The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu paused her steps and turned to look at the cell separated by a room inside.

By the cell door, a pair of hands clutched the bars, and a disheveled woman called out to her. Seeing Shu Yu turn her head, she hurriedly pushed the hair from her face to the side, revealing a thin and haggard face, and spoke eagerly, ”County magistrate, county magistrate, do you remember me?”

Shu Yu squinted, and the officer beside her frowned and said, ”What are you yelling about...”

Shu Yu raised her hand, and the officer immediately fell silent.

”Cheng Jiatong?”

”Yes, yes, it’s me, the county magistrate has a really good memory.” Cheng Jiatong gave her a fawning smile.

Only then did Shu Yu take a few steps forward and come before her, scrutinizing her with a couple of glances.

It seemed she had suffered a lot during this period. Last year at the beginning of the year when Shu Yu saw her, she was still a proud and arrogant young lady, adorned in pearl hairpins and quite opulent.

Now, she was so thin that the veins on her hands were protruding, and there were bruises on her face, looking particularly miserable.

Shu Yu’s gaze shifted slightly to the side, and she saw that another woman was sharing the same cell with Cheng Jiatong. The woman raised her head, and it turned out to be He Fang, who had pulled Kang Shuxian and others into the mire.

He Fang glanced at Shu Yu but didn’t say anything, her expression very calm. She should be well aware of her outcome, hence she remained composed and had tidied herself up neatly in the cell.

”...County magistrate, I’m innocent, I didn’t know about those things at all, the rebels, the black market, I haven’t even heard of them. I’m just like those ladies, also implicated, county magistrate, please save me.”

Shu Yu withdrew her gaze and looked at Cheng Jiatong, who was crying miserably, and finally spoke, ”Whether you are innocent or not, knowing about those affairs is unimportant. You’re the daughter of the Cheng family; your father and brothers were involved with the rebels, so no one from the Cheng family can escape blame.”

Cheng Jiatong opened her mouth, ”But, but...”

”The benefits your father and brothers brought to the Cheng family in Changjin Prefecture made you rich and powerful. You enjoyed those and acted high and mighty, so you’re not innocent.”

”I’m not, I didn’t, sob sob...” Cheng Jiatong cried out loud, collapsing to the ground.

Shu Yu looked down at her without a shred of sympathy. Cheng Jiatong wanted to ruin Meng Han’s reputation because she fancied Gan Rui, threatened Wei Qin to sign a slave contract for fun on the road, and often resorted to hitting or scolding.

She committed these acts with ease. Would she dare without the Cheng family?

Shu Yu stopped looking at her and turned her head to another side of the cell.

Coincidentally, she saw the first Madam Shu and the eldest young lady; they were also locked up here?

Upon second thought, it made sense. Qingxuan County was the black market’s stronghold, so the most people caught were here. Auxiliary figures like Shu Feng and Cheng Wen were detained elsewhere, but most of their family members were locked here. Because so many were caught, many shared cells.

The Qingxuan County jail was the most heavily guarded.

The first Madam Shu and her daughter seemed to be in low spirits, and upon seeing Shu Yu, they wished to bury their heads.

Shu Yu smiled; Cheng Jiatong perhaps knew nothing, but this mother and daughter pair were definitely aware and deserved the beheading.

Fortunately, when they were captured, Ms. Wu played a significant role and thus deserved credit; she had successfully divorced Shu Feng since then.
