Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 508: Chapter 504: The Stalker

Heitan’s body suddenly trembled as he lifted his head and looked behind Huo Sining.

Huo Sining patted the creature’s rear, ”Go ahead.”

With his order, Heitan shot off like an arrow on the string and in no time toppled someone over in the other side of the courtyard.

The person, apparently caught completely off guard by this development, was suddenly knocked to the ground by a Tibetan Mastiff, with no awareness whatsoever, and by the time he realized what had happened, he was already pinned down by Heitan.

Looking up to see a big dog with a mane of black fur staring down at him fiercely with its mouth wide open, the person let out a sharp scream in terror, ”Ah--”

Lei Shi also loved to join in the fun. Seeing Heitan take someone down, he got as excited as if he had been injected with chicken blood, and happily rushed over to plop his rear onto the person on the ground, sitting atop him and started to roughhouse with Heitan.

The man on the ground was petrified, his face turning pale with fright, and he called out to Huo Sining in panic, ”Miss Huo--save me--”

Huo Sining approached with a smile, squatted down, and looked at the person inquiringly, ”Captain Chen, why are you following me?”

Indeed, the person lying on the ground was none other than Chen Xiaolong, the Captain of the Hetian Police Department, whom Huo Sining had encountered in Hetian before.

Back in Hetian, Huo Sining was kidnapped by some Uyghur gangsters; she managed to escape using her storage ring, and later taught those Uyghur gangsters a lesson with the Azure Pearl and the storage ring.

Although Huo Sining had taken pleasure in the moment, she hadn’t anticipated that her actions would leave many questions in the case and as a result, attracted police surveillance upon herself.

At that time, Captain Chen Xiaolong had called Huo Sining, requesting her assistance with the investigation at the Hetian Police Department. Huo Sining had learned from Gu Xu that the case had been closed and realized that there was something off about Captain Chen Xiaolong.

At the time, Huo Sining and Gu Xu had been in a rush to leave Hetian and did not want to attract further trouble, thus did not pay it much mind. However, she had not expected this man to follow her all the way from Hetian to S City, and he had been tracking her for several days.

Chen Xiaolong did not dare to move an inch; the two Tibetan Mastiffs lay atop him, eyeing him with a predatory stare, seeming to look for a tender spot to sink their teeth in. Both jaws huffed hot breath at him, their crimson tongues carrying a foul, nauseating scent.

”Miss Huo, I... I do not understand what you are saying, I... did not follow you,” Chen Xiaolong said in a halting manner.

He was not afraid of dogs, but clearly, these were no ordinary dogs.

At this moment, Chen Xiaolong felt an overwhelming sense of fear because he knew that any sudden movement could provoke the Tibetan Mastiffs and he’d easily end up meeting his end right here, never needing to return to Hetian.

Huo Sining snorted coldly, ”Then, could you explain to me, why a Hetian police officer would come all the way here to S City?”

Chen Xiaolong stubbornly retorted, ”I am here to visit relatives.”

Huo Sining chuckled, ”Visiting relatives? Alright then, I pretty much know everyone in this neighborhood, just tell me whose house you were visiting and I’ll go ahead and inform them so your relative can come pick you up.”

”I...”

Chen Xiaolong was at a loss for words; he had sneaked in, and the security in this residential area was very tight. It had taken him quite an effort to find a way in these past few days.

He was extremely careful and calculated, but he never expected such a situation to arise.

Being watched by two Tibetan Mastiffs, Miss Huo posed another difficult problem for him, one he simply couldn’t answer.

”Speak, why are you following me?” Huo Sining asked coldly.

Chen Xiaolong hesitated for a moment before he said, ”I am here to investigate that kidnapping case.”

Huo Sining’s expression darkened, ”As far as I know, that kidnapping case has already been closed!”

Chen Xiaolong said, ”There are still many doubts about the case! Why did those kidnappers not know what happened before they were caught by you? How did you escape, and how did you get those brawny men into the river? Don’t you think you should explain this, Miss Huo?”

At that, Huo Sining’s anger flared up, ”Why should I explain? In this kidnapping case, I am the victim. How those gangsters ended up in the river is none of my concern! They kidnapped me, and the fact that I didn’t kill them is already letting them off easy! You, a policeman, do not investigate the kidnappers and criminals, but instead come to question the faults of the victim. What kind of reasoning is that?!”

Faced with Huo Sining’s scolding, Chen Xiaolong actually looked a bit embarrassed, ”I was just curious.”

”Curious?! What are you curious about?” Huo Sining said angrily.

Chen Xiaolong replied awkwardly, ”Miss Huo, your experiences this past year are full of suspicions themselves. As a criminal detective, I find the history of your wealth very questionable, such as how you got the four million yuan to buy the fish shop...”

Upon hearing this, a chill settled in Huo Sining’s heart, ”Captain Chen, has your job become so boring that you need to spend time invading someone’s privacy? Or, maybe, you also share the same hobby as those tedious gossip reporters to peep at other people’s privacies?!”

Chen Xiaolong’s face immediately turned red. He had worked as a criminal detective in the past and possessed an almost pathological paranoia towards anything suspicious.

Huo Sining’s kidnapping case had seemed extraordinary to him from the moment he took it over, despite the chief’s warning that it could be closed and no further investigation was necessary. But he couldn’t control himself.

What he hadn’t expected was that in his investigation into Huo Sining, the more he uncovered, the more astonished he became, and the more curious he was about this girl.

Huo Sining didn’t care what he was all about, she just looked at Chen Xiaolong coldly and continued, ”I don’t care what you want to investigate. You have now stepped beyond the scope of your duties as a policeman, and I am under no obligation to cooperate with you.”

”Since you are a criminal detective, I assume you are not afraid of dogs, right? Keep track if you like, I’m going home!” Huo Sining said without looking back and started walking to the villa.

”Hey... don’t go... your dog... get your dog out of here... otherwise, I’ll call the police!” Seeing that Huo Sining was really leaving, Chen Xiaolong suddenly became anxious, gasping for breath as he shouted loudly.

Huo Sining turned her head to look at Chen Xiaolong, who was lying in a pitiful state on the ground, ”Aren’t you a policeman yourself?”

”I...” Chen Xiaolong suddenly choked, only then realizing he had gotten the situation wrong.

Indeed, he was a policeman, but in a situation like this, unless the Tibetan Mastiff’s owner gave an order, even the police would be helpless.

Chen Xiaolong was rigid all over while being scratched by Lei Shi and Heitan’s paws, not daring to move a muscle, for fear that any movement would irritate some nerve in these imposing creatures and lead to a savage bite to some part of his body.
