The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu understood, to put it plainly, it was still Madam Hou managing things.

However, since Madam Hou was after all a concubine, if Lord Wan let a concubine manage household finances, the Imperial Censor might impeach her.

So nominally, the matters of the household were handed over to professionals for management, but in reality, it was still overseen by Madam Hou.

”It seems Lord Wan treats you... very well.”

This time Madam Hou smiled with a hint of embarrassment, her face slightly red, ”He’s quite nice, although he appears very serious in daily life, he’s actually very easy to talk to. Whatever I want to do at home, what clothes to wear, what food to eat, he lets me decide. He knows I have a sense of propriety and won’t cause trouble, as long as I’m happy, he’s fine with it. A few days ago, a subordinate gave him two maidens, but he found it troublesome and didn’t accept them. He even explained to me not to worry.”

Shu Yu caught the sweetness in her words and couldn’t help but smile.

Unexpectedly, after all the hardships Madam Hou endured, she finally met someone who truly cared for her.

Lord Wan must have developed feelings for Madam Hou, otherwise, he wouldn’t have gone through such lengths to benefit Second Master a lot, bringing Madam Hou over, and also found a way to bring Sixth Young Lady back to the Capital along.

Thinking of Sixth Young Lady, Shu Yu was a bit curious, ”Why haven’t I seen Sixth Young Lady, how is she?”

”Xiaoqing is currently living at her husband’s family.”

Husband’s family? Shu Yu was stunned, ”That guard by Lord Wan’s side? Wasn’t it said to be just a temporary measure?”

Madam Hou nodded, ”Originally, back then, we indeed only intended to use the pretext of marriage to bring Xiaoqing out of Linzhang Prefecture. She was only twelve at the time, how could she marry? But after these years of interaction, Xiaoqing and her nominal husband gradually developed feelings. I see he treats Xiaoqing quite well, even Lord Wan said that man is reliable. Since they were nominally husband and wife, it’s fitting they became a real couple.”

This year, Shu Qing just had her Coming-of-age. Madam Hou and Lord Wan decided to hold a simple wedding banquet for them after the new year.

Speaking of which, it’s just been over half a month since the wedding banquet.

If Shu Yu had come earlier, she might have caught it.

”Unexpectedly, she married earlier than me.”

Madam Hou laughed, ”I was most worried about her in my life, now seeing her doing well, I feel relieved. Her husband is Lord Wan’s guard, with Lord Wan around, he wouldn’t dare to mistreat Xiaoqing.”

Shu Yu thought, no wonder Madam Hou now not only looks radiant but has also become more charming, whether life is good or not shows on the face.

”I remember Lord Wan has a son, right?”

Madam Hou nodded, ”Yes, the legitimate son of the Lord’s former wife, he’s sixteen this year, very studious. The head Madam passed away early, and the Lord didn’t remarry, so the Eldest Young Master lives daily with the Lord’s grandmother, while the Lord personally teaches him in studies and conduct. After I came to the Wan Family, he was very respectful to me. Anyway, as just a concubine, I don’t need to manage other matters, and won’t have more children to compete for the family fortune, so I have no conflicts with him. When we meet, it’s just a nod of greeting, we don’t interact much.”

Sixteen years old, huh.

”Then he’s also reaching marriageable age, isn’t he?”

”It’s still early, the Lord says there’s no need to hurry, now the focus should still be on studies, obtaining success in the exams is what’s important. Once he achieves something, marriage won’t be a concern. These matters are all for the Lord to handle, it’s not appropriate for someone of my status to meddle.”
