The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

When Su Mingzhu was informed by the family driver after school that Anning and Xiao Yuan had returned, she was particularly happy.

She called the Gu family and then went straight home with Su Mingyu.

As for the things left at the Gu family, she didn’t need to worry about them.

She and Su Mingyu hadn’t just stayed at the Gu family for one or two days; over the years, Anning’s relations with the Gu family have been good, and the two children often went to play at the Gu house. If they played late, they directly stayed overnight. Hence, Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu have rooms at the Gu family, and many things remain there.

Upon returning home, Su Mingzhu changed her shoes at the door and shouted, ”Dad, Mom, it’s great to see you back.”

Su Mingyu’s cool little face also displayed a trace of a smile.

Anning poked her head out of the kitchen, ”You’re back, quickly put down your backpack and wash your hands, dinner is about to be served.”

Su Mingzhu put down her backpack and entered the kitchen. Seeing Anning was cooking personally, she instantly cheered, ”Mom, I absolutely adore you.”

Anning patted Su Mingzhu’s head, ”Alright, stop acting spoiled and help your sister with serving the dishes. Once your dad returns, we’ll start eating.”

Su Mingyu walked in unhurriedly and without any shyness began to grab a piece of rib to munch on.

Anning smiled at the corner of her mouth, ”Each of you is like a little hungry cat.”

”Where did Dad go?”

Su Mingzhu asked.

”He went to check on the company.” Anning deftly poured the soup, ”He should be returning now.”

No sooner had she spoken than Xiao Yuan entered through the door.

With the family reunited, they began eating.

During the meal, Su Mingyu asked, ”Where’s Great Grandma?”

”Your grandparents and great-grandmother are staying longer at Yangjiazhuang.”

Anning explained and then ladled a bowl of soup for Su Mingyu, ”Is your throat a bit uncomfortable? Drink more of the soup I’ve cooked, it’ll help.”

Warmth radiated from Su Mingyu’s eyes and brows as she accepted the soup and drank it with her head down.

After eating, Su Mingzhu snuggled up to Anning to chat.

”Mom, what’s the matter? Tell me everything properly.”

Anning had intended to take a bath, but she opted to accompany her child instead.

She poured a glass of water while Xiao Yuan brought over a fruit platter, and the four of them sat on the sofa to chat.

Though it was four people, it was really three talking while one read.

Su Mingyu was never interested in this, but she participated in family activities. She always had a book on hand that others found hard to understand, focusing on it in a corner. While she never missed a family gathering, asking her what was said or discussed would leave her clueless.

”So it was your Great Aunt and Xiao Mei’s grandfather who were involved before getting married...”

Anning carefully recounted the events to Su Mingzhu.

Indeed, it wasn’t too complicated.

Wang Shushu was pretty when young, renowned as a beauty in the region, while Xiao Qun was naturally handsome too. With them living nearby, they met at fairs, and one way or another, they got together.

Yet Xiao Qun’s family was poor; no matter how handsome, he couldn’t find a bride.

Times were different, and girls today have more freedom in choosing partners, but Wang Shushu back then had to listen to her parents. Wang family disapproved of the Xiao family’s reputation and high class, hence they resolutely refused.

Yang family was well-off then; Yang Lao Mao was diligent in youth, and with his father active as a brigade leader offering a good family condition within the village.

Yang Lao Mao and his father eyed Wang family’s sons, seeing Wang Shushu as beautiful and fertile, making for a radiant and proud daughter-in-law. They sought a match, which the Wang family favored, so both families quickly agreed.

Though Wang Shushu was unwilling, she married.

Not long after, Xiao Qun also wed.

Ordinarily, given moral standards, the two should avoid each other’s affairs, but these two lacked concern for morals and ethics. They would still clandestinely meet.

Their contact never ceased.

In recent years, Xiao family’s circumstance improved.

Xiao Qun had properties from Xiao Yuan producing rent, alongside accomplished children remitting money frequently, thus enjoying greater financial ease and generosity, often gifting things to Wang Shushu.

Yet Yang family’s situation worsened; Wang Shushu saw others rise while her home faced hardships worse than before, causing frequent tantrums and spurring Yang Dachou and Yang Fuyu to work.
