The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Aunt Hong was very curious about how he had been over the past three years, pulling Little Song Le aside to inquire.

Little Song Le was obedient and well-behaved, almost answering every question, ”I have a best, best friend named Quanquan. He’s half a year younger than me. We go to school and return home together, and he is Aunt’s cousin. We also have a cat named Maneki, who really loves to eat. It’s now so plump that it can’t even walk anymore.”

”...Although Dongan Province isn’t as prosperous as the capital, it’s still very lively. There’s a Dongqing Temple there, and Grandma Lu often takes us to offer incense and wishes. Oh, I also have a safety talisman, and I requested one for my aunt as well.”

As he spoke, he took out a safety talisman from his bag and stuffed it into Aunt Hong’s hands.

She looked at it over and over, incredibly pleased.

”...Aunt’s family has a huge sunflower field. When the flowers bloom, they are exceptionally beautiful, a bright golden hue. Many people come to see them, and quite a few scholars come to the field to recite poetry and hold poetry events.”

”...When we went back last time, we traveled by boat, and the boat was very large. However, it’s been three years already, and I’ve forgotten what happened on the boat. I just remember it swaying, and there were rooms on the boat.”

Aunt Hong listened quietly, occasionally chiming in, feeling increasingly grateful to Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng.

Just from the child’s words, you can tell he has been living very well, with everyone loving and cherishing him. Even at a young age, he has already seen much of the world. Living through most of her life, this old woman hadn’t even been on a boat, let alone seen a sunflower field or Dongqing Temple.

Little Song Le opened up and couldn’t stop talking for a while.

Though Ms. Yu was listening keenly from outside, she knew she had to interrupt them.

When Little Song Le finally paused to take a breath, she quickly smiled and said, ”Mother, it’s getting late, and it’s time to serve the dishes.”

Aunt Hong was taken aback, wasn’t it? It’s her birthday today, and relatives and friends have come over. It’s almost noon.

Ms. Yu smiled at Shu Yu, ”Lady Lu’s seat has been arranged, and we can talk while eating.”

Aunt Hong frowned slightly, especially upon seeing the greedy, calculating expression on Ms. Yu’s face, her expression turned a bit sour.

She said to Ms. Yu, ”It’s so noisy outside, and the seats are all filled. Lady Lu doesn’t know anyone and would feel uncomfortable sitting outside. Daughter-in-law, set up a separate table in my room for Lady Lu to eat.”

Ms. Yu thought for a moment and agreed, and no one else felt there was anything wrong with it.

In their eyes, Shu Yu is the lady from a wealthy family. Just look at her; she can buy a three taels of silver dress without batting an eyelid. She surely prefers fine foods and wouldn’t be happy to share a table and compete for food with them.

Shu Yu didn’t say anything. Initially, she hadn’t planned on eating here. She even thought about taking Aunt Hong to a nearby restaurant for lunch so they could have a private conversation.

Unexpectedly, she coincidentally ran into Aunt Hong’s birthday, with guests filling the house. Naturally, she couldn’t just leave, nor could she take Aunt Hong out alone.

The guests gathered at the door were invited by the Hong family to sit in the courtyard for a feast. Over there, Ms. Yu shouted loudly, ”Houseowner, quickly prepare a separate banquet table, make it look nice. Also, bring out a clean tablecloth and scald the dishes and utensils with hot water.”
