The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The name Xiao Mei is very familiar to Su Mingzhu.

In her previous life during her youth, when Su Mingzhu didn’t know much about her biological parents’ affairs, she once had a little boyfriend.

To call him a little boyfriend was more like a childhood friend, a little brother she grew up with.

But later, this little brother was taken by Xiao Mei.

Su Mingzhu was sad for a long time back then. Afterward, as she matured a bit and learned about her parents’ situation, she secretly visited Yi Qihang in prison and privately investigated the events of that year. The more she learned, the more she understood human nature, and she lost all interest in finding a boyfriend.

Before her death, she heard Xiao Mei’s name once more. By then, Xiao Mei had become a third-tier starlet. What happened to Xiao Mei afterward, Su Mingzhu didn’t know.

But in her heart, Su Mingzhu knew that Xiao Mei was a particularly scheming and ruthless woman.

As many would say, Xiao Mei is a manipulative girl.

Su Mingzhu actually held no particular grudge against Xiao Mei.

Although Xiao Mei once snatched her boyfriend, Su Mingzhu never hated her.

Su Mingzhu just never thought that Xiao Mei happened to be from the same village as her mother’s hometown, and she feared that Xiao Mei might cause trouble detrimental to her family in the future.

Su Mingzhu listened earnestly to her father talking.

She heard Xiao Yuan say, ”It must be Xiu’er’s child. I don’t know how they’re raising them. These days, whose child still wears tattered clothes? Every year, Xiu’er sends money, they live in the house, and they take the rent from the shop. That’s more than enough to raise a child. Why are they still treating the child so poorly?”

”It shows that some people are naturally selfish in their bones.”

Anning said softly, ”When you were little, they said they had no money, didn’t allow you to study, and claimed having many children was a heavy burden, wouldn’t even let you eat your fill. Back then, villagers believed them. But now? They’re raising just Xiao Mei and still receive money from the child’s mom, occupy the house and shop, but still act the same way. This means it wasn’t due to hardship that they didn’t raise the child well but because of laziness and selfishness.”

Su Mingzhu listened nearby, becoming more puzzled.

By the time she arrived at the Su family’s, Su Mingzhu finally understood what was going on.

It turned out her father was mistaken at birth; he was actually the biological child of the Su family but grew up in the Xiao family, and is siblings with Xiao Mei’s mother, Xiao Xiu.

Upon knowing this relationship, Su Mingzhu elevated Xiao Mei’s ranking in her mind and decided she needed to be more cautious in the future.

Arriving at the Su family’s, Anning led the children out of the car.

Su Liang and his wife had been waiting.

Upon seeing them return, Geng Shuhua hurried to hug Su Mingzhu, while Su Liang picked up Su Mingyu.

”Oh my, our sweet one grew up so lovely, more and more adorable.”

Geng Shuhua was immensely fond of her two granddaughters.

Su Liang, usually not talkative and often with a stern face, now smiled seeing the two kids, holding Su Mingyu and not letting go.

The two children truly are so endearing.

Growing up well, and Anning knows how to groom and Xiao Yuan doesn’t hesitate to spend money on the children.

The couple presents the children as certainly striking figures.

Inside, with heating, Anning took off the children’s capes and set them aside.

Geng Shuhua touched the capes and asked, ”Are these made of mink fur? They don’t feel fake.”

Anning laughed and said, ”They’re real. A Yuan designed the clothes. Last year, A Yuan set up a factory specializing in children’s clothing and products, not for profit, but so our children could use items we favor. Now, the children’s clothes and toys are all produced in our factory, safe and secure to use.”

”That’s why my granddaughters are so blessed.”

Geng Shuhua laughed, ”Look at how attentive A Yuan is to them, considering every little thing.”

She whispered, ”These capes must’ve cost quite a bit, right?”

Anning nodded, ”Each one is more than ten thousand.”

Geng Shuhua was astonished, wanting to say it’s too extravagant but reconsidered Xiao Yuan’s wealth and swallowed her words.

Honestly, Geng Shuhua truly felt buying such expensive clothes for little children was wasteful since they grow quickly, and clothes get small with only a few wears, unlike adults who can wear a garment for years.

”I’ll put the clothes away.”

Geng Shuhua picked up the capes and put them in the cabinet.

She genuinely worried about dirtying the clothes, as they cost nearly thirty thousand, and if dirtied, the children wouldn’t wear them; it would be such a waste.

Su Liang didn’t say much; just brought snacks for the kids.

Su Mingzhu sat obediently eating fruits.

Su Mingyu wasn’t fond of snacks; she continued playing with the little robot in her hands.

Su Liang glanced at the robot, ”Is it also a toy from the factory?”

Anning quickly replied, ”Not this one. The educational toys we produce at home aren’t Mingyu’s favorites anymore. I made this robot for her, as she’s interested in it now.”

Su Liang secretly marveled.

Thinking his two granddaughters are lucky to have been born into a prosperous family; otherwise, they’d be too expensive to raise.

Su Mingzhu loves beauty, very particular about dressing up, and favors artistic items. Su Mingyu’s hobby is even stranger; little she is, playing with things like the nine rings, tangrams, and that Rubik’s Cube. Su Liang can’t figure those out, yet the child plays them until she’s tired of them. Her mind must be something extraordinary.

Luckily, the son earns money, and the daughter-in-law is some scientist who can make toys for the kids; otherwise, they’d certainly fall behind elsewhere.

Su Liang smiled at Anning, ”Mingyu is like you, her little mind is indeed smart. She might be a top scorer for the province in the future.”

Anning patted Mingyu’s head, ”Top scorer or not, I haven’t thought about it. We need to fulfill the child’s preferences.”

Speaking lightly, but something most couldn’t achieve.

Geng Shuhua teased the children for a while and went to cook.

Anning followed to lend a hand.

Xiao Yuan and Su Liang stayed with the children.

During mealtime, Su Mingyu sat obediently at the table, eating quickly from a small bowl, finishing her meal, then taking out a book from the little backpack brought along.

Su Mingzhu sat down gracefully like a little lady, eating elegantly.

With her tiny spoon, no rice fell onto the table, and her face was tidy, with not even her little mouth stained with grease.

This made Geng Shuhua exclaim repeatedly, ”This child is so clever. In all my years, I haven’t seen a child more skillful than our Mingzhu.”

Su Mingyu looked up at Geng Shuhua, then continued reading.

After a while, Su Mingyu brought the book to Anning, seeking explanation.

Anning started to explain it to her.

Geng Shuhua whispered to Xiao Yuan, ”Son, does Mingyu understand those books? I see so many unfamiliar symbols on it. What kind of book is that?”

Xiao Yuan replied softly, ”It’s a French book. Mingyu has mastered Chinese characters and learned English well enough, now studying French.”

”My goodness.”

Geng Shuhua nudged Su Liang, ”Hubby, let’s quickly visit the ancestors’ graves. See if there’s miraculous smoke rising from our family tomb.”
