The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Since the children are young, plus Anning and Xiao Yuan have many things to attend to, they haven’t gone back to celebrate the New Year for two years.

This year, the children are a bit older, so the couple discussed going home for the New Year.

As it approached the lunar month, Anning finished her work, and Xiao Yuan made time as well. The family packed up and drove back to the countryside.

For the past two years, the Old Madam has been living with Anning.

It was truly difficult with the kids, and Anning didn’t have the time to stay home full-time to care for them. So, she hired a nanny, but she was still worried, needing someone to watch over them—even better since the Old Madam truly enjoyed staying in the Capital. Thus, she stayed.

The Old Madam watched Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu learn to walk, and then saw them learn to talk. Now, they can sweetly call her ’Great Grandma,’ which truly makes the Old Madam love these two little girls from the bottom of her heart.

As they were going home, the Old Madam decided to dress up Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu specifically.

Both girls wore red sweaters, red wool skirts, and gray leggings. Instead of a cotton coat outside, they donned a Bai Se fur cape and wore little hats with furry balls on them.

The two children were already adorable, but dressed this way, standing together, they were even more charming and endearing than the children in holiday posters.

The Old Madam dressed up the two kids and truly didn’t want to let go of them.

Su Mingyu kept a cold expression, not saying a word, while Su Mingzhu sweet-talked the Old Madam.

As they headed out, Su Mingzhu still held Su Mingyu’s hand: ”Sister, walk slowly, don’t fall.”

The cold expression on Su Mingyu’s face gradually warmed up a bit.

Since Su Mingyu learned to walk, she has displayed an imposing aura akin to a grand master. This girl is genuinely cool, often keeping a cold face, not liking crowds, and preferring to play alone at home. Except for family, she almost doesn’t take orders from anyone—truly showing herself as cold-hearted and indifferent from a young age.

Su Mingzhu is quite the opposite, smiling sweetly at everyone she meets, eloquent and charming. Compared to Su Mingyu, Su Mingzhu is more well-liked.

If it were an ordinary family, perhaps the parents would favor the eldest and overlook the second child.

But Anning and Xiao Yuan cherish both daughters dearly, never neglecting the second child despite her aloofness. Fair and impartial, they gradually brought a touch of human warmth to Su Mingyu’s face.

Once inside the car, Su Mingzhu immersed herself in picture books, while Su Mingyu played with her Rubik’s Cube.

Anning watched Su Mingyu’s little hands dexterously turning this and twisting that, finishing the cube in no time before tossing it aside and staring blankly.

Anning hugged Su Mingyu and took out some pieces from her bag, then began to assemble them in front of Su Mingyu, soon piecing together a beautiful robot.

Su Mingyu’s eyes gradually brightened.

”I want to play.”

Anning gave her the robot.

Su Mingyu then seriously analyzed how to disassemble the robot.

Su Mingzhu rolled her eyes and continued flipping through her picture book.

Anning then asked Su Mingzhu, ”Can you understand what you’re reading, Zhu Zhu?”

Su Mingzhu nodded, ”I understand it, Mom. Let me tell you the story on it.”

”Alright.”

Anning patted Su Mingzhu’s head, showing an attentive listening posture.

The car cruised along the smooth highway, with the outside depicting a winter scene while inside was snug and warm like spring.

Xiao Yuan noticed the Old Madam seemed a bit tired and asked her, ”Grandma, would you like to rest at the back?”

This time, the family traveled in a specially purchased RV, which was quite spacious with beds at the back for resting, along with a TV and other amenities—comfort was undeniably top-notch.

The Old Madam thought about it and decided to take a nap.

She went to the back to sleep. Su Mingyu played for a while but couldn’t dismantle the robot. She wasn’t upset or crying, continuing to brainstorm ways to take it apart.

Meanwhile, Yang Erchou’s family at Yangjiazhuang had already started bustling around.

Gu Anzhen and Fang Jianhua came with their son Fang Xu, and Yang Yu and Wei Bin came with their daughter Wei Shasha.

Wei Shasha is about the same age as Anning’s pair of twins.

After Anning discovered she was pregnant, Yang Yu found herself pregnant just two months later, and the three children were born within mere months of each other.

Now, the grownups were busy tidying the house and cooking, while Fang Xu, being a bit older, took Wei Shasha to play outside.

They stepped out, attracting several children to join their play.

Fang Xu carried candies in his pocket, offering them to every youngster who joined. Wei Shasha, with her pretty looks, appearing well-mannered and smartly dressed, enticed many kids to want to play with her.

A group of kids played in front of Yang Erchou’s house. From afar, a tiny, grimy girl struggled to walk while carrying a basket.

The girl spotted Wei Shasha, her eyes brimming with admiration.

Just at that moment, a grand and imposing vehicle stopped in front of Yang Erchou’s house.

The kids, curious, gathered around.

As the car door opened, Anning and Xiao Yuan stepped out, each holding the hand of Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu.

Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu were truly like snowballs, their skin snowy white, features exceptionally exquisite. Coupled with their attire, markedly different from L County, they indeed seemed like fairies accidentally stepping into the mortal world, leaving everyone holding their breath at the sight of them.

From a distance, the grimy little girl gazed at Su Mingzhu and Su Mingyu with even greater envy.

She looked down at her ragged clothes and nearly worn-out shoes, bowing her head almost entirely.

Anning noticed the little girl right away.

She glanced at Xiao Yuan, who nodded back at her.

Then, as if they hadn’t seen anything, they took the Old Madam and the children into the house.

”Grandpa, Grandma, we have guests at home.”

Fang Xu called out to the house.

Anning chuckled, glancing back at Fang Xu, ”You’re Little Xu, right? I’m your Aunt, not a guest.”

Fang Xu scratched his head, ”I know you, just haven’t met.”

He pulled out the silver lock around his neck, ”My mom said Aunt gave this to me and I’ve been wearing it since childhood.”

Wei Sha blinked her big eyes at Anning, ”Are you the Aunt from the Capital?”

Anning nodded with a smile, beckoning Wei Sha over, ”Come, let’s go home with Aunt.”

They returned home, where steaming dishes filled the table.

Anning and the others were hungry, so they sat down to eat first before catching up.

After eating, Anning and Xiao Yuan sat for a while before leaving with the children to Sujiatun.

The reason they first visited Yangjiazhuang was to drop off the Old Madam. Then they would stay at Sujiatun for a few days, planning to return to Yangjiazhuang during the first month of the New Year too.

As they departed, they again spotted the little girl sneaking peeks at them from a corner.

In the car, Anning asked Xiao Yuan, ”Isn’t that Xiao Mei?”

Hearing Xiao Mei’s name, Su Mingzhu hesitated for a moment before immediately becoming vigilant.
