The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

When Anning’s family returned, Old Madam hesitated upon seeing Su Yu, then held Su Yu’s hand and wouldn’t let go.

Not only did Anning and the others notice that Su Yu looked like Old Madam, but the Old Madam herself noticed too.

To Old Madam, Su Yu, who looked like her biological granddaughter, felt close, despite not having spent time together for over twenty years.

”Xiao Yu, we don’t insist that you sever ties with the Su family. After all, they raised you for over twenty years, and emotionally, you’re closer to them than to us. We just think you can consider having more relatives, maintain ties on both sides. How about that?”

Old Madam asked Su Yu softly.

Su Yu originally worried about acknowledging her biological parents and feared that the Yang family wouldn’t let her interact with the Su family. But now, hearing Old Madam’s reasonable words, Su Yu felt warm inside: ”Grandma, I’ll listen to you.”

”Good, good.”

Old Madam was also quite pleased: ”Some other day, have your mom take you to see your sister. You two haven’t met yet.”

”Mm, I not only gained a sister but also a nephew.”

Su Yu smiled, gradually relaxing.

Li Cuixia and Anning quickly tidied up a bedroom next to Old Madam, and with new bedding sheets, they made the bed. Once the room was done, the mother-daughter pair quickly went to make food.

While Old Madam chatted with Su Yu, Anning asked Li Cuixia in a low voice while cooking: ”Mom, what kind of people are the Su family?”

Li Cuixia thought for a moment: ”I’ve heard the Su family is nice. This Su Liang is the second eldest in the Su family. Your dad mentioned him; he’s an honest and hardworking man. Oh, a few years ago, when they built their house, they ordered doors and windows from us. Their new house is well-kept, and they have a TV, washing machine, motorcycle, all set up.”

Speaking of this, Li Cuixia hummed disdainfully: ”Not every family is like the Xiao family, lazy pack of them. Several young men in their twenties can’t keep their home going. The Su Liang’s family has just three daughters, and they still manage to have everything. All three daughters went to school, Su Yu finished high school, although she didn’t go to university. The other two are twins, one named Su Yue and the other Su Shuang, both in high school, maybe in sophomore year or something.”

Just then, Yang Erchou came to help with cooking and upon hearing the conversation about the Su family, he added: ”The Su family is really good. Su Liang’s brother, Su Gui, is the village chief, and their fourth, Su He, is a teacher at the county middle school.”

Anning smiled upon hearing this: ”Ah, it’s Mr. Su’s family. Had you not mentioned, I wouldn’t have known. Mr. Su taught me in freshman year. He’s really good.”

Anning moved closer to Yang Erchou: ”Dad, you guys didn’t want me to date Xiao Yuan before because he was part of the Xiao family. But now he isn’t. The Su family is nice, his father is honest and hardworking. You shouldn’t oppose this anymore, right?”

Yang Erchou and Li Cuixia exchanged glances, finding it amusing.

Li Cuixia glanced at Anning: ”Why are you asking about the Su family? Oh, so this was your plan. You knew Xiao Yuan wasn’t that family’s child and that’s why you agreed so readily a few days ago.”

”No, I didn’t know.”

Anning quickly hugged Li Cuixia coyly: ”I was really sad at that time. But considering how hard it’s been for dad and mom to raise me, I didn’t want you both to suffer because of me, so I agreed to break up with Xiao Yuan.”

She looked at Yang Erchou again: ”Dad, Xiao Yuan is really good. He’s capable and can earn money and treats me well. He puts the money he earns in my hands and fears I might not eat well, often cooking and delivering food to me at school. Dad, I don’t care if he has money or power. I care about his sincerity towards me.”

With their child speaking this way, what else could Yang Erchou do?

”Fine, we won’t bother anymore. After all, you’re not graduated yet, and you can’t get married for now. You two just keep seeing each other.”

Yang Erchou waved his hand.

He thought it over, feeling it might be better for Anning to date someone like Xiao Yuan than someone unknown. At least they watched Xiao Yuan grow up, and home is nearby. Knowing details, lifestyle habits, etc., provides more certainty.

Gu Xueqing was on the phone complaining to Yi Qihang.

”Qihang, I really didn’t expect Dad and Mom to be so heartless.”

She sobbed while speaking, almost unable to breathe: ”Even if I’m not their biological child, the affection of twenty years isn’t fake. They said they don’t want me just like that. Qihang, what should I do now?”

Yi Qihang lay in bed, feeling unwell, with a blocked nose making it hard to breathe.

His complexion was poor, and hearing Gu Xueqing say that Gu Huai Ren didn’t want her gave Yi Qihang a slight panic and disappointment. Still, he felt deeply for Gu Xueqing.

”Don’t worry, I want you even if they don’t. I will never leave you.”

Yi Qihang was good at sweet-talking, giving one heartfelt line after another: ”I’ll work hard to make sure you don’t suffer. If staying there feels tough, come back. Your husband is here, and he’ll take care of you.”

Yi Qihang comforted Gu Xueqing for a while until she finally smiled through tears: ”Thank goodness for you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know what to do.”

After hanging up, Yi Qihang sat up, drew out a sheet of paper and a pen from the bedside table, scribbled names upon it.

Yi Qihang circled Gu Xueqing’s name along with the Gu family’s.

With the Gu family not wanting Gu Xueqing, he wouldn’t be able to leverage their influence anymore.

Before, even if the Gu family had cast Gu Xueqing out, all of Si Jiu City knew her as the Gu family’s only young lady. People would respect her when out on errands.

But considering the Gu family’s actions now, they must intend to sever ties with Gu Xueqing.

Moreover, the Gu family found their biological daughter. Soon, they’ll bring her home, maybe even have a gathering to introduce the real heiress of the Gu family.

When that happens, Gu Xueqing’s situation will be more awkward, making her position even more uneasy.

Yi Qihang would also face repercussions.

Yi Qihang contemplated, assessing his ventures with the Gu family involved, planning to wrap them up quickly, preventing the Gu family from finding any leverage over him.

Xiao Yuan went back to Sujiatun with Su Liang and his wife.

Upon arriving at Su Liang’s house, an Old Madam grabbed him.

Old Madam looked Xiao Yuan over, eyes red from apparent crying: ”Good, good, the Su Family finally has a root.”

Xiao Yuan glanced back at Su Liang.

Su Liang quickly said: ”This is your Grandma. She bore the four of us brothers, but none of us were promising. The family had eight daughters without a son.”

Huh?

Xiao Yuan got a little worried. Worried the family might favor boys over girls. If so, he would have quite a way to go with Anning.
