The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Zhao Xi felt very sympathetic towards Xun Sheng, but fortunately, he carried medicine with him.

Originally meant for Meng Yunzheng, he gave it all to Xun Sheng, ”Take it, the efficacy of this medicine is good, go home and get some sleep, you should be fine.”

”Thank you.” Xun Sheng took the pill and swallowed it directly.

Then he cupped his hands towards the group, ”I won’t stay any longer. I have to enter the examination hall tomorrow; please excuse me.”

”Take care.”

Xun Sheng was supported by the Attendant Student as he walked, his steps were unsteady and faltering, looking at his back, one felt a sense of desolation and misery.

Shu Yu turned to look at the others, most of the scholars were not in good health.

As a result, at the entrance of the Examination Hall, a large group of candidates were being supported as they walked, though some, like Meng Yunzheng, walked with a spring in their step.

”This is only the first session; there are two more to go.”

Meng Yunzheng said while walking towards the carriage, ”This is already considered good. In the exam three years ago, seven or eight people were carried out during the first session. Six years ago, there was a fire during the first session, and several people didn’t escape. And then, nine years ago, it was also not peaceful...”

Shu Yu frowned more and more as she listened, ”This exam isn’t about testing knowledge, it’s a matter of life and death.”

Meng Yunzheng didn’t speak, indeed every time an exam occurs, unexpected events happen. Being carried out due to illness is still considered lucky, while some people spent years studying tirelessly, only to die during the exam.

After they got on the carriage, Meng Yunzheng said, ”After the new emperor ascended the throne, although there was no special examination granted, the environment of the Examination Hall has been improved. I noticed the examination sheds have been renovated. Xun Sheng’s luck is just terrible, encountering a leaking roof during a rain.”

If the new emperor hadn’t valued talents, how could the first exam session be so peaceful?

Shu Yu shook her head, ”Forget it, let’s not talk about this anymore, I don’t want to give you too much mental pressure.”

Meng Yunzheng smiled and held her hand, he was actually fine and not scared.

They soon returned to the small courtyard south of the city, where Shuyou and the hired old women and Ying Xi stood up, ”You’re back, the dishes are already on the stove, they’ll be ready soon; go wash your hands.”

Meng Yunzheng nodded to them. He wanted to take a bath first, having not bathed for three days, he felt uncomfortable all over.

When he came out dressed, the food was already on the table, and the others didn’t ask how he performed in the exam, not wanting to put too much pressure on him.

Instead, it was Meng Yunzheng who was concerned about Shu Yu’s shop matters.

Shu Yu originally didn’t plan to mention it, fearing it would affect him. But since he asked, she thought it would be better to just say it directly rather than leave him guessing, so she nodded, ”The shop is bought, it’s on Futai Street.”

”Futai Street?” This was something Meng Yunzheng hadn’t expected, ”There’s someone selling a shop on Futai Street?”

Shu Yu glanced at him several times and coughed lightly, ”It was sold to me by Miss Cen from the Marquis Yongchang Mansion.”

Meng Yunzheng, ”...”

He was silent for a long time and then said, ”I’ve only met her twice, hardly said a word, and can’t even remember what she looks like.”

Shu Yu almost burst out laughing; she looked up leisurely at his serious explanation.

She lowered her eyes and thought for a moment, ”She looks quite pretty, a little shorter than me, quite thin. Long eyelashes, a small cherry-like mouth, phoenix eyes, her skin is not bad, though there are some furrows between her brows, probably from worrying too much.”

Meng Yunzheng, ”...”
