The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu listened to this and felt like spitting blood; what does it mean that with Meng Yunzheng’s help she wouldn’t lose? She’s doing business based on her own capabilities, alright.

Forget it, forget it; Cen Yi just met her for the first time, and if she truly believed she had great skills and could make money regardless of what business she did, then she definitely was boasting to deceive her.

Just hearing her praise Meng Yunzheng like this made her quite displeased.

Even if Cen Yi had already married and truly had no improper thoughts about Meng Yunzheng, hearing her fiancé being praised by a rival, she felt an impulse to turn around and leave.

The nanny behind Cen Yi also looked helplessly at her young lady; how could she say such things in front of Wen’an County Lord? She didn’t even have time to stop her; the young lady spoke too quickly.

Seeing Shu Yu remain silent for a long time and not speak, she worried that the other would be unhappy and that this deal would fall through. She immediately tugged Cen Yi’s sleeve and gave her a look.

Other than that, they were still hoping to meet Doctor Zhao.

Luckily, Shu Yu didn’t end up throwing them out but instead lifted her head and asked, ”You just said that the shop indeed has issues, but only targeting you? Tell me first, what’s this about?”

Cen Yi pursed her lips and whispered, ”My shop trades in makeup products and is my dowry shop from my maiden family. But since last year, business has been bad, suffering losses repeatedly. I don’t have a business mind, so the shop has always been left to the shopkeeper. At first, I thought it was just the market, that it would get better in time. Later I realized something was amiss and, upon investigation, found out someone’s been targeting me all along.”

Yes, targeting her.

”Before getting married, I didn’t get along with a girl, and that girl opened a shop not far from mine. She’s lured away my customers and even tarnished my shop’s reputation. Not only that, I’ve discovered there might be their insiders in my shop, but... I’ve got too much on my plate, and I can’t fight them, so I thought about selling the shop.”

She spoke rather tactfully; currently, Cen Yi was already in a dire situation. The Zhou family’s backyard was not peaceful; her maiden family was coldly treated by the Emperor, and she herself hasn’t been able to conceive. Plus, the shopkeeper and staff working in the shop came from her maiden family, and she has no evidence to prove who is the insider.

Not to mention, she herself knows nothing about business.

In such circumstances, she conceived the idea to rent out the shop.

Initially, she truly hadn’t thought about selling it, after all, Futai Street’s location was genuinely excellent, she couldn’t spare any time to manage the shop now, but she might have an opportunity later.

Even though she doesn’t lack money, just selling off a good shop like this, she knew would be the biggest loss.

Until—she found out Shu Yu was looking for a shop front and had rather high requirements, she set her sights on this shop.

Actually, she wanted to come yesterday but the nanny said if she went knocking yesterday and was seen by someone with intentions, they would definitely assume she was going to meet Young Master Meng.

Once this word spreads, both she and Young Master Meng would be in trouble.

Cen Yi endured for a while, then only chose to come over after Meng Yunzheng entered the examination hall. She even dressed up in disguise, though not much help.

But it’s better than nothing, even if seen by someone, they’d think she was here to trouble Wen’an County Lord at most.

But later if she sells the shop to Wen’an County Lord, such rumors would naturally be dispelled.

After listening to Cen Yi’s explanation, Shu Yu understood if what she said was true, then the shop’s business problems were indeed targeting her.
