The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu sat beside the Dongqing Temple master, scrutinizing her from head to toe, finding no traces of injury nor signs of mistreatment, and instantly breathed a sigh of relief.

This room was still quite large, with only the Dongqing Temple master locked inside, and all living necessities thoroughly provided. Compared to the cramped room where Lord Cheng was, the Dongqing Temple master’s treatment was clearly much better.

”Master, why are you in the southwest? Didn’t you say you were going to the capital the last time we parted?”

The Dongqing Temple master was also examining her, and seeing that she was fine, felt somewhat reassured, ”A fellow Daoist encountered danger, I came to the southwest to assist him. Unfortunately, I still came too late, the Daoist’s temple was destroyed and he remains missing to date. When I arrived in this southwest, I was also captured.”

Shu Yu frowned, ”Didn’t Master sense the danger here?”

”I can calculate for others but not for myself. Besides, this is my calamity, I can’t avoid it even knowing the danger.”

Shu Yu, ”...” Forget it, her awareness hadn’t reached her master’s level yet, so she refrained from commenting.

”Why are they detaining Master? Surely not just to lure us here?”

”They want me to divine their fortune.”

Shu Yu understood, her master’s expertise had been verified by the previous emperor. Years ago, the Fifth Prince had sent Meng Yunzheng to find the master and have him divine his fortune. In such times, the members of the Imperial Family are increasingly inclined to trust this.

”Did Master do the calculation?”

The Dongqing Temple master nodded, ”I did.”

Shu Yu instantly became interested, ”Then how is their fortune?” She remembered when the master calculated for the Fifth Prince years ago, he said he was the True Emperor, surely it wouldn’t change in a few years, would it?

The Dongqing Temple master spoke softly, ”A spent force.”

Shu Yu, ”...”

The black market people, upon hearing these words, would probably be furious.

A spent force, doesn’t that mean they are simply doomed to fail?

Shu Yu was puzzled, ”Since it’s already calculated, why do they still detain Master?”

”They want me to break the impasse.”

For a moment, Shu Yu didn’t know what to say. Man conquering nature, sometimes there’s some truth to this saying; it’s not surprising they want Master to break the impasse.

”Did Master refuse?”

”Of course, altering fate against the heavens, especially in such matters concerning national fate, if I intervene, not entering the reincarnation cycle of five paths after death, even your grandmaster wouldn’t forgive me.”

Suddenly Shu Yu understood why they hadn’t killed her, they wanted to use her to threaten her master into breaking the impasse?

”Master, since you said Second Prince and the others are already a spent force, can we just lie low? After all, they will lose.”

The Dongqing Temple master gave her a faint glance.

Shu Yu touched her nose, ”Alright, I was joking.” Just because they couldn’t succeed didn’t mean they wouldn’t drag us down to perish together.

Alas, still must get up and work.

Just when she thought so, there came knocking on the door from outside.

Shu Yu lifted her gaze, only to see a middle-aged man walk in.

This man... seems to be the former steward of the Jiangyuan County black market, the one with the string of beads on his hand.

Her gaze instinctively fell on his wrist, but unfortunately, it was covered by his sleeve.

The steward smiled, ”Is the conversation between the temple master and the county magistrate over?”

”Weren’t you listening outside?”

The steward chuckled, ”Then what does the county magistrate think now? Shouldn’t you persuade the Dongqing Temple master?”

Shu Yu raised her eyebrows and suddenly said, ”This... steward, could we talk privately?”
