The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning had just finished her lunch when a maid joyfully came in: ”Grandma, Master is back.”

Anning’s face lit up with joy: ”Where is Master now?”

”Master went to pay respects to Old Madam; he should be coming to see Grandma soon.”

The maid had a smile on her face.

Anning also smiled and said: ”Amitabha, he’s finally back. While Master was away, I was anxious every day, now I can finally be at ease.”

Just as she was speaking, she saw a young man in a blue robe stride in steadily.

The young man’s steps were steady, but his eyes revealed a sense of urgency.

The maid hurried over to greet him, but the young man waved his hand: ”I have matters to discuss with Granny, you all can leave now.”

A few maids filed out, and only then did the young man walk over to Anning and tightly grasp her hand: ”It’s me.”

Anning had already figured out who it was; she looked up and smiled: ”When did you arrive?”

”On the way.”

The one who returned was Wei Yuan, also known as Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan sat down: ”The original body fell off the horse on the way for some unknown reason and was gone, then it switched to me. I received the original body’s memories and hurried back.”

”How are you now? Do you have any injuries?”

Anning reached up to check Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan quickly waved his hand: ”I’m fine. What about your illness? Has it improved?”

Anning laughed: ”My illness is just an act, so I wouldn’t have to see those two unlucky children. Also, it’s to improve my cultivation.”

Only then did Xiao Yuan breathe a sigh of relief: ”It’s good that you’re not sick.”

The two sat down again, Anning ordered tea to be served and told the maid to hurry and prepare some food for Xiao Yuan in the kitchen.

After Xiao Yuan washed up and ate, the two finally sat down to speak quietly.

Anning told Xiao Yuan about the plot of this world, and after listening, Xiao Yuan frowned: ”If that’s the case, I’ll find a way to prevent Xin Lan from entering the residence.”

Anning waved her hand: ”Let her come. If she doesn’t come, how can I seek revenge? I want her to come and suffer the same torment I did in my past life.”

Then, Anning looked at Xiao Yuan with a smile that was not quite a smile: ”You’re really something, luring a good maiden who adored you so much that she married an old man just to see you.”

She wasn’t satisfied with just speaking; she reached out and pulled Xiao Yuan’s fair cheeks to the sides: ”Look at you, those fine features really attract people.”

Xiao Yuan truly suffered from undeserved misfortune.

He was extremely helpless and could only let Anning have her way. Once Anning was done pulling, Xiao Yuan managed to free his face.

Anning warned Xiao Yuan: ”I’ve told you, this time I’ll do as I please. If I hurt someone or cripple anyone, don’t blame me.”

Xiao Yuan hurriedly embraced Anning: ”What kind of words are those? In my heart, you are more important than anyone. The entire Wei Residence is at your disposal; I’ll take care of anything that arises.”

As they were speaking, Anning heard shouting from outside: ”I want to see my father, you damn servant, get out of my way.”

Anning immediately wore a cold expression.

”Shouting like that, this is your decorum.”

Xiao Yuan stood up and opened the door. After the door opened, he looked at Wei Xing and Wei Susu standing outside, with a stern face reprimanded them: ”Shouting like this outside your mother’s room, where is your filial piety? You know your mother is sick, yet you still make noise. Who taught you these manners?”

With just a few words, Wei Xing and Wei Susu’s faces turned red, looking extremely embarrassed: ”Father...”

Xiao Yuan said coldly: ”Didn’t you see your mother? Hurry up and pay your respects.”

The two children reluctantly came over to pay respects to Anning.

Anning waved her hand: ”I caught a cold, better keep your distance, so you don’t catch it.”

”Yes.”

Wei Xing was calmer than Wei Susu; despite being angry, he still followed the rules properly.

Anning smiled: ”I’m sick now, no need for you to come over and pay respects. Until I recover, we need to set the rules.”

She thought to herself that in her previous life she wanted to treat the children better, but those two didn’t appreciate it and often accused her of having bad intentions, telling outsiders she was a wicked stepmother, ruining her reputation completely. This time, she would fulfill their wish and be a truly sweet-faced but bitter-hearted wicked stepmother.

”You...”

Wei Susu clenched her fists, glaring at Anning with anger.

Anning smiled: ”Did you come over for something?”

Wei Xing angrily said, ”Did you and the Old Madam decide to hire a teacher and a nanny for us?”

”Yes.”

Anning nodded in acknowledgment.

”I knew you didn’t have good intentions.”

Wei Xing accused Anning, ”You’re probably thinking about how to make us suffer. Hmph, I won’t fall for it.”

Anning looked at Xiao Yuan, tears slowly falling from her eyes, ”Master, did you hear that? I just discussed hiring a teacher with the Old Madam, and immediately someone is gossiping to the child, saying I have bad intentions. How old is Xing’er? How could he come up with such thoughts on his own? Someone must be instigating him. Master, the child is the foundation of our family, and their education cannot be neglected. Even though I am a stepmother, I cannot watch someone lead my son astray. Moreover, they are the children of my biological sister, so I cannot ignore it.”

Xiao Yuan nodded, ”You are in charge of this matter.”

”What about the Old Madam?”

Anning asked a question.

”I will speak to the Old Madam and the Master about it.”

Xiao Yuan promised.

”Since you trust me, Master, once I’m well, I will properly educate Xing’er and Susu, rest assured.”

Anning spoke resolutely. After finishing, she seemed a bit unsteady on her feet, and Xiao Yuan quickly went over to support her, ”Just focus on recuperating, I’ll handle everything else.”

”Of course, I trust you, Master.”

Anning said, shedding two more tears.

Xiao Yuan, with a stern face, scolded Wei Xing, ”You ungrateful creature, your mother is planning everything for you, yet you upset her like this. Kneel and apologize to your mother immediately.”

”I won’t.”

Wei Xing, also crying, stubbornly wiped his tears and ran off.

Wei Susu quickly followed, ”Brother...”

The incident quickly reached the Old Madam.

The Old Madam came out of the Buddha Room and heard about the matter from Mrs. Hao. With a cold face, she said, ”It seems those servants are indeed unreliable, but this matter should be handled by Ningning, after all, she is a girl from the Miao Family.”

”The Old Madam’s considerations are correct.”

Mrs. Hao smiled, ”If Mrs. Miao has any dissatisfaction, she can only reprimand her own family, this does not concern the Old Madam or the Master.”

Initially, Anning planned to first create chaos within the Wei Family and then find an opportunity to separate from Wei Yuan.

But now that Xiao Yuan has come, she has to change her plan.

With Xiao Yuan around, she no longer remained frail. After just a few days, Anning claimed to have recovered.

Upon her recovery, the first thing she did was summon and remove all the servants attending to Wei Xing and Wei Susu, calling upon a human trafficker to sell them all off.

Wei Xing and Wei Susu caused a huge commotion over this.

During the selling of these servants, the two of them tried their best to stop it, saying they would not allow them to be sold. Wei Susu even cursed at Anning, ”You despicable woman, on what grounds do you sell my people? I knew you had no good intentions, dealing with my servants today and perhaps me and my brother next. I’m going to tell grandma to beat you to death.”

Wei Xing also stomped his feet and shouted, ”You can’t sell them, they’re all left to me by my mother. If you dare sell them...”

Xiao Yuan walked over with a stern face.

He effortlessly picked up Wei Xing with one hand, ”These are our Wei Family’s servants, your mother is the housekeeper of the Wei Family, why can’t she sell a few servants?”

He then looked at Wei Susu, ”I’ve been too lenient with you over the years, allowing you to be so disrespectful to your mother. It seems your manners truly need some learning. From today, you will endure for a time until we find a nanny to educate you.”

”I don’t want that.”

Wei Susu angrily said, ”Father, I am your biological daughter, how can you side with this scoundrel, you...”

Wei Susu repeatedly calling Anning a ’scoundrel’ made Xiao Yuan’s expression thoroughly unpleasant. He reached out and slapped her, causing her face to instantly swell.

Wei Susu, holding her face in disbelief, looked at Xiao Yuan, ”Father, you hit me, you actually hit me...”

”I’m disciplining you because you have no sense of propriety or shame.”

Xiao Yuan pointed at Anning and sternly said to Wei Susu, ”She is your mother, and she will be responsible for your education from now on. Insulting her is equivalent to insulting yourself. What benefit does it bring you to ruin your mother’s reputation? Truly well-mannered families will only think that someone who spends their days with a person lacking proper conduct and harboring malicious thoughts cannot have learned anything good. By mocking your mother, others will mock you behind your back, and bearing a bad reputation will not lead to a good future for you.”

He pulled Wei Xing and Wei Susu together, not showing any mercy in his forceful grip, causing the two children quite a bit of pain.

”You are my children, your mother married me, thus making you her children too. The four of us are one and the same, sharing fortunes and misfortunes alike. If one isn’t well, the other three also stand to gain nothing. Those who provoke discord between you and your mother harbor unspeakable motives. If they remain by your side, they’ll only teach you wrong, leading you to further mistakes if not addressed swiftly.”

He angrily continued, ”So, still haven’t kicked out these treacherous creatures who don’t know who their true master is? Why let them tarnish our Wei Family’s grounds any longer?”
