The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

The Shu family members left, but just as they reached the door, Shu Zhao, who had not spoken a word until now, suddenly stopped in her tracks.

Shu Quan and Gu Xinghua looked at her in surprise; then they saw Shu Zhao turn around, face Shu Yu, and say solemnly yet calmly, ”I’m sorry.”

Shu Yu raised her head and looked at her somewhat unexpectedly.

However, Shu Quan’s eyes brightened. He felt that his sister was being clever for once, playing the emotional card at such a critical moment. He agreed and looked at her encouragingly, hoping she would say more.

Gu Xinghua opened his mouth to speak but was held back by Shu Quan.

Shu Zhao said, ”I apologize for what I did to you before; some things can only be understood when experienced personally. I’m sorry.”

Shu Yu silently looked at her, not expecting that Shu Zhao would be the first of the Shu family to apologize to her after all this time.

A moment later, she smiled and said, ”Now that you apologize to me, it’s hard for me not to think you’re trying to give Gu Xinghua more leverage.”

”No, I didn’t plan for that; I just...” Shu Zhao didn’t know how to express it.

In the past, she had truly had a bad temper and looked down on Shu Yu, the third daughter. She even envied her for her good looks and bullied her, feeling Schadenfreude over her father neglecting her and her difficult life, watching it like entertainment.

She never thought she was wrong; inequality is inherent in life. She could only blame her bad luck for being born of a concubine.

This mindset didn’t change even when she was exiled to the southwest.

Exile made her life difficult, but her parents were alive, and her brother loved her. Except for the physical hardships that left her exhausted and unbalanced, she was spiritually abundant. Compared to the others in the Shu family, she felt superior.

Until her father and brother turned against each other, and she was often drawn into their conflicts, repeatedly getting hurt.

Until her father casually married her off to a ”lame and ugly old man” she didn’t know, she finally understood she was just another daughter whom her father could abandon at any time, no different from the Sixth Young Lady. Everything she thought was love and care was false; she wasn’t that important.

After she got married and had a child, looking at her soft daughter, she thought if one day her daughter ended up like Shu Yu, being sold and tortured daily, she would probably go mad.

Now, Shu Zhao knows to be content, so facing Shu Yu, she is very calm. Saying the apology isn’t difficult for her.

”I know,” Shu Yu nodded, without saying whether she forgave her or not.

Shu Zhao smiled, then left with her husband and daughter.

It was Shu Quan, who stood in place a bit dazed, secretly sighing: Why didn’t Fourth Sister say a little more?

This time, the Shu family members really left, and Shu Yu continued with her tasks.

She hadn’t confirmed the candidate yet and was still continuing to hire staff, with people coming and going at the Manor, many gathering for excitement.

Shu Yu only promised Gu Xinghua a chance for an interview but never said she’d give him the staff position.

If she found a more suitable candidate, she would still choose someone else.

This matter made Second Madam Shu very dissatisfied, but she dared not say anything in front of Shu Yu; she just grumbled in front of her children, ”I said it was useless, didn’t I? Ah Quan, you returned the money to her, and Shu Zhao, you apologized; now it’s all in vain.”
