The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Anning originally planned to settle her family before going to work.

But soon after returning to the Capital, Professor Zeng’s place called and asked her to hurry back to the institute.

Anning had no choice but to ask Xiao Qin to help Yang Yu buy a house while she hurried back to her job.

She was gone for more than a month, and when she came out of the institute, both sides of the parents had arrived in the Capital.

Previously, Anning also bought a house for Yang Erchou and his wife, and she had already had it tidied up, so when Yang Erchou and his wife came, they moved in directly.

Su Liang and his wife also came, and they moved into a house in the same neighborhood as Xiao Yuan.

Anning returned, and Xiao Yuan gathered the whole family and both sets of parents for a meal together.

He now had many things to attend to and had no time to cook at home, so he reserved a restaurant.

When the big family gathered, it was still lively, and as they ate, they talked about things in the village.

Li Cuixia and Xiao Qin spoke about Xiao Xiu.

”Your sister returned some time ago, saying she was coming to see the children. I noticed she had a big belly. By the look of it, she might be pregnant again. I just don’t know if this time it’s a girl or a boy.”

Xiao Qin was quite angry with Xiao Xiu.

Her cold indifference towards Xiao Xiu made her somewhat disheartened.

Someone like Xiao Xiu isn’t worthy of pity, and Xiao Qin didn’t plan on helping her anymore.

Imagine someone who can abandon their own daughter back home without care, clearly knowing the daughter is being mistreated but ignoring it—who dares to become close friends with her?

To not care about your own children, she definitely won’t be sincere with others.

Even though Xiao Qin is Xiao Xiu’s older sister, Xiao Qin didn’t believe Xiao Xiu would help her with anything if she had a problem.

Honestly, rather than dealing with Xiao Xiu, Xiao Qin felt it was better to maintain a good relationship with Xiao Yuan.

At least, no matter when, her second brother wouldn’t abandon her. If she was in trouble, she couldn’t rely on her parents, and it was impossible to count on her siblings, only Xiao Yuan would give her a hand.

Xiao Qin understood this very clearly.

She then said to Li Cuixia, ”If it’s a girl this time, who does she plan to have the child under?”

Li Cuixia was silent for a moment: ”I hear from your mother’s comments that Xiao Xiu might come to the Capital to find you.”

”Find me?” Xiao Qin was taken aback.

Li Cuixia lowered her voice: ”Your mother said you’re so old and still not married, there might be some problem. Xiao Xiu said if she has another daughter, she’ll let you raise her, so you’ll have something to rely on in old age.”

After hearing this, Xiao Qin was furious.

What does not being married mean there might be some problem?

What’s wrong with her not getting married?

Why does she have to get married?

She currently has her own career, house, car, and money. Why find a man who doesn’t appreciate her to serve? She isn’t stupid, nor does she demean herself.

Noticing Xiao Qin’s furious expression, Li Cuixia quickly said, ”Don’t pay attention to them, those people only know how to daydream.”

Xiao Qin took a deep breath: ”I’m fine, I won’t care about Xiao Xiu’s affairs in the future either.”

Hai City

The whimsical Xiao Xiu watched proudly as Mrs. Geng bustled around attending to her with her big belly.

She giggled, ”Sister, I don’t want to eat this; I want cherries.”

Mrs. Geng smiled gently, ”Alright, I’ll buy them for you later. I’ll choose the best ones for you. We can’t let this little treasure in your belly suffer.”

A few days ago, Xiao Xiu had a check-up at the hospital; she was carrying a boy.

Mr. Geng was exceedingly happy upon knowing Xiao Xiu was pregnant with a son. He transferred a considerable amount of money to Xiao Xiu, bought her a house and a car.

Xiao Xiu started playing tricks with her pregnancy, claiming she wasn’t well, couldn’t rely on her ignorant family, and hoped Mrs. Geng would take care of her.

Mr. Geng returned home to discuss with Mrs. Geng.

He originally thought Mrs. Geng wouldn’t agree, might even have a big argument.

But he didn’t expect Mrs. Geng was more than willing, showing no sign of anger.

Mrs. Geng attended to Xiao Xiu for a day, then drove home.

Upon entering, she saw her daughter, Geng Yixin, wearing a light yellow dress, sitting on the sofa watching TV.

Upon seeing Mrs. Geng, Geng Yixin grumbled, ”You realized to come back, huh? I thought you were going to live there with the Xiao family. Mom, what’s wrong with you? That Xiao family purposely asked you to go over to insult you, why don’t you...”

Mrs. Geng wasn’t angry either, smiled and sat down.

She glanced at the busy maid and murmured softly to Geng Yixin, ”I’m doing this for you three, otherwise why would I do this? I’m not demeaning myself.”

Geng Yixin was stunned.

Mrs. Geng lowered her voice further: ”You guys are all grown up. You have a boyfriend and are about to get married. I have to make plans for you. Your dad is completely bewitched by that little demon now. Once she gives birth to a son, where would we women fit? So I thought I should prepare the dowry for you before she gives birth.”

Geng Yixin looked at Mrs. Geng.

Mrs. Geng smiled, ”Your dad doesn’t respond well when threatened but responds to kindness. I’m softening up and treating the Xiao family nicely. He feels guilty towards me, so asking him for money will be easy. Don’t worry; I’ll make sure to take a hefty chunk from him. When I have the house money and shares transferred to your names, hmph, do you think I really care for your dad with his bald head and big belly? I’m well-maintained and look much younger than him. If I wanted to find someone else, I might even find a young, handsome guy, and then...”

Geng Yixin understood Mrs. Geng’s plan.

Mrs. Geng wanted to first lull Mr. Geng into a false sense of security, make him unsuspecting, and then start siphoning assets. Once she had enough, she’d kick Mr. Geng aside.

The Xiao family might think having a son is a big deal, but that’s too naive.

Mrs. Geng accompanied Mr. Geng through hard times. During the startups, Mrs. Geng made significant contributions.

She wasn’t a caged golden bird. Her scheming and tactics were no less than Mr. Geng’s. Now Mr. Geng, for a mistress and a son, treated Mrs. Geng, the original wife, and his three daughters this way, making Mrs. Geng thoroughly disheartened.

Mrs. Geng now probably wished she could kill Mr. Geng.

”Mom, I support you.”

Geng Yixin laughed, ”Certainly my mom, your scheme is brilliant.”

Mrs. Geng truly knew how to endure. She bought plenty of food and supplies daily to visit Xiao Xiu, occasionally cooked for her, taking care of her meticulously. Xiao Xiu couldn’t even find a reason to complain.

Mr. Geng sometimes visited to find Mrs. Geng busy taking care of Xiao Xiu, not only providing her with a nutritional diet but sometimes massaging her and even inviting specialized obstetricians to check on Xiao Xiu’s fetal position.

Mr. Geng was genuinely moved, feeling Mrs. Geng indeed loved him; for his sake, she could endure such grievances.

Later, he also felt somewhat guilty towards Mrs. Geng.

That night, Mr. Geng didn’t visit Xiao Xiu but returned home.

During the night, as he lay with Mrs. Geng, she softly whispered to him.

”For all these years, we wished for a son, and now it’s finally fulfilled.”

Mr. Geng smiled, ”You’ve been through a lot recently.”

Mrs. Geng held Mr. Geng’s hand, ”This is nothing. Who asked Xiao Xiu to have a son? He’s our Geng family blood, your son, and also my son. It’s only right to treat her well.”

Mrs. Geng sighed, ”It’s my failure; I only birthed three daughters, didn’t have a son. Without a son, we’re ultimately insecure. Once our daughters marry, what about the substantial family assets? They can’t follow the daughters to an outsider’s family.”

Mr. Geng nodded, ”You understand.”

Mrs. Geng laughed, ”I’m doing this for you. Besides, Mr. Geng, our daughters are also our flesh and blood. In the future, the company and everything will be given to the son, but our daughters are getting older, each ready for relationships and marriage. I have to think of them, Mr. Geng. I thought, it’d be better to first set aside the dowry for our daughters, don’t you think?”

Mr. Geng pondered for a moment.

Mrs. Geng said, ”Sons are good, but daughters are also our biological children. If our daughters go without a rich dowry, what if they’re looked down upon by their in-laws after marriage? I can’t stand this thought. Mr. Geng, I’m considering your needs. You want a son, so I attended to Xiao Xiu seriously; I manage her pregnancy, her confinement too, but you should also consider my side. You wouldn’t let our daughters marry without anything, right?”

As Mrs. Geng spoke, she cried.

Mr. Geng’s heart softened, ”Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you; you decide what to do.”
