The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Mr. Geng started his business from scratch and considers himself to have some assets.

But today, all the wealthy people he met have more substantial family wealth than he does.

He wandered around the banquet hall with Xiao Xiu, unable to find anyone to talk to.

With no other option, he found a place to sit, thinking he’d wait for an opportunity to arise.

Xiao Xiu was also a bit tired, and after sitting down, she rubbed her ankle before quietly asking Mr. Geng, ”Who are all these people?”

Mr. Geng explained softly to Xiao Xiu, ”Do you know Tianhai Square?”

Xiao Xiu nodded, ”Yes, I’ve bought a lot of things there.”

”Tianhai Square belongs to Boss Ma, that’s him over there.”

Mr. Geng pointed out to Xiao Xiu, ”And as for Hongcheng Electric, the company that makes TVs and washing machines and refrigerators, that’s owned by Boss Yue...”

The more Mr. Geng spoke, the more astonished Xiao Xiu became.

Although she didn’t know these people, she had heard of their names; these were the top tycoons in Hai City, and compared to them, Mr. Geng stood nowhere near.

”I heard they’re gathering here today to host a bigwig from the Capital. This person’s incredible. In just a few years, they led Hai City’s tycoons in making significant returns in the financial market. Now, they’re thriving in the Capital, involved in real estate, mobile phones, communications, clothing, and food industries, and every industry is doing well. I’ve heard they even have plans to go into the internet. I don’t know if it’s true.”

Having nothing else to do and not being able to talk to anyone, Mr. Geng introduced many of the big names in Hai City, as well as the exploits of this supposedly soon-to-arrive bigwig from the Capital.

Xiao Xiu was increasingly shocked.

She thought Mr. Geng’s assets were already substantial and was proud of being able to associate with him.

But today she learned what it means for one to be overshadowed by others. Compared with those bigwigs, Mr. Geng was indeed insignificant.

Just as Xiao Xiu was in shock, and many of the wealthy guests were chatting and laughing amongst themselves, a waiter came running in, saying, ”Mr. Su has arrived.”

Boss Ma quickly stood up, and several other big bosses followed him out to greet Mr. Su.

Xiao Xiu didn’t move but couldn’t help but glance toward the door.

Soon, she heard a burst of laughter.

Following that, she saw Boss Ma, along with Boss Yue, Boss Bai, and others, who were already high-profile figures in her eyes, surrounding a family of four as they entered the hall.

”It’s been a while since we have seen Mr. Su. You haven’t changed a bit, still as handsome and suave.”

Boss Ma spoke with flattery and then complimented Anning, ”Is this Mrs. Su? Such a young beauty, after seeing many women, I’ve never met one more gorgeous than Mrs. Su.”

Anning laughed, ”You’re too kind.”

Others teased Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu with small talk.

Su Mingzhu smiled sweetly all the way, while Su Mingyu kept a straight face, not saying a word.

When Xiao Xiu realized who had come in, she was so shocked she almost cried out.

Then, she saw those people seating Xiao Yuan and Anning at the main seats, with even Xiao Yuan’s two daughters carefully placed on chairs. Xiao Xiu felt a turmoil of indescribable emotions inside.

Anger, sorrow, and especially resentment.

Now she understood, what Xiao Yuan said about working for someone in the Capital was complete nonsense.

Surely, Xiao Yuan must have already started a company and made a lot of money but kept it all a secret from the family, watching them struggle for a few small coins, yet stingily refusing to give even a little.

And Xiao Qin, what she said about being a nanny in the Capital, surely that was also a lie.

She was probably working with Xiao Yuan, making who knows how much money, lying to keep the family from bothering them.

Xiao Xiu gritted her teeth.

If Xiao Yuan and Xiao Qin had mentioned they were rich and had given some money to the family earlier, she wouldn’t have had to work a hard job or become Mr. Geng’s mistress.

She left the children at Yangjiazhuang, surely Xiao Yuan and Xiao Qin knew all about it?

They must have known.

With Xiao Yuan being so wealthy and influential, with all these tycoons in Hai City fawning over him, if he wanted to stand up for her, Mr. Geng would have dumped Mrs. Geng long ago and married her.

But what did Xiao Yuan do? He acted completely ignorant, didn’t care about his sister at all.

He watched her become a mistress, saw her children becoming illegitimate, her daughter left in their old home suffering, yet refused to lend a hand. Indeed, he was heartless; the richer he got, the stingier he became.

Xiao Yuan and Anning sat at the main seats, next to Boss Ma, while Mrs. Ma sat beside Anning.

Mrs. Ma was a plump middle-aged woman with a face full of happiness. Her cheerful demeanor seemed quite amiable.

She sat by the side and constantly helped take care of Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu.

Su Mingzhu was very polite and smiled sweetly, ”Thank you, Auntie.”

Su Mingyu reluctantly said, ”Thank you.”

Mrs. Ma laughed, ”Oh, such well-mannered little ones, truly delightful. I almost want to steal them away and raise them myself.”

Su Mingyu raised her eyelids, ”You can’t steal us away.”

Anning smiled at Mrs. Ma, ”Children this age are certainly endearing when they’re well-behaved, but when they get rowdy, they can be quite a handful.”

”I can see your children are well brought up.”

Mrs. Ma truly adored Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu, constantly engaging them in conversation and offering them food.

Meanwhile, Boss Ma and Xiao Yuan discussed the next big venture.

Over a year ago, Xiao Yuan had led Boss Ma and others abroad to speculate in currency, making a significant amount, with everyone following him doubling their assets.

Since then, the wealthy in Hai City practically worshipped Xiao Yuan.

Xiao Yuan thought for a moment, ”This time, we definitely won’t make as much as last time. After all, the last opportunity was rare. But if you trust me, I’ll lead you to earn some pocket money, just to supplement your kids’ allowances.”

Su Mingzhu lowered her head, thinking how her father’s idea of pocket money was indeed substantial.

”Trust you? Of course, we do.”

Boss Bai quickly said, ”This time, we’ll follow Mr. Su’s lead. Where you point, we attack. If anyone disagrees, I, Mr. Bai, won’t let it slide.”

Afterwards, Boss Bai leaned in to find out how Xiao Yuan was planning to proceed.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Bai smiled broadly, ”I just wonder if we can also invest a sum this time. Mr. Su, don’t only think about these gentlemen; let us in on the fun too.”

Xiao Yuan didn’t respond, while Anning smiled and raised her glass, ”It seems Mrs. Bai knows how to enjoy life. We’re new here in Hai City and not very familiar with the place. If Mrs. Bai is free, could you perhaps show me around? If you could find a guide, that would be ideal.”

”That can certainly be arranged.”

Anning’s words caught Mrs. Bai’s attention, and with a smile, she began chatting with Anning.
