Chapter 1584: Two Princes

”What happened to my father?” The two princes entered, saying the same thing. Unlike the second prince, the first prince had a big body. It might be because he often trained outside that his skin was more tanned than the second prince’s.

On the other hand, the second prince looked more refined. His spiritual energy was greater.

The first prince looked at his brother and sneered, ”Why would you, the unfilial son who tried to destroy the kingdom, be here?”

”Why would I not be here? Everything has been solved, and Father has also restored my rights.” The second prince snorted.

”Your Highness.” Hulbert suddenly came to them and bowed politely.

”Hulbert? What’s going on?” The first prince asked, his expression turning serious.

”Your Highness, please calm down with what I’m going to say.” Hulbert looked down. He paused for a moment and sounded very troubled. ”There was an assassination attempt last night. The Grand Protector was severely injured.”

”What? An assassination attempt? Where is the assassin? We have to assemble our people to capture the assassin.” The first prince showed his anger.

On the other hand, the second prince showed worry. ”Is Father alright? How is his condition?”

”It’s not very optimistic.” Hulbert shook his head. ”We are doing everything we can to preserve his life. However, we are lucky that Great Protector Hans had an herb that could save the Grand Protector’s life.

”The Grand Protector had asked us two things. First, during his absence, the Great Protectors will assume a collective command of the country and remain passive. Secondly, he hoped that the two princes wouldn’t have any conflicts for the time being.”

”What? Are you trying to seize power, Hulbert?” The first prince raised his voice.

”Is it because of the demons? The time is very delicate, and Father’s health is very important.” The second prince contemplated. ”Do you need me to do anything, Hulbert? I might not have much, but Father’s life is very important right now. If he is harmed, we won’t have anyone who can protect this kingdom.”

Hulbert received his answer. ”You don’t have to worry, Your Highness. Protector Hans will arrive tonight. According to Protector Rein, with the help of the herb, the Grand Protector will be back in three days.”

”I understand.” The second prince nodded.

The first prince gritted his teeth and asked out loud, ”Have you sent out people to find the assassin? This is my father’s life we’re talking about. We can’t let this assassin go. If necessary, I will lead the group myself.”

Hulbert shook his head helplessly. ”I am useless. There are almost no traces of the assassins. Several protectors are doing their best to find any clues, but we can’t find them yet. However, when we reached there, we found the Grand Protector slightly weird. It was as if he noticed something wrong.

”Unfortunately, the Grand Protector had forbidden anyone from entering his chamber. So, if there was indeed a clue, it would be in his chamber.”

”...” The first prince fell silent. ”In that case, I will ask Father personally. I want to keep the dignity of the Atracaeca Kingdom, unlike a certain someone who tarnishes our reputation.”

The second prince frowned but didn’t say anything. It was a subtle acknowledgement of his past mistake, but at the same time, he planned to prove he was also a person who would fight for the country.

And the second prince believed that if his father had an idea about it, there must be a reason why he told them not to mess around.

Besides, the timing was too coincidental. They had a big threat from the outside, so losing their only spirit transcendence rank expert would mean a disaster for this country.

Rather than finding the assassin, he thought about what he should do to ensure the continuation of the kingdom.

Hulbert politely bowed. ”That’s all I can say right now, Your Highness. And to fulfill your father’s wish, I have to ask both of you to leave the court.”

”Are you trying to seize power, Hulbert?”

Hulbert shook his head and tilted his body while extending his hand as if showing the great protectors inside the room. They were protectors from both sides, so this would be enough to show that both sides had an agreement. There was only one way for both sides to work together. It was when their father ordered it directly.

It looked like their father was indeed in such a situation.

”I wonder if this is enough explanation, Your Highness? Right now, we can’t afford to make any mistakes.” Hulbert lowered his head. ”That’s why for the kingdom’s sake, please think about what’s best for this kingdom.”

Once he saw the two factions, the second prince simply nodded. ”I understand, Hulbert. I will take my leave. Although I’m not as charismatic as my father, if this kingdom needs me, I’m ready to take up my arms to go to the battlefield. And because there is a threat from the outside, a time like this is perfect for the demons to invade, so even though I’m going to leave, I hope that you can consider strengthening the border. This is not an order but a request for the kingdom.”

”Thank you, Your Highness. I will deliver your message during today’s meeting.”

The first prince gritted his teeth. It looked like he couldn’t get the protectors to mobilize people to arrest the assassin. He could only snort and walk away.

”...” Hulbert’s expression turned solemn after handling both of them. He turned around and noticed that a lot of people had their faces changed because of the two princes’ responses. ”It doesn’t seem necessary to proceed to the next phase. However, for the sake of fairness, we will still let the next phase continue.”

....

Once night came, a silhouette entered the Grand Protector’s chamber.

While looking at the Grand Protector, who was lying so weak on the bed, he said, ”Your time has ended, Father. It’s time for you to give me your position.”
