The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning stayed inside the palace for two days and only left after completely detoxifying the Noble Princess Consort Chu.

When she returned to the inn where she was staying, Xiao Yuan had just come back from outside.

Xiao Yuan had been looking for a house these past two days.

Houses in the Capital are not easy to find; if you want one close to the exam hall, a bit spacious, and well-built, it’s really a tough task without the help of local people.

Xiao Yuan sought the help of an official; on the first day, he looked at several houses but wasn’t satisfied. He initially thought it might take several days to find a suitable house, but on the second day, a message came from the official saying there was a particularly good house for him to check out.

This house is close to the Imperial City, not far from the exam hall. It appears to be in a bustling area but is situated in an alley, providing some tranquility in the midst of noise. The house is a three-section compound, and the West Cross Courtyard is quite substantial. There’s also a sizable garden at the back. Even if not speaking about the house’s construction, just the garden is beautifully built, with many exotic flowers planted inside.

Xiao Yuan was immediately impressed and was calculating whether he had enough money to buy it. When he asked the official, surprisingly, the house was priced like a cabbage.

For a house like this, in such a location, ordinarily, the price would be above ten thousand taels, and with the flowers in the garden, twenty thousand taels would not be expensive.

But the official said this house was only selling for two thousand taels.

Xiao Yuan immediately paid the money and quickly processed the house deed.

After handling everything, he went back to the inn, coincidentally at the same time Anning returned from the palace.

Xiao Yuan was quite happy, pulled Anning into the room, and showed her the house deed: ”We have a house in the Capital.”

Anning laughed: ”It was really cheap, right?”

”Mhm.”

Xiao Yuan responded and then asked: ”What’s going on?”

Anning whispered: ”The Noble Princess Consort Chu is my real mother.”

Xiao Yuan had some premonition and wasn’t too surprised upon hearing this.

Anning then asked Xiao Yuan: ”Can you guess who my real father is?”

Xiao Yuan blinked, looking puzzled.

Anning leaned over to Xiao Yuan’s ear and said: ”My real father is not Emperor Jianyuan, it’s Chief Bai.”

This time, Xiao Yuan was genuinely shocked.

Anning explained to Xiao Yuan: ”The house we bought is probably Chief Bai’s private residence. He likely knows I’m his daughter now, and with no excuse to send something over, he coincidentally noticed you buying a house and, while he couldn’t give it for free, sold you a house at a bargain price.”

”What exactly is going on?”

Xiao Yuan was really confused: ”Your mother was previously a concubine of the Miao Family, gave birth to you there, and then somehow managed to enter the palace as a favored concubine. Also, Chief Bai and your mother seem completely unrelated; how did he end up being your father?”

”I don’t know either.”

Anning shrugged: ”Who knows what happened back then.”

For now, as they couldn’t figure it out, Anning and Xiao Yuan didn’t think much about it.

They rested for a while, and after a meal, they went to take a look at their newly bought house.

Anning had originally planned to buy some furniture and other items to decorate the house a bit, but upon arrival, goodness, the place was fully furnished. The kitchen had pots and stoves, even rice, and seasonings were stocked, the beddings in the rooms were neatly folded, and the cabinets were filled with new beddings and coats. There were even plenty of new clothes, and the dressing table had a box full of various headpieces.

”This is practically move-in ready for us.”

Anning, quite pleased, laughed and discussed with Xiao Yuan: ”Let’s move here tomorrow.”

”Alright.”

Since they knew it was a gift from Anning’s real father, they felt assured and bold enough to settle in.

The couple stayed one more night at the inn, and the next day, they moved in with their servants.

Once they moved into the new house, they bought a few more servants, then they truly settled down.

Just as they finished tidying up, Chief Bai personally came to visit.

Chief Bai was a tall and slender man, seemingly gentle and quite handsome for someone in their thirties or forties. He wore the Python Robe of a chief, smiling as he steadily entered the door.

Xiao Yuan quickly stepped forward: ”Greetings, Chief Bai.”

Chief Bai sized up Xiao Yuan briefly, then nodded in satisfaction: ”Let’s talk inside.”

Xiao Yuan led Chief Bai into the house.

Chief Bai then told the young eunuchs who came along: ”Rascals, you have the day off, go out and have some fun.”

He casually tossed a pack of silver to those young eunuchs.

The young eunuchs joyfully took the silver, and a few of them dashed outside.
