The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xiao Yuan saw Xiao Xiu standing there with her big belly, glanced at her, and turned to leave.

Xiao Qin quickly pulled Xiao Xiu aside to the roadside and asked in a low voice, ”What’s going on?”

Xiao Xiu’s eyes were red, ”Does Second Brother not want to see me anymore?”

Xiao Qin ignored Xiao Xiu’s question, eagerly asking, ”What’s with your belly? Did you get married outside?”

Xiao Xiu shook her head, ”No.”

She recounted her story with Mr. Geng: ”This child is Mr. Geng’s. I originally thought if I could have a son, Geng Family’s property would all be mine. But when I got checked at six months, it turned out to be a girl.”

When mentioning the girl, a trace of anger flashed in Xiao Xiu’s eyes: ”How could it be a girl? Mr. Geng’s family already has three daughters, he doesn’t care for another girl. I didn’t want to give birth to it and annoy him, but now it’s over seven months. I thought I’d come back and have the baby, register her under Big Brother’s or Fourth Brother’s name, and let Dad and Mom help take care of her. After that, I can go back and take care of myself properly, and maybe try again for a son.”

Xiao Qin’s forehead veins were throbbing listening to this, her head aching almost unbearably.

The most frustrating part was an anger inside her that she couldn’t express.

”How could you be so muddle-headed, everything’s going well with you...”

Xiao Qin thought about where she could find a broom; she really wanted to give Xiao Xiu a good beating: ”How could you be so foolish to become someone’s mistress, don’t you have any shame?”

Xiao Xiu wiped away tears, ”I had no other way. That old woman kept making things difficult for me.”

Xiao Qin was nearly driven mad with anger, ”If she makes things difficult for you, you can just stop working for her family. You’ve got hands and feet, you won’t starve. If worse comes to worst, come to the Capital and find me, I can help you find a job—but how can you be so disrespectful to yourself...”

Xiao Xiu showed no sign of remorse, ”What can you do for me? You’re just a nanny too. What’s the good job you could find for me? Instead of struggling for a couple of bucks, it’s better to be with Mr. Geng. At least after being with him for nearly a year, he bought me a house, said he’d get me a car after this child is born, and is giving me $5,000 a month. My life is pretty good.”

”I’m done with you.”

No matter what Xiao Qin said, Xiao Xiu wouldn’t listen, leaving Xiao Qin genuinely feeling like giving up on this foolish person: ”You do whatever you want then, come on, I’ll take you to Second Brother to transfer the property.”

As soon as Xiao Xiu heard about getting the house, she immediately smiled: ”Once the house is transferred, it’ll be left for this daughter in my belly. At least she’ll have some security. I’ll have to thank Second Brother properly later.”

Xiao Qin rolled her eyes.

She wondered if Xiao Yuan would want to slap her when Xiao Xiu thanked him.

When they arrived at the real estate center, Xiao Yuan was already waiting. Xiao Xiu had brought her household registration and other things, everything was ready. Xiao Yuan had also made arrangements in advance, so it didn’t take much time to complete the procedures.

A residential house and a storefront were transferred to Xiao Xiu just like that.

Xiao Xiu smiled, ”Second Brother, thank you for still thinking of me. Don’t worry, if I benefit in the future, I’ll definitely think of you too.”

Xiao Yuan’s face remained cold, ”No need for that. The house is yours now, and we have nothing to do with each other anymore. We’ll go our separate ways.”

Xiao Xiu was momentarily stunned, ”No matter what, you’re still my Second Brother. I’ll always acknowledge you.”

Actually, among the many children of the Xiao Family, Xiao Yuan was the most sincere and kind, looking after the younger siblings a lot. Among the Xiao children, Xiao Yuan’s bond was the deepest.

Even though Xiao Xiu was muddle-headed and confused, she actually knew that Xiao Yuan was a truly caring family member.

Xiao Yuan glanced at Xiao Xiu’s belly, ”Take care of yourself.”

He called Xiao Qin, ”Qinzi, let’s go.”

Xiao Qin sighed, ”Xiuer, while you’re young, learn some skills, and save some money instead of spending it all. Or else...”

She didn’t finish, but Xiao Xiu understood her meaning.

Xiao Qin worried Xiao Xiu might spend the money foolishly, and when Mr. Geng no longer wanted her, she wouldn’t be able to support herself—this was a reminder to Xiao Xiu to secure something for herself.

”Sis, I understand.”

Xiao Xiu replied.

Xiao Qin quickly caught up with Xiao Yuan, ”Second Brother, I don’t want to go home, let’s go back to the Capital. I can’t be at ease with Second Sister-in-law alone at home.”

”Alright, let’s go then.”

Xiao Yuan was also quite troubled, not wanting to linger in this place any longer.

As the siblings boarded the train, Xiao Qin talked to Xiao Yuan, ”Honestly, Mom and Dad should have tried to reason with Xiu’er. They just let her make a mess of things.”

Xiao Yuan quietly said, ”Xiu’er gave them money, and they saw the money, ignoring everything else.”

Xiao Qin thought it over, ”Later, I’ll call Xiu’er. If her child really has to be raised at home, it’s best to register her under Xiao Li’s name. At least Li Huixx has more conscience than my elder sister-in-law.”

”Speak to her about it,”

Xiao Yuan said, leaning back in his seat and closing his eyes to rest.

Xiao Qin was full of thoughts but seeing Xiao Yuan clearly didn’t want to talk further, she kept quiet herself. She noticed Xiao Yuan looked tired and didn’t want to disturb him, so she closed her eyes pretending to sleep, though her thoughts were chaotic.

Despite Xiao Hei being quite honest, his focus was entirely on his wife. For that mute wife, even the parents became unrecognizable, and Wu Chunli wasn’t any better.

That mute woman is full of schemes, always looking for advantages, with sticky fingers to boot, often sneaking around.

Xiao Qin had long heard complaints from He Fangfang, saying Wu Chunli was a troublemaker who, even after the family was split, often came back to the old house to steal. She would take whatever was available—oil, rice, flour—and also wouldn’t contribute a thing; whenever anyone in the village needed Xiao Hei’s help at events, she wouldn’t allow it, and at weddings or funerals, she wouldn’t pitch in. Every time there’s a feast, she shamelessly joins with He Fangfang to eat, making Fangfang feel embarrassed.

Wu Chunli’s behavior made Xiao Hei’s reputation stink alongside hers. People in the village would curse her, saying she deserved to be mute.

In comparison, Li Huixx was a bit better than Wu Chunli.

She wouldn’t take advantage of others but also wouldn’t let others take advantage of her.

Li Huixx was skilled at managing the household, very frugal to the point of stinginess, and often clashed with Wu Chunli, fighting from time to time. Aside from these, Li Huixx was stronger in handling matters.

Because of this, Xiao Qin thought about advising Xiao Xiu to register her child under Li Huixx’s name.

Contemplating these thoughts, Xiao Qin gradually fell asleep.

When they arrived in the Capital, Xiao Qin called Xiao Xiu.

She told Xiao Xiu her thoughts. Xiao Xiu had thought it through too, agreeing that putting the child under Li Hui’s name was better than the mute’s. At least Li Huixx’s reputation was better.

Seeing Xiao Xiu had her mind on this matter, Xiao Qin felt somewhat at ease.

After two months, when Anning was completely stable and continued school work, Xiao Xiu called Xiao Qin, saying she’d given birth to a girl and registered the baby under Li Huixx’s name. However, the child wouldn’t be raised by Li Huixx; she was handed over to He Fangfang, and the rental income from the shop would cover the child’s expenses.

Xiao Qin was somewhat unwilling to talk to Xiao Xiu, uttering a few vague words. Then Xiao Xiu mentioned she planned to return to the South City after her confinement period; she feared Mr. Geng might find another woman and felt the need to go back and keep an eye on him.

Xiao Qin felt another headache, really not wanting to deal with Xiao Xiu anymore.
