The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu was still puzzled. She tugged on Meng Yunzheng’s sleeve and asked softly, ”What’s going on?”

The latter explained to her, ”Manager Yun was originally the shopkeeper of the Gong Family Shop. He caught Gong Qiu’s eye solely through his skills. The shop he managed grew larger and more successful, which unexpectedly made others scheme against him. Back then, Gong Chang wanted to recruit him, but not only did he fail, he also let Manager Yun discover that he was secretly lending money at usury. Manager Yun informed Gong Qiu about this, and Gong Qiu reprimanded Gong Chang and smoothed over the usury issue. Originally, this would have been the end of it, but Gong Qiu was narrow-minded and suspected that Manager Yun might use this as leverage and leak it sometime later, which would be detrimental to the Gong Family. So, he tried in every possible way to get rid of Manager Yun.”

As for Meng Yunzheng, he had always arranged for someone to keep an eye on Gong Chang.

He actually knew about Gong Chang’s usury, but it was just minor dealings. Since Meng Yunzheng was still in a dormant period, these matters wouldn’t bring down Gong Qiu, and he had no need to expose himself.

Later, when Gong Qiu wanted to harm Manager Yun, Meng Yunzheng found out about it too.

Manager Yun wasn’t a bad person, and Gong Qiu was ruthless. He wasn’t just targeting Manager Yun but his entire family.

Meng Yunzheng gave Manager Yun an early warning and then arranged for their family of three to travel, pretending to fall off a cliff and faking their deaths while Gong Qiu’s men sabotaged the carriage.

Afterward, Meng Yunzheng entrusted Manager Yun’s family of three to Xiang Weinan, asking him to help find them a livelihood.

The Xiang Family was quite wealthy and had businesses elsewhere too.

So they had Manager Yun stay far away from the capital, change his name, and manage one of the Xiang Family’s shops.

Manager Yun was very capable, and three years ago, after Gong Qiu was beheaded, Xiang Weinan arranged for them to return to the capital and restore their family registry.

Now, under Manager Yun’s management for three years, the shop in the capital was not only flourishing but had practically become the God of Fortune for Xiang Weinan.

Shu Yu suddenly realized, no wonder yesterday she mentioned that the idea to find a shopkeeper was Yun’s, and Xiang Weinan got so angry, thinking Yun wanted him to return the God of Fortune.

Shu Yu chuckled quietly, then raised her eyes to size up Yun Qide.

The latter seemed to perceive her gaze, looked over, and slightly cupped his hands, appearing respectful with a touch of composure.

In an instant, Shu Yu felt a liking for him.

After hearing Meng Yunzheng’s explanation, Xiang Weinan immediately wanted to take back his word.

But it was too late. Meng Yunzheng directly said, ”Manager Yun has been your shopkeeper for a few years now, and the money earned should be plenty. One should be generous; money is just an external possession, but our family Yu is facing difficulties now. As her brother, shouldn’t you lend a hand?”

Shu Yu immediately put on a ’yes, I am very troubled and helpless now, with nowhere to turn’ pitiful look.

Xiang Weinan, ”...” Birds of a feather.

But Meng Yunzheng was right. He was aware of Shu Yu’s current situation and understood Meng Yunzheng’s intentions. In the future, when the couple is not in the capital, he would need to look after the shop there.

Not to mention Shu Yu took care of Xiao Ruojun earlier on, just in the past few days, she had brought them a critical piece of information, saving his wife and child’s lives, which he must repay properly.

So be it, since the person is already here, Manager Yun himself is willing, why play the villain? Just... return things to the rightful owner.
