The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Having thought this, Shu Yu still asked, ”Who is this lady?”

The gatekeeper said, ”She said her name is Qiao Rou, the wife of Inspector Lu.”

Lu Wu’s wife??

Shu Yu originally thought it was the wife of Old Master Yang or someone similar, but never expected it to be Qiao Rou. Although she and Qiao Rou were both women and knew each other, she had more contact with Lu Wu.

Like last time before she left Chenggu County, when Qiao Rou asked her to look after the matter of the sisters moving to settle in the southwest, it was Lu Wu who came to speak with her.

Someone who hardly ever appeared before her even if something happened, suddenly showing up like this, must not be here just for a visit.

Shu Yu said, ”Please let her in.”

”Yes.”

Shu Yu turned to Uncle Meng and the others and said, ”Qiao Rou has something to discuss with me, I will go to meet her first.”

”Go on, go on.”

Shu Yu went to the backyard, and soon, Ying Xi brought Qiao Rou over.

Not having seen each other for a year, Qiao Rou’s whole demeanor seemed much milder, especially with her belly slightly protruding, and her face exuded a gentler expression.

Shu Yu hurriedly let her sit down, glanced at her belly, ”You’re pregnant? How many months?”

”Less than six months.”

”Congratulations, congratulations.”

Qiao Rou touched her belly and said with a smile, ”Back when I was in the black market, I was worried about my health, fearing difficulties with having children. I didn’t expect that after half a year of care, this child would come.”

”It means this child is destined to be with you.”

Shu Yu didn’t indulge in small talk with her, as there was indeed pressing business, so she asked candidly, ”I wonder why you have come to see me today?”

Qiao Rou pursed her lips, wanting to speak but hesitating.

Shu Yu said, ”Just speak your mind, don’t worry, even if it’s something wrong, I won’t blame you.”

”Then, alright.” Qiao Rou raised her head, took a deep breath and asked, ”Does the county magistrate remember that I have a few good friends who left the black market and settled in the southwest?”

Shu Yu nodded, ”I remember, before I left last year, Lu Wu asked me to look after them. Why, have they encountered some trouble?”

It shouldn’t be, she had Cheng Dong send a letter to Wang Changdong, and at the end of last year Wang Changdong had sent back a letter saying that they were doing well. If there was really something wrong, he wouldn’t have failed to mention it in the letter.

Qiao Rou shook her head, ”They haven’t run into trouble, but just yesterday, I received a letter from them, saying, saying...”

She wasn’t quite sure how to express it for a moment. She pondered, glanced around, then lowered her voice and said, ”The county magistrate knows that we were all familiar with the black market, and we’re well-acquainted with those who come from and work for it. They said that last year, when they went to buy goods for the new year in the prefecture city of Linzhang Prefecture, they saw a few people, and that feeling... it was like they had seen these people in the black market before.”

Shu Yu’s expression changed slightly, ”Are you saying there’s also a black market in Linzhang Prefecture?”

Could it be that the last black market that the emperor and Qi Lie had been searching for is in the southwest?

Upon hearing this, Qiao Rou shook her head repeatedly, ”No, I’m not sure. Actually, my two friends aren’t sure either, they have no evidence, it’s just a feeling.”

This uncanny sense lacks any tangible reasoning and is hard to articulate.

That’s why Qiao Rou was so hesitant to talk to Shu Yu, as speaking baselessly without evidence would just be playing tricks.

But, what if it’s true?
