The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

”You should discuss this matter with Wei Bin and have him ask his mother’s opinion thoroughly. It’s best to clarify things early on, instead of being in a muddle and possibly suffering losses later on.”

Anning advised Su Yu, ”Talk to him properly, don’t rush. If he doesn’t believe you, he can take a look for himself in the Capital.”

Su Yu nodded, ”I’ll talk to him later.”

Having discussed matters of the Wei Family, Su Yu then asked Anning, ”Ningning, Wei Bin and I are planning to open a small restaurant in the county after we get married. Wei Bin learned from a head chef after graduating from high school, and I’m quite good at cooking too. We thought instead of farming in the countryside, it might be better to open a shop in the county. After all, we’d earn a bit more than staying in the village.”

Anning pondered, ”That sounds feasible, but if you don’t have connections in the county, it’s best not to make the restaurant too big. A small eatery or breakfast shop would be manageable for you both. While the profit might not be huge, the investment is also small. As long as you’re willing to work hard, there shouldn’t be any losses.”

Su Yu frowned, ”Wei Bin’s cooking skills are excellent, and Aunt Wei has some money. We were thinking of opening something larger.”

Anning spoke softly, ”It’s not that I don’t believe in your cooking skills, but opening a large restaurant involves a lot of complications, at least the credit issues are something you might find hard to handle.”

Su Yu was startled.

She had only thought of earning money through the restaurant, never considering the issue of credit.

Upon careful reflection, she realized Anning’s words made sense.

Many people these days like to keep tabs of their restaurant meals and some directly use credit, settling at the end of the year. If the other party is reliable, they’ll pay you at the year’s end, but if they’re not, you won’t be able to collect the debts. With such people around, it’s tough to make money from a restaurant; avoiding losses would be an achievement.

”Wei Bin is honest, and we don’t have any connections. According to what you’ve said, it’s better for us to open a small shop,”

Su Yu smiled at Anning, ”You’re so considerate, I hadn’t even thought of these things.”

The sisters chatted for a while longer before Su Yu got up to leave.

After Su Yu left, Anning went to bed to rest.

The next day, Anning packed her clothes and planned to return to the Capital.

The main reason was that everything at home was clear, and she couldn’t stay there forever. She had missed many classes and needed to catch up.

Anning returned to the Capital, and the next day, Xiao Yuan also came back.

Xiao Yuan brought back some news, that the Gu Family had returned to the Capital, and Gu Xueqing was being hounded by the Xiao Family.

Xiao Qun brought along several of Brother Hei’s men to find Gu Xueqing. Xiao Qun wanted money, and the others wanted Gu Xueqing’s help finding a job.

Gu Xueqing was in a bad mood, and when the Xiao Family came asking for this and that, it made her even angrier. In the end, she couldn’t hold back and had a quarrel with the Xiao Family members.

The Xiao Family isn’t known for hard work but lacks nothing in being shameless. Gu Xueqing, who values her reputation and was educated in civility, naturally couldn’t outdo the Xiao Family. In the end, not only did she give them money, but she also promised to bring Xiao Li to the Capital to help him find a job.

Anning said to Xiao Yuan, ”I bet Gu Xueqing wants to ask Yi Qihang to arrange a job for Xiao Li.”

Xiao Yuan nodded, ”Certainly, Yi Qihang has several factories, a trading company, and a finance company under his name, arranging a few people to work there is quite easy.”

And so it happened that in a few days, not only did Xiao Li and Xiao Qin arrive, but they also brought along Yang Fugui.

Initially, Anning didn’t know until Yang Fugui called her, then she found out.

At that time, Yang Fugui even advised Anning, ”Ningning, Boss Yi’s business is huge, and he’s not bad to look at. With his conditions, he could have his pick of women. If Boss Yi fancies you, it’s your good fortune. Why wouldn’t you...?”

By then, Anning already knew Yang Fugui had found his way to Yi Qihang, working in one of the companies or factories under Yi Qihang’s name.

He had seized the opportunity with Yi Qihang, so naturally, he’d speak favorably on his behalf.

Anning sneered, ”I don’t need you to worry about my matters. I’ll be with whoever I want. Even my dad doesn’t interfere, so why are you, as an elder brother, so concerned?”

Yang Fugui got a bit anxious, ”No, I’m just doing this for your own good. Imagine if you marry Boss Yi, you would live a life of luxury, and my uncle would also benefit.”

Anning asked Yang Fugui, ”Is it that guy Yi who asked you to talk to me?”

Yang Fugui hesitated for a while, ”It’s my own idea.”

Anning abruptly hung up the phone.

Later, Anning had Xiao Yuan investigate and found out that Yang Fugui had joined a real estate company Yi Qihang had just opened last year. The reason Yang Fugui was able to get in was that he told people he was Anning’s cousin, which is why Yi Qihang arranged for him to enter.

And Xiao Li and Xiao Qin went into a food factory under the Yi Group.

Knowing this, Xiao Yuan began to pay attention to the Yi Group’s real estate and food factory.

After waiting for more than half a month, Yang Erchou called Anning and said that he had told Yang Anzhen about the swapped child, and the Gu Family couple also came to Yangjiazhuang to meet Yang Anzhen and her husband.

Yang Anzhen acknowledged the Gu Family couple, but she didn’t want to go to the Capital.

In Yang Anzhen’s own words, she grew up in Yangjiazhuang and married someone in a nearby town; she has property and a career there, so why must she go to the Capital?

Moreover, Fang Jianhua’s family is here as well. It wouldn’t be realistic to abandon their home and business to move to the Capital.

Yang Anzhen told the Gu Family couple to think of her as a daughter married far away, which made her feel better. She promised to live in the Capital for a while when the kids are older and to visit her parents when she’s not too busy.

Initially, the Gu Family had planned to find a job for Yang Anzhen and her husband in the Capital and help transfer their household registration there, but since Yang Anzhen didn’t want to, the Gu Family didn’t force it.

However, Gu Huai Ren and Yao Na still felt they owed Yang Anzhen a lot.

They stayed in Yangjiazhuang for a few days, and before leaving, they left some money for Yang Anzhen and even bought her a house in the Provincial City.

During this period, Yang Anzhen changed her surname to Gu Anzhen.

Su Yu also changed her surname to Yang, becoming Yang Yu.

After Yang Erchou told all this to Anning, Anning asked about the Wei Family’s situation.

Yang Erchou knew and told Anning that Wei Bin found out his father married a mistress in the Capital and had a son, which made Wei Bin furious. He went back and urged his mother to cause a scene in the Capital and suggested severing ties with Wei Daniu.

Wei Bin is indeed honest, but he is not foolish at all.

When he was little, Wei Daniu was hardly ever home and later moved to the Capital. Wei Daniu barely came around throughout the year. Honestly, Wei Bin barely remembers him, and their emotional connection is minimal.

Wei Bin is close to his mother; the mother and son have depended on each other for so many years.

Naturally, he has to think about his mother, and besides, he has to think about himself too.

He’s about to get married, and in the future, with a wife and children, he must consider his own small family.

Wei Daniu is unreliable and cold-hearted. If Wei Bin doesn’t sever ties with him, although Wei Daniu has money now, he doesn’t give Wei Bin a cent. Wei Bin doesn’t benefit from him at all, and if Wei Daniu gets old and tries to return and ask Wei Bin to take care of him, that would be too humiliating for Wei Bin.

He thought, ”Well, since you, Wei Daniu, look down on us, the rural wife and children, why not completely sever ties? What’s ours, we’ll take; what’s not, we won’t. Whatever needs to be done, let it be. You care for your son in the city, so you can rely on him for your retirement then.”

That’s what Wei Bin thought, and he told this to his mother.

Initially, Wei Bin’s mother didn’t want to cause a scene with Wei Daniu or mention divorce because she was worried that if they made a big deal out of it, it would affect the family’s reputation, and Wei Bin might not be able to find a good wife because of it.

But now Yang Yu also knows about it, and Wei Bin supports her in causing a scene. Besides, she thinks Wei Bin is right. If she doesn’t find a way to divorce and sever ties now, when Wei Daniu gets old, the shameless old man might really return seeking care from her and Wei Bin. Imagine how frustrated she’d be then.

Wei Bin and his mother discussed it, and the mother and son planned to go to the Capital to find Wei Daniu in the coming days.

Yang Erchou told Anning: ”I gave your number to Wei Bin. They might look for you when they get to the Capital. If you can help, please lend a hand.”

Anning agreed: ”With Sister Xiao Yu’s connection, I’ll definitely help.”

After finishing the call with Yang Erchou, Anning packed her bag and went to Xiao Yuan’s place.

When she arrived home, Xiao Yuan hadn’t returned yet. Anning put down her bag and looked in the fridge; there was meat and vegetables, so she started preparing to cook.

Just after she washed the rice, Xiao Qin arrived.

Xiao Qin didn’t look very well. Seeing her come in, Anning quickly asked, ”What’s wrong? Is there something wrong with the shop, or did you encounter some difficulty?”

Xiao Qin shook her head.

She sat in the chair silently for a long time before saying, ”I haven’t dared to come to see my second brother lately... I’m just... I’m scared that second brother won’t acknowledge me since he’s not our biological family. I had the closest relationship with my second brother since childhood; wherever I went as a child, he would carry me. My parents didn’t care about me. When I was so hungry that I cried, it was second brother who found me food. If he doesn’t acknowledge me anymore, what should I do? All these days, I haven’t dared to ask. I’m thinking as long as I don’t say it, he’ll still be my second brother.”

As Xiao Qin spoke, she began to cry.
