The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

”Not very familiar. Princess Jiahui is the daughter of the Great Princess. The Great Princess was previously quite inconspicuous and had little presence, unable to speak much in front of the former Emperor. However, two years ago, during a chaotic time in the capital, the Great Princess happened to be in the palace delivering something to the Empress, and she took a sword blow for the Empress during an assassination attempt. It was then that she caught the Emperor’s attention, and later, the Emperor appointed her daughter as Princess Jiahui.”

Although she was a princess before, she wasn’t valued. Now, having gained power all at once, it’s natural for her to be a bit arrogant.

But being arrogant enough to want to replace another’s wife is going too far.

Shu Yu found it strange, ”How can she be so sure that if something really happened to my sister-in-law, she would definitely become Madam Xiang?”

”Because of that sword blow, the Empress is grateful, and she and the Great Princess have grown quite close over the past year. Perhaps Princess Jiahui thinks that, given their current relationship, requesting an Imperial Decree wouldn’t be difficult.”

As they spoke, Wei Nan couldn’t help but glance at Xiao Ruojun.

The latter didn’t react at first, but the next moment she understood, and her expression turned somewhat unpleasant.

This Princess Jiahui intends to emulate her tactics. Previously, her marriage to Wei Nan was requested by the former Noble Princess Consort Xiao, and now she intends to request it from the Empress...

Shu Yu unexpectedly felt a bit of sympathy for Wei Nan; why do both want to marry him, and none through the right channels?

Xiao Ruojun felt a bit guilty, ”I’m sorry.”

Wei Nan said, ”It’s all in the past. You are my wife now, no need to look back. What matters now is Princess Jiahui’s matter. Things are different now, and even if Princess Jiahui went to seek help from the Empress, the Emperor would intervene.”

Previously, the former Emperor didn’t favor the Xiang Family, so when the Noble Princess Consort Xiao requested it, the former Emperor deemed it not a big deal, thinking the Xiang Family was climbing up to the Xiao Family, and granted it without asking Wei Nan or his parents.

At that time, Wei Nan didn’t have the leverage to oppose the decree and didn’t want to expose his secret allegiance to the Fifth Prince, so the marriage happened.

It’s different now, as he has a connection with the current Emperor. The Emperor knows his aversion to an arranged marriage. As a trusted minister of the Emperor, he wouldn’t issue a decree recklessly without consulting.

Therefore, Wei Nan wasn’t worried, but what worried him was...

”Although the Emperor might not decree a marriage, that’s a matter for later. The pressing issue now is whether Princess Jiahui truly wants to harm Ruojun. If that’s the truth, we certainly can’t let it slide. I will investigate this matter carefully after returning, but for now, Ruojun, you must come and stay at the Count Residence with me.”

Wei Nan turned his head to look at Xiao Ruojun, his expression serious.

Xiao Ruojun was stunned, ”But...”

”The manor is quite far from the city. If something were really to happen, I fear I wouldn’t be able to help in time.”

Shu Yu agreed with this, ”The manor has few people, and people come and go, making it too easy for someone to do something. Back at the Count Residence, even if Princess Jiahui intended to harm you, it wouldn’t be easy.”

She believed that with Wei Nan’s skills, he could secure the Count Residence tightly, and certainly wouldn’t fall into the hands of a suddenly favored princess.

Xiao Ruojun hesitated for a while. Despite having become indifferent to many things, she still cherished her own life.

Seeing Wei Nan’s grave expression, she eventually nodded, albeit with some hesitation, ”But what about my parents...”

”I will have people watch over your father and mother. Their target is you; once you return to the city, they won’t trouble your parents.”
