Reborn As Super Heiress

Yan Xuesong nodded. ”Of course. Yun Province has the largest number of orchid varieties, especially deep in the mountains and jungles—there are countless rare types.”

”But the jungle is dangerous. People who aren’t familiar with it go in and can’t even find the orchid varieties they want. It’s already good enough if they don’t get lost inside.”

Huo Sining couldn’t help raising her eyebrows with a smile when she heard this. ”Is that so? Then I’ll ask around and see if I can find someone to help.”

Yan Xuesong was stunned and subconsciously asked, ”Find someone? What kind of person are you looking for?”

Huo Sining smiled and said, ”I have a company called A Beautiful Perfumer. It specializes in spice trading, and what we mainly sell is balsam. The source of this raw material is the Pili Tree that grows in Xishuangbanna. So I’m quite familiar with the indigenous villages over there in Xishuangbanna. It shouldn’t be hard to find someone to help us go into the jungle and look for a few top-grade orchids.”

When Yan Xuesong heard this, his eyes lit up at once, and he became visibly excited:

”You know the indigenous people of Xishuangbanna? That’s excellent. In the jungles of Yun Province, there’s no better guide than the natives. But the people there are all very strange in temperament. They regard the Great Deity as their god and are extremely resistant to outsiders entering. Are you sure you can find someone willing to help?”

Huo Sining said with a smile, ”I do tens of millions worth of business with them every year and have a very good relationship with their Clan Leader. It’s just going into the mountain to find a few orchids; they’re not that pedantic.”

As she spoke, Huo Sining directly took out her phone, found Yan En’s number, and dialed it.

It wasn’t yet the season to tap Pili Oil from the Pili Trees, so when Huo Sining’s call came through, Yan En was clearly a bit surprised.

Huo Sining didn’t hide anything and directly told him her purpose.

These days, Yan En held a certain status and prestige in the village. If it were usually some outsider wanting to enter the mountain, the clan would definitely think of ways to stop them. But Huo Sining was different. These past few years, when she’d been purchasing Pili Oil from them, she had always been very trustworthy, and she personally came in person every year, never delegating the work to others.

So Yan En and the rest of the people in the village trusted Huo Sining greatly. When she said she just wanted to go into the mountain to look for a few orchids, Yan En didn’t doubt it at all.

You have to understand, all the Pili Trees behind their mountain had technically already been bought by Huo Sining, yet she still allowed them to tap Pili Oil and paid market price to purchase it from them. Faced with someone like that, Yan En had no reason to be suspicious. He believed that if Huo Sining were going into the mountain for some other purpose, she definitely wouldn’t hide it from him.

After hearing Huo Sining’s request, Yan En agreed without a moment’s hesitation and said he would go ask the Village Head for approval.

With this promise from Yan En, Huo Sining felt relieved. After hanging up, she lifted her head and looked at Yan Xuesong:

”They’ve already agreed. I’ll send someone to Xishuangbanna as soon as possible. Of course, if you and Professor Yan also want to go, you can come along.”

Naturally, Yan Xuesong wouldn’t reject such an opportunity. Being able to enter the Xishuangbanna jungle was absolutely a great chance to study and collect plant samples.

However, just as this thought formed, Huo Sining, as if she had seen right through him, directly cut off his fantasy:

”But I have to say this upfront. The native I’m contacting is a Meng Balanaxi man. You might not be very familiar with people from that area. It’s in the Xishuangbanna jungle of Yun Province. The people there are very feudal in their thinking and still preserve traditions from thousands of years ago. They’re extremely stubborn. Once they decide on something, no matter how outsiders try to persuade them, they won’t change.”

”They regard Meng Balanaxi as a sacred mountain. Ordinary people can only sneak in if they want to enter. If it weren’t for my special relationship with them, they probably wouldn’t be giving us the green light this time either.”

”So I hope that after you and Professor Chen get there, you can respect and abide by the local traditional rules. Since we’re going for top-grade Orchid Grass, let’s not mix in any other motives. Otherwise, I can’t promise they won’t get angry, change their minds on the spot, and dump you in the mountain.”

”At that point, you’d be stuck in the mountains with no one to call for help from heaven or earth, so don’t blame me for not warning you in advance.”

Huo Sining’s expression was very serious. She had been to Meng Balanaxi and naturally knew some of the local customs. She deeply respected these minority groups’ traditional culture and didn’t want outsiders to destroy their millennia-old rules for selfish reasons.

Even after doing so much business with these clans, Huo Sining didn’t feel she had any right to stand on some moral high ground and criticize or judge their civilization. So she had to lay down the rules with Yan Xuesong and the others before they went. Otherwise, if something happened later, regrets would come too late.

She knew very well that some experts and scholars would stop at nothing for their research, but since she was the one arranging this trip, she didn’t want Yan Xuesong and Chen Qiankun to behave like that. Otherwise, it wouldn’t just damage her relationships with them; it would also destroy the trust between her and Yan En’s people.

Yan Xuesong had indeed been nurturing quite a few little schemes in his heart, but seeing how solemn Huo Sining was, he understood that if he really went in with other motives, she absolutely wouldn’t show any mercy. When that time came, not only would it put him in a difficult spot, the College of Biology would also feel embarrassed—and that was not something he wanted to see.

So Yan Xuesong couldn’t help letting out a sigh. Although he was unwilling, he still nodded and agreed to her conditions.

”Fine, I know what to do. I’ll talk to Old Chen. This trip is purely for orchids; there will absolutely be no other ulterior motives!”

Although she hadn’t dealt with Yan Xuesong much, he had a good relationship with Xie Daoyuan, and from what Xie had said about him, this was a man who valued his word very highly. So Huo Sining trusted his character quite a bit.

With Yan Xuesong’s promise, Huo Sining relaxed and nodded. ”My belly makes it inconvenient now; otherwise, I really wouldn’t want to hand this trip to someone else. Being able to personally take a trip into the Xishuangbanna jungle—wouldn’t that be a thrilling little adventure?”

Yan Xuesong glanced at Huo Sining’s rounded belly and couldn’t help laughing. ”You girl aren’t even my student and I’ve still heard plenty about you. I’ve got you figured out—you’re not someone who can sit still. You’ve only been at university three years; just look at how few days you’ve actually stayed obediently on campus. It’s a wonder Little Gu can put up with you. If it were another man, he’d probably have exploded long ago.”
