it off yet. Thank you, Brother, Sister-in-law.”

After saying his piece, Laufey disappeared from the room.

”What? Sister-in-law…” Milfa took a step back. ”He…”

”Hahahaha. He teased you and ran away. But itʼs not like heʼs wrong. Tell me, should I expect a child soon? A son? A daughter? Uncle Oscar… does sound quite nice.” Oscar grinned.

”Not yet!” Milfa screamed.

”Hahaha. Not yet, eh?” Oscar was planning to tease her again, but one word stuck in his mind. ”Yet, huh?”

The second ʼyetʼ was not for Milfa, but for Laufey. He couldnʼt help but smile. Even though it wasnʼt time yet, he was expecting the day Laufey could take off his mask.

His eyes shifted to the wine bottle on his table. It was the wine bottle he, Laufey, and Dimitri used to drink together.

”I guess I have to finish my work early so that I can savor this drink.”

…

Laufey returned to the Ardagan family as quickly as possible. He was a bit exhausted because he had used his full power, but he felt relieved that he could meet Oscar again without the need to worry about his identity anymore.

He felt grateful to Noel, who granted him this chance.

When he was about to return to the mansion, a bottle suddenly flew toward him.

”!!!” Laufey widened his eyes and caught the bottle. He lowered his gaze and saw Dimitri holding another bottle. It was the same wine as the one he gave Oscar.

”Took you long enough. Usual time.”

Laufey wanted to say something, but Dimitri just waved his hand and disappeared without looking back.

”...” Laufey smiled helplessly. Dimitri seemed to have seen him leaving earlier with the bottle, so he probably had realized what he planned to do.

It was a habit that couldnʼt be forgotten.

At 8 PM, they would gather at the same tavern to drink together.

Laufey, Dimitri, and Oscar were doing the exact same thing, even though they were alone, accompanied by a single bottle.

They looked at the bottles, thinking about the same thing. The three of them were brothers.

All three of them grabbed the bottles at the same time and drank everything in one go.

Even though they couldnʼt drink at the same table like they used to, they still could drink together.
