The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning led the researchers and worked on separating the system from Yi Qihang for more than two years before finally succeeding.

Next came the phase of researching the system data.

The deeper the research went, the more Anning and her team got absorbed in it.

Through their study of the system, they made significant advancements in artificial intelligence technology.

And they also developed some ideas regarding holographic images.

Su Mingyu grew a bit impatient after two years of high school, and Anning no longer suppressed her. During her sophomore year, she directly applied to college, finishing the four-year curriculum in one year, and then progressed to master’s and Ph.D. exams.

This child had an exceptionally high IQ, and once Anning stopped suppressing her, she showcased extraordinary talents.

Quickly, she was specially recruited into the research group.

After joining the team, Su Mingyu began her research on holographic technology, and within a little over a year, she managed to achieve significant outcomes.

Following that, she immersed herself in the field of artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, Su Mingzhu opted to apply to film school during her college entrance examination.

She enjoyed being part of the scene, playing different roles, and experiencing diverse lives in drama.

Su Mingzhu registered for the film school’s professional course exams. With her beauty, numerous talents, and genuine passion for acting, she performed excellently in her professional course exams. When her college entrance exam scores came out, although not as remarkably close to perfect as Su Mingyu’s, with a score of just two points shy of the maximum, her score was indeed high; she scored over six hundred and seventy.

Such a score could secure her a place in top-ranking universities nationwide.

Yet she deliberately chose to enroll in film school using her exceptional academic performance.

During her freshman and sophomore years, Su Mingzhu diligently focused on her studies. By junior year, she began accepting acting roles.

Of course, Anning and Xiao Yuan wouldn’t let Su Mingzhu start miserably as an extra or take up a minor, indistinct role as other newcomers might. The first role she accepted in her junior year was the third female lead in a major period drama.

With her superb acting skills, beauty, and the endearing character, once the drama aired, Su Mingzhu rapidly gained fame.

Her second film was the first-ever holographic movie, where she played the second female lead—a character also deeply touching and endearing. Besides, being the world’s first holographic movie, its release demonstrated the nation’s technological prowess leading the globe, an event of national pride. Regardless of the movie’s quality, many watched it to support and cheer for holographic technology.

Of course, the film was indeed well-made. Xiao Yuan wrote it, employing a renowned director from the industry, with skilled actors complementing the superb costumes and visual effects. Once it premiered, it became a sensation not just domestically but abroad as well.

Because of this movie, Su Mingzhu received widespread acclaim, swiftly advancing beyond mid-tier to become a top-tier celebrity.

Later, she took on endorsements of high prestige and participated in various variety shows, maintaining her presence and striving for more fans.

Su Mingzhu’s advertisements and endorsements were exceedingly notable. Xiao Yuan’s business empire had grown expansively over the years, reaching into finance, electronics, real estate, new energy sectors, e-commerce, light industry, food, clothing, and various other fields. While some debated who the actual wealthiest individuals were, many knew that though Xiao Yuan stayed under the radar, his wealth surpassed those publicly recognized as the richest, solidifying him as the true tycoon.

Just the advertising from their family’s businesses was ample for Su Mingzhu’s filming, not to mention Xiao Yuan’s connections with numerous millionaires, like Boss Ma. They were aware that Su Mingzhu was indeed Xiao Yuan’s daughter, with Boss Ma and the others considering themselves as uncles, readily offering their noteworthy products for Su Mingzhu to endorse.

Thus, insiders perceived Su Mingzhu’s emergence as formidable.

Without making much ado, she climbed to the entertainment industry’s peak in just two years, consistently receiving high-profile endorsements, abundant TV, film, and variety show projects—remarkable enough for others to speculate that some major figure must be backing her, or she must have aligned with some influential patron.

Of course, these were mere guesses without any evidence.

This day, finally finding Su Mingyu at rest and Su Mingzhu just back from filming a variety show, the family gathered.

As Old Madam aged, she kept up with modern trends enthusiastically. Ever since Su Mingzhu entered the entertainment world, Old Madam learned to be a fan, often dressing up to support her great-granddaughter, joining Mingzhu’s fan support groups, mimicking young girls supporting Su Mingzhu. Seeing Old Madam enjoying these activities, Su Mingzhu didn’t dissuade her; she merely advised her grandmother not to overexert herself and to have the family driver or nanny accompany her to avoid any mishaps.

Even while Old Madam played along, she was cautious, ensuring transportation and protection each time she went out, becoming quite renowned among Mingzhu’s fans for the luxurious appearances.

Old Madam, upon seeing Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu return, delighted as if she were a child.

”Finally home, take some proper rest and have your dad whip up something delicious for you.”

Anning poured water for the kids: ”How long will you be at home this time?”

Su Mingyu pondered: ”Three days.”

”A week.”

Su Mingzhu had been exhausting herself over the past couple of years, finally finding some time, she wanted to relax.

Old Madam hearing this said: ”Make sure to properly recuperate these days at home.”

She took Su Mingzhu aside: ”Mingzhu, there are indeed many handsome fellows in your circle; why not find someone suitable to date? We’re not saying get married immediately, but at your age, you should start considering relationships.”

Then, casting her gaze at Su Mingyu: ”Mingyu, you should pay more attention too. You get wrapped up in research for days, and if you don’t hasten, all the good guys will be taken.”

She brought up Anning: ”Just look at your mom, she was with your dad since childhood, married right after college, and see how well their life is now.”

Su Mingzhu rubbed her forehead: ”Grandma, I understand. If I see someone appropriate, I’ll definitely date.”

Su Mingyu earnestly nodded: ”Biologically speaking, we are indeed at the optimal age for marriage and childbirth. It seems to be time for seeking a partner.”

Uh?

Su Mingzhu curiously glanced at Su Mingyu, wondering whether she was merely cajoling Old Madam or truly serious.

In any case, she couldn’t figure out Su Mingyu.

Xiao Yuan emerged from the kitchen with a dish: ”Hurry and wash up for dinner.”

Cheering, Su Mingzhu promptly sat at the dining table ready to eat.

What she missed most during her days outside was her dad’s delightful cooking.

Between bites, she remarked: ”If people knew our richest man cooked dinner at home every day, they’d be astounded.”

”Dad’s cooking is the best.”

Su Mingyu sincerely praised.

The daughters spent three days at home living leisurely, and after three days, Su Mingyu refreshed herself and went back to work.

On her first day back at the research institute, she didn’t dive into research immediately but sought a talk with the institute leader.

”Director, my family is pushing for marriage. I’d like you to assist me in meeting several gentlemen. I hope one of them can become my boyfriend.”

The leader was taken aback.

The female comrades at the research institute were all career-driven, many in their thirties still unmarried. Yet Su Mingyu was in her early twenties already eager to find a boyfriend.

Of course, the leader wouldn’t refuse her.

Su Mingyu was a prized researcher at the institute. As long as she continued her work, the higher-ups would oblige any reasonable requests, and her request was quite ordinary—simply an adult wanting a relationship. Surely, in such a vast country, there exist suitable individuals for her.

Soon enough, the leader reported upward, and the efficiency was notably high. The following day, the leader summoned Su Mingyu, and in the office stood a variety of gentlemen.

There were tall, robust, rugged types, refined, handsome warmth guys, lively, cheerful sunshine boys, steady, reliable uncle types, as well as versatile sweet or spicy young men—any imaginable type was present for selection.

Su Mingyu surveyed the room, recognizing one familiar face: Tang Feiyu, with whom she had a good rapport in middle school.

Perhaps because she knew Tang Feiyu, coupled with his constant care towards her during school days, although he hadn’t confessed, he consistently looked after Su Mingyu, leaving her with good impressions.

Su Mingyu thought since she didn’t know the others, choosing from familiar faces is better; she pointed at Tang Feiyu: ”Director, let it be him.”

The visible expressions of regret and disappointment appeared on the other gentlemen’s faces, while Tang Feiyu grinned broadly.
