The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

The examination hall was very quiet, except for the sound of grinding ink, writing, and flipping pages, occasionally accompanied by the subtle footsteps of the invigilator.

It’s only the second day, and everyone’s spirits are quite good.

Meng Yunzheng was even more so; after a night’s rest, he answered the questions with ease, writing swiftly.

However, unexpectedly after noon, the weather suddenly became gloomy.

Soon, raindrops began to fall abundantly.

Various sounds of panic instantly echoed through the examination hall, ”How come it’s raining?”

”Ah, my paper is getting wet.”

The invigilator’s voice quickly sounded, ”Be quiet, everyone.”

No one dared to complain further; those who were quick-witted had already started thinking of ways to block the rain.

The examination sheds were lined up, and the roof eaves extended forward slightly. But if the rain falls straight down, it’s fine; with just a slight slant, the examination table would definitely get wet, making it impossible to write.

When the sky darkened, Meng Yunzheng raised his eyes to glance at the sky, and then took out a slender bamboo pole from the corner. He stood up and set the bamboo pole under the tiles of the eaves on both sides.

The bamboo pole had a light oil cloth like a curtain on it, and pulling it down would tightly cover the area in front of the examination shed.

This oil cloth was prepared by Shu Yu; after learning about the structure of the examination shed from Meng Yunzheng, she felt uneasy about it.

The examination shed being narrow and cramped was manageable, but if there was wind and rain, then it would be truly troublesome.

She packed the oil cloth for him just in case. Although rainy weather in the capital at this time of year was rare, carrying it could still block the wind, preventing him from catching a cold at night while sleeping.

Unexpectedly, it really did rain on the second day of the exam.

Meng Yunzheng looked at the oil cloth and smiled. The rain couldn’t penetrate, but the cloth made the sky even darker.

He simply lit the oil lamp, and then continued the exam while listening to the sound of the rain.

In the evening, he took out Instant Noodles, placed them on the small stove provided by the Examination Hall, lit a charcoal fire, and cooked the noodles before eating them.

Other candidates in the examination sheds had some prior preparations for the rain, and after the initial chaos, they began to answer questions in an orderly manner.

But some had no preparations at all and could only hang their clothes outside or prop up umbrellas. In short, they were using whatever tools they could, in all sorts of ways.

Yet soon, they smelled a rich aroma, making their stomachs rumble with hunger.

Some were so irritated that they simply stopped writing, planning to continue only after the rain stopped, deciding that this night they’d stay up and answer questions by the light of an oil lamp.

However, this rain lasted until midnight.

Luckily, the rain wasn’t too heavy; otherwise, this exam truly couldn’t have been taken.

On the third day of the exams, the weather was clear, and the temperature warmed up a bit.

Meng Yunzheng rolled up the curtain and continued answering questions. Others, greatly affected by yesterday’s rain, were now hard at work writing rapidly.

In comparison, Meng Yunzheng seemed much more relaxed.

Before noon, he had already checked all the papers twice.

After lunch, he sat and rested in the exam shed.

When the patrolling officers came to his section, they saw his desk empty, everything packed away, and him leaning against the wall, eyes closed in rest, and they couldn’t help but glance twice, furrow their brows, and shake their heads as they walked away.

They probably thought that yesterday’s rain prevented him from continuing with the exam and that he had simply given up.
