The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The Old Madam was sleeping soundly when she heard a knock on the door. Upon hearing that Anning was going into labor, she was immediately startled awake.

She quickly sat up, ”Don’t panic, let me take a look first.”

The Old Madam hurriedly dressed and came out, only to see Anning’s hair still wet.

”What’s happened?”

Xiao Yuan quickly said, ”She just took a shower.”

The Old Madam then instructed Xiao Yuan, ”Hurry and drive the car, I’ll dry her hair. Oh, and call Qinzi to have her go to the hospital as well.”

”Okay.”

Xiao Yuan went to the garage to get the car, while the Old Madam dried Anning’s hair, put a hat on her, gathered the things they needed to bring, and when she came out of the house, Xiao Yuan’s car was already in the yard.

The two of them got into the car, Anning took out the big phone to call Xiao Qin.

Previously, Xiao Qin had accompanied Anning for some of her checkups, and helped arrange the delivery room and such. She was quite familiar with the hospital, and upon hearing Anning was going into labor, she quickly got up to drive over.

When Xiao Qin arrived, Anning was already in the delivery room.

The Old Madam and Xiao Yuan were waiting outside, with Xiao Yuan saying to the Old Madam, ”Grandma, sit down, don’t tire yourself.”

The Old Madam waved her hand, ”I can’t sit still. How come Ningning is completely silent now?”

Xiao Yuan felt anxious and tender-hearted; he thought that it would have been better if Anning gave birth at home. If she had given birth at home, he would be there to ensure Anning didn’t suffer much.

But now, with his country background and business knowledge, having never learned medicine, he didn’t dare show any abnormality in front of others and could only worry helplessly.

Xiao Qin came over to support the Old Madam, ”Grandma, my sister-in-law is gathering strength for this, she has two babies in her belly, it’s more demanding than giving birth to one. She must save her energy.”

”You say, how can it be so worrying.”

The Old Madam sat down and complained, ”If she was in pain, she should cry out, then we would know she’s okay. But this silence is what makes us most concerned.”

Xiao Yuan was standing at the corner by the wall, listening to the sounds from the delivery room when his big phone rang.

Xiao Yuan quickly picked it up.

He heard Geng Shuhua’s voice, ”Yuanzheng, your sister and I are in the Capital now, we’re at the train station, can you come and pick us up?”

Xiao Yuan glanced at Xiao Qin, ”Qinzi, go pick up my mother.”

Xiao Qin acknowledged, took the car keys, and walked out.

Anning’s delivery was not going smoothly.

Having lived through many lifetimes, Anning had given birth more than once, but this time was truly exhausting, even for someone who could tolerate as much as her, she was sweating from the pain.

By the time Xiao Qin brought Geng Shuhua and the others, Anning still hadn’t given birth.

Xiao Yuan was already sweating all over from anxiety, the rims of his eyes red with worry.

Seeing this, Geng Shuhua quickly comforted Xiao Yuan, ”Son, don’t be scared. It’s normal for the first delivery to be difficult; some take a whole day without any progress.”

Xiao Yuan clenched his fists tightly, ”It’s okay, I’m not scared, Ningning will be fine.”

By this time, dawn was approaching.

Su Yue spoke to Geng Shuhua, ”Mom, my sister and I will go out to buy some food, Grandma Yang, my brother, and Sister Xiao must be hungry.”

Geng Shuhua was about to give money, but Su Yue quickly said, ”I have money.”

She and Su Shuang went out, bought some breakfast near the hospital, and brought it back.

After everyone finished breakfast, there still wasn’t any movement from Anning. After waiting for another half hour, the sound of a baby’s cry came from inside the room, and Xiao Yuan immediately relaxed.

With the first child born, the second came quickly thereafter. Ten or so minutes later, the second child was also born.

Soon, a nurse came out carrying two babies, and the Old Madam, Geng Shuhua, and Xiao Yuan all gathered around, ”Nurse, how is my daughter-in-law (my wife, my son’s wife)?”

All three were asking about Anning’s condition, none concerned about whether they had girls or boys.

Instead, it was Xiao Qin and Su Yue, the three sisters who went to embrace the children.

”The mother is fine, just exhausted. She’s sleeping now, you can leave someone behind to help move her to the ward later,” the nurse said with a smile before returning to the delivery room to handle the follow-up tasks.

The Old Madam took Xiao Qin and the others to the ward, while Xiao Yuan and Geng Shuhua stayed outside the delivery room to wait for Anning.

A little while later, Anning was pushed out by the nurse.

Xiao Yuan quickly went over to hold Anning’s hand, ”Are you alright? How do you feel now?”

Anning was already worn out, sweating profusely, her complexion poor, ”I’m fine, just a bit tired.”

Xiao Yuan tenderly wiped her sweat, ”Then rest, I’ll keep watch.”

When they reached the ward, Xiao Yuan kept his gaze on Anning without so much as a blink.

The Old Madam and Geng Shuhua were already busy with the babies, Xiao Qin looked on and asked the Old Madam, ”Grandma, should we feed the babies something to eat?”

The Old Madam let the two little ones lie on their sides, ”No need, they’re not crying or fussing now, no need to feed them. Wait until they’ve vomited the impurities from their mouths, then feed them, it’s not too late.”

The Old Madam also discussed with Geng Shuhua about cleaning the babies once they woke, to help them sleep better.

Anning fell asleep, and the Old Madam and Geng Shuhua naturally lowered their voices.

Xiao Yuan stayed by Anning’s side, while Geng Shuhua urged him to look at the babies, ”Yuanzheng, look at your two daughters. See, aren’t they beautiful?”

The grandmother looked at her granddaughters and found them increasingly charming, noticing their black hair, fair skin, and delicate eyebrows and eyes. Although their skin still looked wrinkled, their sleeping appearance was irresistibly cute.

Xiao Yuan glanced over, ”Mom, feed the babies some water when they wake, and milk a bit later.”

Geng Shuhua nodded with a smile, ”Sure, I know, I’ve raised children before, and besides, Grandma is here. She has plenty of experience.”

Seeing Xiao Yuan genuinely worried about Anning, she quickly said, ”Keep watching over Ningning; we’ll take care of the babies.”

Geng Shuhua lowered her head to look at the babies’ tiny hands and feet, feeling a surge of love, ”Look at these two pudgy girls, oh my, how endearing they are.”

The Old Madam suddenly slapped her forehead, ”Oh, almost forgot a major thing. Quick, let’s call home to spread the good news.”

”Yes, yes.”

Only then did Geng Shuhua remember they hadn’t called home yet.

Xiao Qin took out the big phone and called Yang Erchou’s family.

It just happened that Li Cuixia had finished eating and was washing dishes. Hearing the phone ring, she ran over to answer.

”Aunt Cuihua.”

Xiao Qin called with a laugh, ”Share the good news, my second sister-in-law gave birth, early this morning, two big fat girls, mother and daughters are all fine.”

Li Cuixia exclaimed with joy, ”Is Ningning okay? Are you all at the hospital?”

Xiao Qin laughed, ”My second sister-in-law is fine, just tired and fell asleep. We’ll let her talk to you when she wakes.”

”Good, good.”

Li Cuixia repeated ”good” several times, ”I’ll go tell Ningning’s dad. Also, call the Su family and share the good news.”

After hanging up, Xiao Qin then dialed Su Zhong’s house to tell them about Anning’s delivery, asking him to inform Su Liang.

The two babies lying in the crib had the second one sleeping peacefully, while the eldest woke up.

She dared not open her eyes, tears dropping out bit by bit.

Waiting for a while, she felt the outside temperature and realized she had been born again.

But this time, she wasn’t sure where she was or who had given birth to her. Listening to many joyous sounds around, she knew she was born amid expectation. Perhaps this time, she would have a perfect life, not like the last, born with original sin.
