The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The opportunity to leave the palace doesn’t come often. Since they’re out now, they must make the most of it and have some fun. Inside the palace, they’ve been eating boiled vegetables so much that they’re nearly flavorless, so now they’re outside, they must seize the chance to eat some good food.

Xiao Yuan also said to the servants attending them: ”You can leave now.”

When only Xiao Yuan and Chief Bai were left in the room, Chief Bai asked: ”Where is the Divine Doctor?”

Anning entered with a smile from the other side, greeted Chief Bai: ”Chief Bai, your esteemed presence shines here, I failed to welcome you from afar, please forgive me.”

Chief Bai saw a flash of emotion in Anning’s eyes.

Then he picked up a teacup to drink tea, using it to hide the glimmer of tears in his eyes.

After drinking half a cup of tea, he returned to his usual calm demeanor: ”In the past two days, the Noble Consort has recovered greatly. Yesterday, she had a bowl of bird’s nest porridge and ate quite a bit of food. Not only has her complexion improved, but she can also get out of bed and walk a few steps. Your Majesty is overjoyed and specially ordered me to deliver a reward to the Divine Doctor.”

Anning and Xiao Yuan kneeled and kowtowed: ”Thank you, Your Majesty.”

Chief Bai reached out to help Xiao Yuan up, then said to Anning: ”Get up quickly, the floor is cold.”

Anning stood up and smiled at Chief Bai, which caused his tears to fall uncontrollably: ”Good child, good child, who would have thought I, Chief Bai, still have a trace of my bloodline here. Heaven has not been unkind to me.”

Anning was momentarily stunned, then sat down and puzzledly looked at Chief Bai: ”What do you mean by that? Are you saying I’m your child? But I am clearly a daughter of the Miao Family.”

When Anning mentioned the Miao Family, Chief Bai gritted his teeth with hatred: ”Don’t mention those dog thieves of the Miao Family! If it weren’t for them, your mother and I wouldn’t have fallen to this state...”

”What is this all about?”

Anning asked softly.

Chief Bai took several deep breaths before calming down, and then he started to tell Anning about the past events.

It turned out Chief Bai and Noble Princess Consort Chu were husband and wife.

They grew up together, and at the age of ten, they got engaged, married at eighteen, and were always deeply in love, expecting to accompany each other for life. However, during the Lantern Festival that year, Chief Bai took Noble Princess Consort Chu to see the lanterns, encountering Mr. Miao, who was amazed by Noble Princess Consort Chu’s beauty, thinking of her day and night afterwards.

Later, Mr. Miao plotted to snatch Noble Princess Consort Chu away, and harmed Chief Bai and his family.

With a great fortune, Chief Bai crawled out of the cemetery, later meeting kind-hearted people who saved him.

He spent over a month recovering, and once healed, he went looking for Noble Princess Consort Chu, but was informed she had become a concubine of the Miao Mansion.

Chief Bai wanted to see Noble Princess Consort Chu one more time but could not.

He longed for Noble Princess Consort Chu and hated Mr. Miao for murdering his entire family.

Chief Bai wanted revenge, but he was powerless, while Mr. Miao had great influence locally, leaving Chief Bai feeling helpless against the Miao Family. Resolute, Chief Bai made a drastic decision, moved to the Capital with others, and then was castrated to enter the palace.

He loved Noble Princess Consort Chu deeply, thinking without her he couldn’t marry anyone else, so he might as well serve as an eunuch in the palace. If he gained power as Chief Eunuch, he hoped to avenge his family or maybe even save Noble Princess Consort Chu during his lifetime.

Chief Bai did not expect Noble Princess Consort Chu’s hatred to be as intense as his.

Noble Princess Consort Chu endured in the Miao Family’s back courtyard, waiting for an opportunity to escape. Unexpectedly, two months passed without opportunities to flee, and she was discovered pregnant.

Noble Princess Consort Chu initially considered aborting the child, but Mr. Miao, captivated by her, visited daily, leaving her no chance. As pregnancy advanced, she dared not abort. Not until Anning was born did Noble Princess Consort Chu seize her chance.

She was smart, colluding with an old courtesan in the back courtyard and bribing people to feign death, thereby escaping the Miao Mansion.

Noble Princess Consort Chu believed there were many nobles in the Capital, thinking she could find someone of high status with her beauty. She planned to influence them to achieve the ultimate goal of avenging Chief Bai’s family.

Unexpectedly, on her way, she saved Emperor Jianyuan, who was privately traveling in disguise and brought her into the palace.

Once in the palace, Noble Princess Consort Chu made extraordinary efforts to win favor, eventually discovering Chief Bai was also in the palace.

The couple reunited, yet everything had changed.

Nonetheless, the two supported each other afterwards, with Chief Bai gaining Emperor Jianyuan’s trust, while Noble Princess Consort Chu captured Emperor Jianyuan’s heart, becoming the most favored concubine in the harem.

Noble Princess Consort Chu always assumed her child was Miao’s blood, so she did not interfere.

After she and Chief Bai ascended to high positions and planned revenge, events stalled when Noble Princess Consort Chu fell victim to poisoning.

Her worsening health occupied Chief Bai, momentarily setting revenge aside.

The couple never anticipated one day they’d have their own flesh and blood child to meet.

When Chief Bai secretly visited Noble Princess Consort Chu, she informed him that Anning was his biological daughter, causing him to secretly cry several times.

Chief Bai thought he’d never have his biological child in this lifetime, but was pleasantly surprised Heaven had ultimately spared him a close kin linked by blood.

Chief Bai held Anning’s hand, crying uncontrollably: ”Good child, good child, seeing you, I can die without regret.”

Anning’s eyes reddened, tears flowing continuously: ”I’ve never seen my real mother since childhood, constantly humiliated and tormented in the Miao Family’s back courtyard. To survive, I pretended ignorance, but never expected... that you two are my real father and mother. Father, no wonder I never felt any kinship with those people named Miao, in fact, they made me uncomfortable. He’s not my real father, naturally I don’t like him...”

Chief Bai, hearing Anning’s words, considered how the child struggled alone to survive from such a young age, his heart ached sorrowfully: ”Good child, now that we’ve met, your father and mother will support you, no one will dare to bully you anymore. From now on, do whatever you wish without concern, if anyone dares offend you, your father will deal with them.”

”Alright.”

Anning nodded firmly: ”With Father around, I’m naturally unafraid.”
