Reborn As Super Heiress

A natural disaster differs from human misfortune, as these situations fall under force majeure. Therefore, the deposit paid by Wang Zhongwei earlier will certainly not be refunded, but still, he lost hundreds of thousands, which leaves the village chief far from feeling at ease.

What particularly frustrates the village chief is that while many families in the village suffered due to the hail, there were surprisingly six families whose walnut trees remained intact.

Not only the village chief, but other villagers who faced disasters were also quite amazed. However, when they went to investigate, those six families claimed they predicted the stormy weather and were concerned that the storm and rain might damage their walnut trees. So, they covered the trees with tarpaulin in advance.

This explanation left the villagers skeptical, but since the families insisted on this story, the villagers had no choice but to grudgingly accept it as truth.

The village chief, shrewder than the other villagers, knew that the walnut trees of those six families were precisely the ones Wang Zhongwei and Ma Liwen decided not to acquire in the end. This coincidence seemed too convenient to ignore.

Moreover, it was evident to him that when those six families claimed they had covered the walnut trees with fencing, their eyes flickered, exuding guilt, as if concealing something.

The village chief had learned beforehand that the walnut trees from those six families were eventually sold to a distant relative of the Xiao Family, whom he had met before, and it seemed that there existed animosity between this relative and Ma Liwen and Wang Zhongwei.

Combined with the reactions of these families, he quickly sensed there was some fishy business going on. So, when he called Wang Zhongwei, he shared his suspicions and the village matters with him.

The village chief was unaware why Wang Zhongwei and Ma Liwen abandoned the purchase of those six walnut trees, but Wang Zhongwei and Ma Liwen knew well.

Back then, Ma Liwen planned to set a trap for Liao Song and Zhong Zifan. When viewing the trees of those families, he intentionally dragged the household heads into the house for discussions, while Wang Zhongwei took the chance to sneak into the yard, using an extremely sharp antique dagger that Ma Liwen carried, to directly cut the main roots of those walnut trees.

Since Wang Zhongwei personally took action, he was more aware than anyone that after severing the main roots, those trees couldn’t possibly yield fruit, or even survive.

Thus, he confidently believed that once Liao Song fell into the trap, buying those walnut trees, he would inevitably lose those hundreds of thousands, which would be considered interest for him.

After the village chief reported that Liao Song purchased the walnut trees from the six families, Wang Zhongwei and Ma Liwen secretly rejoiced, even going out for a hearty meal at a restaurant.

They predicted that within one or two weeks, problems would arise with those walnut trees, leaving Liao Song no choice but to accept misfortune. Therefore, they did not follow up on the matter further, nor did they specifically inquire the village chief regarding the walnut trees of those families.

They were confident that Liao Song couldn’t escape this predicament.

However, now Wang Zhongwei was informed by the village chief that the six walnut trees Liao Song bought not only survived but also bore fruit. More fortuitously, while walnut trees of other villagers suffered the destruction from hail, the trees from these six families showed no problems, even yielding more fruits than in previous years!

How could this possibly happen?

Wang Zhongwei was utterly furious. He couldn’t believe that walnut trees with severed main roots could still be alive! He was sure he couldn’t be mistaken about cutting those roots!

What went wrong?

After receiving this news, Ma Liwen’s face also turned completely grim.

His partnership with Wang Zhongwei aimed to be the first to break into the Fuzhou walnut market.

But despite all calculations, they didn’t foresee that nature would be so indiscriminate, delivering such a heavy blow at this critical juncture, disrupting all their previous plans.

It was projected that by August or September, when walnuts mature, the actual quantity they could receive would likely be less than one-tenth of their initial estimates.

Without goods in hand, no matter their efforts here, making bricks without straw is impossible.

Moreover, they now faced a competitor, while it remains unknown how much goods this rival, Liao Song, had gathered in his hands. Outside the six walnut trees from Fangshan, did he also acquire goods from other sources? These are all issues!

Ma Liwen never fights unprepared wars. Previously, he brought Wang Zhongwei to Fangshan for walnut acquisition, and deliberately suppressed Liao Song, aiming to weaken the competitor’s position.

Having done all the preparations, they didn’t expect such a huge mess at the last step.

If they had foreseen such matters arising from the Imperial Capital’s side, they ought to have prepared for it, not focusing all eggs in one basket, and at least making rounds to prepare other sources.

Yet, pondering over these now is pointless. They’ve already lost at the starting line; without goods, discussing anything is futile.

”No, we can’t just sit here and do nothing!”

Wang Zhongwei was furious over this matter, itching for a fight with Liao Song. But he knew this would equate to acting like a scoundrel, yet he couldn’t just concede.

Ma Liwen didn’t want to face such a crushing defeat either, yet he was at a loss: ”What can you do?”

Wang Zhongwei sneered: ”Those six walnut trees, I personally severed their main roots, why are they unharmed? Have you considered this, Professor Ma? I suspect there’s certainly something fishy going on, I must find someone to investigate!”

”Furthermore, our competitor is Liao Song. All we need to do is prevent him from selling walnuts this year, hence the market pie in Fuzhou remains intact, no one can manage to take a bite. As long as he is stopped, we could still bounce back next year! If that surname, Liao, fights me, I absolutely will not let him have his way. No matter how many sources he has now, I’ll find out and destroy every single one, never letting him succeed!”

Wang Zhongwei’s words were undeniably vicious. Normally, anyone collaborating with such a person, upon discovering his intense revengeful mindset, would likely be wary, potentially withdrawing and ceasing cooperation.

However, Ma Liwen was different. He was inherently a person of malicious methods, known for employing low tactics. Therefore, upon hearing Wang Zhongwei’s words, not only did he not oppose, but he agreed wholeheartedly, and the two immediately began plotting.
