The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

As summer was approaching, Anning’s belly was already very big.

She finished her work at the research institute a while ago and hasn’t been back to school since. She’s been studying at home, occasionally reporting her learning progress to Professor Zeng, and then focusing on her pregnancy.

Anning’s belly kept getting bigger, so big it was a bit alarming to look at.

She didn’t go to the hospital for a check-up; she and Xiao Yuan checked the pulse and knew it was twins.

Li Cuixia called Anning and was informed that she was expecting twins. She immediately wanted to pack her things and come to the Capital to take care of Anning.

She had just finished packing when Yang Erchou returned, making Li Cuixia a bit troubled.

If she were to leave, no one would look after Yang Erchou.

Currently, there is quite a bit of work at the factory. Yang Erchou spends all day at the factory, and with no one to take care of him, he might barely eat, which is not good at his age.

The Old Madam noticed this too.

She confidently reassured, ”No worries, I’ll go to the Capital to take care of Ningning, and you can look after your husband at home.”

Li Cuixia wasn’t so assured, ”Mom, this won’t do, we can’t let you go to the Capital all by yourself, we wouldn’t be at ease.”

”What’s wrong with it?”

The Old Madam chuckled, actually quite eager to visit the Capital, ”You just put me on the train, call Yuanzi in advance to have him pick me up. How could I get lost? Besides, I’m only 60 years old, still strong, capable of cooking and cleaning, and I’ll definitely take good care of Ningning.”

Li Cuixia was about to say something more, but the Old Madam had already decided, ”Let’s not fuss about it. Hurry up and get me ready, we can’t delay my dear grandchild.”

The Old Madam has been behaving particularly well in the past few years, only handling what she’s supposed to, not meddling where she shouldn’t. As long as she has enough to eat and drink, and gets nice clothes, she’s happy to enjoy life, leaving Li Cuixia without any complaints.

After consideration, she thought, Anning is the Old Madam’s biological granddaughter, the Old Madam wouldn’t treat her poorly. So, Li Cuixia and Yang Erchou discussed and prepared the Old Madam’s belongings, sending her onto the train to the Capital the next day.

Once the Old Madam was on the train, Yang Erchou hurriedly called Xiao Yuan, telling him the train number and asking him to remember to pick her up.

Riding the train by herself, the Old Madam found it very refreshing, looking around with curiosity, and before long, the train reached the station.

Xiao Yuan drove over with Anning to pick her up.

Anning stayed in the car, while Xiao Yuan bought a platform ticket and entered to meet the Old Madam.

As soon as the Old Madam got off the train, she saw Xiao Yuan and beamed with joy, ”Yuanzi, how long have you been waiting? Quickly come and get the luggage. Your mother sent you lots of food; gosh, I can’t carry it.”

Xiao Yuan quickly moved to carry the luggage, ”Nan, have you eaten yet? How about we find somewhere to eat before heading home?”

The Old Madam waved her hand, ”No need, no need; we’ll eat at home. Nowhere is as good as home.”

Xiao Yuan chuckled as he led the Old Madam out.

Once they were in the car, the Old Madam was startled upon seeing Anning, ”Why is your belly so big? Why are you going out with such a big belly? What if something happens?”

Anning smiled, ”Don’t worry, I have over a month to go.”

The Old Madam measured Anning’s belly with her hand, ”The babies are big, twins grow big, it’ll be tough during labor.”

”Yeah.”

Anning nodded, ”I go out and walk every day now, more exercise makes the delivery smoother.”

The Old Madam leaned in to quietly ask, ”Ningning, are they girls or boys?”

Xiao Yuan just overheard this, speaking while driving, ”We didn’t check the gender. Both girls and boys are good, as long as they’re healthy and Ningning has a smooth delivery.”

Upon hearing this, the Old Madam laughed even more heartily, ”What about your parents?”

Stopping at a red light, Xiao Yuan glanced back at the Old Madam, ”My parents think the same way, whether girls or boys, as long as there are no issues with the parents or children, it’s all good.”

Though they said this, Anning and Xiao Yuan secretly knew whether they were boys or girls.

The Old Madam sat in the car, constantly gazing at the scenery outside, growing more and more amazed, ”Where are we heading? It feels like it’s getting more remote. Previously, didn’t you live near Ningning’s school?”

Anning held the Old Madam’s hand, ”I was living near school because of classes, but now I’m on break, so we’ve moved to the newly built house.”

”Newly built house?”

The Old Madam was again shocked.

Just then, Xiao Yuan drove into a new community, following the road deeper into the neighborhood, flanked by lots of greenery and architectural pavilions, creating the appearance of a park—extremely attractive.

Xiao Yuan drove to the furthest part of the community, where there was a man-made lake, and behind it stood a single villa, the only one, with this being the community’s premier residence, the largest in size, layout, and best in decoration.

Xiao Yuan parked the car.

Anning and the Old Madam got out of the car.

Anning pointed to this villa, ”This community was built by A Yuan last year. The front ones have been sold, we kept this last one for ourselves. It was built last year and has been undergoing decoration since winter. Now it’s just right for living.”

The Old Madam gazed at the villa, built with obvious taste, evoking an impression of high class and exquisite charm, making one hesitate to leave.

”This house belongs to you?”

The Old Madam asked Anning softly.

Anning supported the Old Madam, ”Yes, Nan, let’s go in quickly.”

Inside, the Old Madam changed into slippers, as a maid approached Anning to inform her that the Old Madam’s room had been prepared, and that lunch was ready, asking if it should be served.

Anning nodded, ”Start serving lunch.”

The Old Madam observed her granddaughter, dressed in a silk long dress, even with a big belly, she didn’t appear overweight. Seeing her from behind, she still seemed like a slender girl, prompting her to ask Anning, ”Are you not eating properly? You look so slim.”

Anning giggled, ”Not at all, A Yuan hired a dedicated nutritionist for me, my health is great. Look at how rosy my complexion is.”

Seeing Anning with a red, vibrant complexion, and seemingly full of energy, especially with her shiny, black hair, the Old Madam realized there’s no lack of nutrition.

”City folks are so particular,”

she remarked with a smile, eagerly planning to learn from those professional nutritionists in the coming days. If she takes good care of her granddaughter, she could stay longer in the Capital.

The Old Madam really favored the environment here.

This grand villa is such a delightful place to live, and the surrounding area, akin to a park, allows for pleasant strolls outside during leisure time, filling the heart with joy.

The maid served lunch, and after the three had eaten, Xiao Yuan commented on needing to hurry to the company for some business.

The Old Madam cheerfully waved him off, ”Then you go quickly. I’m here to watch over Ningning, there should be no issues.”

Xiao Yuan retrieved his car keys and headed out. Just before leaving, Anning called out, ”Remember to bring back a roast duck, Nan loves that.”

The Old Madam was even more delighted, not because of the roast duck, but because her granddaughter remembered her fondness, the most satisfying aspect.

Soon after Xiao Yuan left, Xiao Qin arrived.

During the community’s construction, Xiao Qin had purchased a villa here too, as she lacked enough money, she bought it in installments.

Now the house is decorated, and Xiao Qin occasionally stays here when she has time.

Upon arriving, she brought some homemade snacks, and as she entered, she greeted the Old Madam with a smile.

The Old Madam returned the smile, chatting with Xiao Qin, the trio, mother and daughters, laughed and talked together. After some time, the Old Madam brought up the topic of Xiao Xiu’s daughter, left behind in Yangjiazhuang.

”I don’t know how Xiu’er could be so heartless, just leaving a perfectly good daughter behind, claiming she’d give birth to a big boss’s son, but is childbirth something that can be decided overnight? The man has a legitimate wife, she shouldn’t dream too much. If you ask me, once the girl is born, she should take good care of her. If it’s the boss’s child, he certainly won’t ignore it. Xiu’er should take the opportunity of being young, having a house, money, and find ways to sever ties, properly raise the daughter, perhaps learn some skills. If she meets a good man she can marry, and if not, living independently isn’t bad either.”

This sentiment was truly progressive, leaving Anning and Xiao Qin stunned.

Xiao Qin laughed, ”Nan, your idea is good, but Xiu’er doesn’t think that way.”

”Poor child,”

The Old Madam sighed, ”I’ve seen that child, very pretty, just that... Can your parents properly raise a kid? You weren’t well raised yourselves, let alone a granddaughter, neglected within just a few months. Once, when your mother took the child out, she just left the child on the ground, chatting with others, forgotten while the child cried in hunger, grabbing dirt to eat.”
