The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Meng Yunzheng already knows that the examinee beside him is called Xie Bo. He not only knows his name but also some of his experiences from the whispered gossip of others just now.

For example, he is the male protagonist of the gossip Shu Yu heard earlier—the examinee who placed twelfth in the imperial exam and was caught for an arranged marriage.

No wonder others are also looking at him with strange eyes. Remembering Shu Yu’s eyes flashing with gossip when she talked about it, Meng Yunzheng thought for a moment, then asked while walking out, ”Were you okay on the day the exam results were released?”

Xie Bo, ”...” Is that question a bit too straightforward?

Fortunately, he quite likes Meng Yunzheng’s way of speaking. Compared to those who gossip behind his back, make wild guesses, and badmouth him, Meng Yunzheng is rather open and honest.

He smiled and said, ”My family has an arranged marriage, and the family involved is rather reasonable. Once they found out it was a mistake, they just let me go back home.”

Well, in fact, he had said he was already engaged, but the other party didn’t care. So he simply showed a lecherous expression and ogled all the maids and young ladies in their house, which enraged them to the point of throwing him out in fury.

There was no choice; he couldn’t win in a fight, and escape was impossible. They had even set up the hall, obviously targeting him early on.

Meng Yunzheng raised an eyebrow, ”Are you sure they were reasonable?”

However, since he said the marriage didn’t work out and mentioned having an arranged marriage, it shows that Xie Bo isn’t someone who covets power. He dresses simply, and it’s said that the family that took him sent more than ten house servants, indicating a wealthy family.

If he really wanted the arrangement to succeed, even with an arranged marriage back home, he could have easily annulled it. Such things are common; not to mention those not yet married, even some with wives and children at home could abandon their families with a divorce paper.

Meng Yunzheng did not pry further but instead started talking about this time’s palace exam topic.

The two chatted as they walked out of the Imperial Palace, where quite a few carriages were parked outside.

Xie Bo’s family is average, without a carriage. However, to ensure no mishaps during the palace exam, he still hired one. He lives in North City, not in the same direction as Meng Yunzheng, so they parted ways beside the carriages.

Shu Yu was sitting inside the carriage, watching them part ways with a cupped hand salute, and then asked in a low voice, ”Who is that?”

Meng Yunzheng got into the carriage and drank a few sips from the water she handed over, smiling, ”Xie Bo, the examinee you mentioned earlier who almost got married due to the exam results.”

Shu Yu widened her eyes and suddenly lifted the curtain to see.

Xie Bo happened to be climbing onto a carriage not far away, showing his side profile to her. Despite not matching her Yun, he was still young and handsome, ranking high in the imperial exams. No wonder he was directly carried away.

Shu Yu let down the curtain and eagerly asked, ”So what was the outcome? Seeing you two conversing so congenially, the marriage didn’t happen, right?” Otherwise, Meng Yunzheng wouldn’t deign to associate with someone who abandoned a fiancée back home.

Meng Yunzheng lazily leaned against the pillow, ”Want to know?”

Shu Yu nodded repeatedly.

Unexpectedly, he answered irrelevantly, ”Are you very excited right now?”

Shu Yu was taken aback and nodded, ”Yes, what’s up?”

”When you’re excited, don’t you often have some unusual actions?”

Shu Yu, ”...”
