The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Currently, Wei Qin has no problem with traveling, so she wants to return to Qingxuan County.

”I have some items left in Qingxuan County that I want to retrieve before leaving.” After all, she might never come back here again.

Shu Yu said, ”But the Cheng Family’s shop’s courtyard has been mostly burned, especially your room. Even if it wasn’t burned, whatever remained is probably in the county office.”

Wei Qin laughed, ”I didn’t leave them at the residence. Although those things aren’t valuable, they were taken when I left the Hong Family. Cheng Jiatong, sometimes when she gets angry, she damages my belongings. After it happened once, I took the chance when accompanying her to the temple for incense and hid the items there.”

”So that’s how it is. Fine, I’ll go with you then.”

Wei Qin quickly stopped her, ”No need, no need, you’ve been busy these days, I can go alone.”

”Most of the work has been done, now we’re just waiting for the goods to arrive to open the business. Just as well, I have some matters in Qingxuan County too.”

Wei Qin asked curiously, ”What matters?”

”Looking for a few people.”

Wei Qin didn’t ask who she was looking for. With Shu Yu accompanying, she indeed felt a sigh of relief.

The two packed up simply and set out early the next morning.

The temple Wei Qin spoke of was outside the city, so they went to fetch the items before entering the city.

Qingxuan County is quite far from Hetai Prefecture, they need to stay here for the night.

Thus, upon entering the city, Shu Yu found the inn they had previously stayed in and opened two rooms. This inn seemed somewhat different, at least the staff dressed as Meng Yunzheng wasn’t here.

Shu Yu let Wei Qin rest at the inn while she took Ying Xi to the county office.

She found the county magistrate, who was busy out of his mind, and inquired, ”Are He Fang and Kang Shuxian, those girls, imprisoned in the jail?”

The county magistrate knew whom she was referring to and nodded, ”Yes, they are indeed still confined in the jail.”

”The interrogation isn’t over yet?” Shu Yu already knew the mastermind was He Fang.

However, having interacted with He Fang for so long, it’s hard to say if the others had issues or if anyone was persuaded to rebel. Thus, several girls were all placed in jail. Last time, because He Fang, the spy, wasn’t caught, she stirred up trouble again.

This time, the interrogation of the girls naturally became prolonged and much more rigorous.

”Almost concluded,” said the county magistrate, ”The girls have no issues; after several rounds of questioning, they can be excluded from suspicion. In the coming days, the county office plans to release those cleared from interrogation. If you’re not in a hurry, I can arrange for someone to bring them out.”

Shu Yu pondered for a moment, ”I’ll go over there together.”

”Sure, county magistrate, feel free.” The county magistrate knew Shu Yu was a key figure in this operation, and he found an officer to take Shu Yu to the jail.

The prison was very dark, and Shu Yu followed closely behind the bailiff, clearly feeling that both sides of the prison held many people.

The leading officer said, ”Qingxuan County’s black market involved many people; all those connected were brought in for interrogation, including some who worked in the office and sided with the rebels, implicating their families. Now the jail is overcrowded. It’s dark here; county magistrate, mind your steps.”

Shu Yu nodded, listening to the occasional curses and cries drifting by as she walked.

Soon, they finally stopped outside a somewhat narrow cell.
