The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu wasn’t far from the Examination Hall entrance in the first place, so naturally, she followed the crowd forward.

The last two times, Meng Yunzheng was the first to come out, but this time he was nowhere to be seen. The first to come out was a middle-aged man.

Shu Yu was a bit worried, and Zhao Xi frowned even more, ”Could something have happened on the last day?”

He knew the boy’s nature; once the exam was over, he would be eager to rush out to see Shu Yu. Now a quarter of an hour had passed.

Shu Yu looked around and finally saw a somewhat familiar figure, seemingly a candidate from Changjin Prefecture, whom she had seen before.

She hurriedly stepped forward and asked, ”Sir, have you seen Meng Yunzheng?”

The man, his steps unsteady, hearing the voice, thought it was his own servant and almost collapsed forward as his legs gave way.

Luckily, Zhao Xi was quick-eyed and swiftly caught him, ”Are you okay?”

As he spoke, he took the man’s pulse, confirming it was merely a lack of energy, and promptly gave him a sip of hot water.

Only then did the man see clearly who was in front of him. He took a sip of water and, supported by someone, regained some composure. In a hoarse voice, he said, ”Oh, right, you’re the Wen’an County Lord. You’re asking about Brother Meng, aren’t you?”

”Yes, I haven’t seen him come out.”

The candidate waved his hand, ”It’s fine, Brother Xun fainted after finishing his exam and leaving the examination booth halfway. Brother Meng is taking care of him; he’ll be out shortly.”

Shu Yu breathed a sigh of relief, handed the man to the approaching servant, and continued to wait quietly.

Most of the people from the Examination Hall had come out, and Shu Yu finally saw Meng Yunzheng, carrying Xun Sheng, step out of the gate.

The group hurriedly went up to them. Zhao Xi, ever mindful, took Xun Sheng over and, after a diagnosis, waved his hand, saying to the Xun Family servants who also rushed over, ”It’s nothing. His body was always tense; now that the exam is over, he relaxed suddenly, and just fainted. Take him back, let him have a good sleep and rest, and when he wakes up, give him some easily digestible food.”

”Thank you, Doctor Zhao, thank you.”

The Xun Family servants thanked Meng Yunzheng as well and quickly took their master back to the inn.

Shu Yu, on her side, helped Meng Yunzheng onto the carriage and headed straight for the small courtyard in the south of the city.

Meng Yunzheng was in a similar state to the previous two times, as if he only needed a night’s rest at home to rejuvenate, returning to the state he was in on the first day he entered the exam hall.

With the exam over, the group finally asked him about his thoughts on the exams.

Meng Yunzheng was very calm, ”I think it went okay.”

He couldn’t say much else about it.

After all, every examiner has different preferences; if he happened to encounter one who didn’t like the type of articles he wrote, then there was nothing he could do.

Back home, Shuyou and the others had already prepared a table full of delicious food, just waiting to give him a proper treat.

Meng Yunzheng changed his clothes, sat in a chair, and closed his eyes, ”Home is still the best.”

Zhao Xi put a bib on his son, who was struggling with a chicken leg, and grinned at the comment, ”Of course. Your examination booth won’t even let you stretch your legs.”

Shu Yu said, ”It’s finally over now. All that’s left is the palace examination, which only takes one day, so it won’t be as exhausting.”

Zhao Xi wanted to tease her. For others, the palace examination is even more stressful, right? It’s just that Meng Yunzheng had met the current Emperor early on, so he could remain calm when taking the exam in front of him.

As they were enjoying themselves, a sudden knock on the door came from outside, ”Meng Yunzheng, I’ve brought you a guest.”
