The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Although it has been a year since the Xiao Family’s incident, when Xiao Ruojun returned to the capital, she still became a topic of gossip during people’s idle conversations.

It wasn’t just her, but also her parents from the Xiao Family.

Father Xiao, having just recovered from a serious illness, found the rumors and malicious visits to be quite unsuitable for recuperating.

Therefore, the three members of the Xiao Family decided to temporarily live outside the city.

Although other properties of the Xiao Family were confiscated, Father Xiao and his family had their own estates, and their contributions during the incident were recognized. The Emperor certainly wouldn’t confiscate their family property; he even rewarded them.

Hence, the Xiao Family still had a manor outside the city, and not only that, they also owned four or five shops inside the city.

In addition, with the dowry Xiao Ruojun received when she got married, they still held considerable assets.

At least, even if they did nothing, the income from a few shops would be enough to ensure they had no worries about food and clothing, as long as they didn’t spend extravagantly, and life would be quite comfortable.

After Shu Yu arrived in the capital, she was originally going to visit the Xiang Family.

However, Meng Yunzheng told her that Xiao Ruojun was not in the city, so Shu Yu did not go.

But she also heard that Xiao Ruojun was doing quite well outside the city. When she was recovering from her illness in Dongan Province, whether at Dongqing Temple or at the manor, she lived a farmer’s life.

Now at the manor, she even started to grow her own vegetables and fruits. She originally wanted to raise chickens, but it was too noisy and disturbed her parents’ rest. Besides, it was quite dirty, and having grown up in luxury, Xiao Ruojun couldn’t tolerate chicken and duck droppings.

Xiang Weinan occasionally went outside the city to see her, and things remained calm for the time being.

Shu Yu hadn’t had the chance to go yet; she planned to visit her after Meng Yunzheng finished his exams.

Unexpectedly, she heard someone mention Xiao Ruojun’s name.

The girl named Wu Ling was saying, ”Lord Xiang, really. Even if he divorces Xiao Ruojun, no one would blame him. Back then, Xiao Ruojun married him through the forceful intervention of that Sinful Consort Xiao. Now that the Xiao Family has committed a crime, even if Lord Xiang dismisses Xiao Ruojun, it is justified.”

”Why are you so eager for Lord Xiang to divorce his wife? Could it be... do you have some ideas?” another girl teased.

Wu Ling blushed slightly and retorted, ”What nonsense are you talking about?” She then sighed, ”There are many people interested in someone as talented and capable in both literary and martial skills as Lord Xiang.”

”Even if there are more, it’s of no use. Xiao Ruojun is still there, and as his legitimate wife, those interested in her can’t become concubines, can they?”

Wu Ling scoffed coldly, ”Being a concubine is out of the question, but... Even if Xiao Ruojun is standing there, what of it? She has no power or influence now. If someone wants to get rid of her to make space, do you think it’s that hard to do?”

”You, how could you say such things?”

”I’m not speaking nonsense.”

Shu Yu’s expression suddenly changed upon hearing this. What did that mean? Is someone planning to harm Xiao Ruojun?

Does Wu Ling know something?

She wanted to listen more closely, but the girl beside Wu Ling didn’t want her to continue speaking and directly changed the subject, ”Right, you said that Wen’an County Lord bought this shop, but what kind of business does she plan to run?”

”How would I know?” She’s never paid attention to a county magistrate from the countryside. ”It’s probably just some local specialties from their region. I doubt the business will be very good.”

Shu Yu slowly stepped back a few paces, then stood in front of the two as if she had just arrived, ”You seem to be very curious about me.”
