Reborn As Super Heiress

The pair of walnuts in Liao Song’s hand have patterns that are mostly worn smooth, and the overall texture is a purple-red hue that shines like agate jade. Although Huo Sining doesn’t understand what type of pairing it is, the purple hue of these walnuts shows that they must be from over a hundred years ago.

Over a hundred years ago, people who could afford to play with such high-quality Mitsubishi Lion’s Head walnuts were basically either from the Imperial Court or princely nobles, indicating that this pair of walnuts either came from the palace or out of a prince’s mansion.

So the 1.3 million that Liao Song spent might not be wasted money after all.

The value of antiques is not only about the object itself but also its historical added value.

If Liao Song could find some evidence to prove that this pair of walnuts came out of a prince’s mansion or the palace, with history and lineage, then this pair wouldn’t be just ordinary playthings.

Of course, Huo Sining isn’t very interested in these antique walnuts; she’s more interested in the trip to the countryside that Liao Song just mentioned.

Huo Sining grew up in the Shu region, so she has never seen what a walnut tree looks like. On one hand, she has a strong curiosity about what walnuts look like when they bloom, and on the other, she is quite interested in the art collector’s practice of observing flowers and identifying fruits for business.

Liao Song is evidently also a novice in this aspect, and Huo Sining is eager to follow along to see how the viewing and collecting of these collectible walnuts is done.

Huo Sining directly expressed her intention. When Liao Song heard that Huo Sining wanted to join in the fun the next day, he was somewhat surprised and a bit amused:

”You’re going around with such a big belly, isn’t that unsafe?”

Huo Sining replied with a smile, ”I know my situation best. Besides, you’re just going to look at goods, not walking into fire or crossing swords; it’s not dangerous. I’m just going to look, it shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

Liao Song was still a bit hesitant: ”If it’s not urgent, I’ll just take a look anyway. If I can’t figure anything out, I’ll leave it. This field is quite complicated, and if I don’t understand it clearly, I won’t get involved for now.”

Huo Sining laughed and said, ”Then forget it.”

Liao Song didn’t directly agree but instead turned to the silent Gu Xu.

Gu Xu has been busy with company matters lately and knows Huo Sining is probably bursting from being at home, and since her condition seems fine, going to the countryside shouldn’t be a problem. So he didn’t directly refuse.

After pondering for a moment, he nodded and said, ”You can go, but Yingzi must follow. Also, take my Maybach, and try not to get out of the car if possible.”

Huo Sining quickly agreed, saying, ”Okay!” almost as if fearing Gu Xu would change his mind.

Gu Xu also has no other option with his wife; she seems born without knowing the word ’restrain.’ Ever since getting pregnant, she’s been stirring up many things, and Gu Xu is truly helpless, having to compromise reluctantly.

The next day, Yingzi drove Huo Sining, Liao Song, and three others to the countryside. The car drove out of the city and took almost two hours before reaching a village at the foot of Fangshan.

On the way there, Liao Song had already called his relative, so when the car arrived at the village entrance, they saw a middle-aged man standing there waving his hand.

”Over there!” Liao Song pointed to the spot where the man was standing, and the car slowly drove over.

As soon as they got out, the middle-aged man greeted them eagerly, saying to Liao Song, ”Brother, why did you come today? I told you to come as soon as possible, didn’t I? You really didn’t come at a good time today. Early this morning, several groups of people came. One wealthy guy even brought cash directly, has already inspected several stocks, and even made direct bookings.”

Hearing this, Liao Song’s face darkened immediately: ”What’s going on? Didn’t you say there hadn’t been customers lined up these days?”

The middle-aged man also frowned but said, ”Originally, there weren’t any, but recently, walnuts have been popular in the market, prices have spiked, and some couldn’t sit still anymore. This person who came to view the goods today also has considerable wealth and directly booked the trees he liked without even negotiating a price. Not only does he have stacks of cash, but he’s even offering prices higher than last year by a tenth.”

”My face isn’t as valuable as money is to people. Some originally agreed to wait a while, but faced with this buyer, they immediately gave in.”

Liao Song understood that his distant relative had already done his best, but the people in the village earn income from these walnut trees, and no amount of face compared to hard cash. Therefore, not even a plea from an actual brother would work.

He helplessly smiled bitterly, nodded, patted this cousin’s shoulder, and sighed:

”If it’s mine, it’s mine; if not, I can’t force it. Aren’t there many households in the village growing these collectible walnuts? Now that he’s still assessing goods, he surely can’t take them all, there will surely be some remaining. Which households haven’t sold? Please take me to see them.”

The middle-aged man sighed at hearing this, knowing that things had reached this point, and there was nothing else to do but rush in before that person had picked all the best trees to see if they could snatch away from others.

The middle-aged man wasted no time in chatter and led Liao Song into the village directly, not even asking who the few people following him were.

Liao Song also knew time was of the essence, only having the option to race against time, so he didn’t introduce those behind him and followed closely behind his distant cousin into the village.

Huo Sining and her party naturally followed behind the two; Zhong Zifan considered Huo Sining’s inconvenient condition, so they didn’t rush but walked beside her slowly, letting Liao Song and his cousin proceed ahead.

Fortunately, the Old Beijing houses all look the same, rural courtyard specifications are quite similar, and one glance could see right through, not worrying that Liao Song and his cousin would disappear into an alley.

From far away, they saw Liao Song following his cousin into someone’s courtyard; Huo Sining didn’t rush and slowly walked forward.

When they entered the courtyard, they surely saw a lush, flowering old walnut tree, with the male owner and female owner standing there while Liao Song circled to survey the tree.

Perhaps noticing Huo Sining and the others, the female owner’s attention shifted and she happily asked:

”Are you here to view the goods too?”
