The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

However, this incident has thoroughly clarified the rumors about Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu having an illegitimate child.

And Meng Yunzheng’s name has left an indelible impression in the minds of the ministers.

What happened in the court, Shu Yu quickly found out. The next day, she visited the Yao Family with Shuyou and some others, coincidentally meeting Yao Tianqin after he returned from court, who told them about it.

The members of the Yao Family were quite baffled and advised Shu Yu to talk to Meng Yunzheng properly to not let such matters affect his exams. They suggested she stay home and prepare for the exams, seeing no one.

Shu Yu didn’t know if Meng Yunzheng was affected, but as the exam date approached, she began to feel nervous herself.

The day before the exam began, Shu Yu checked Meng Yunzheng’s examination basket thoroughly.

On the day of the exam, she woke up before dawn.

She didn’t know why, but she couldn’t sleep, and with the sky still gray outside, Shu Yu lay in bed for a while, not wanting to sleep anymore, she got dressed and went out.

With nothing to do, she decided to go to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Previously during Meng Yunzheng’s exams, Shu Yu never accompanied him. They always celebrated together after the exams were over.

This was the first time she prepared breakfast for him before his exam.

Shu Yu didn’t know what to prepare, being clueless about any particular customs, so she simply made something to eat, focusing mainly on filling the stomach.

She busied herself alone in the kitchen without asking Ying Xi to help.

By the time the cooking was done, it was just about dawn.

She didn’t know when Meng Yunzheng had gotten up, but he leaned against the door, watching her busy figure with warmth in his heart.

Shu Yu turned around to meet his smiling eyes and immediately said, ”Awake? Go freshen up, let’s quickly finish breakfast and head to the Examination Hall.”

”Okay.” Meng Yunzheng smiled, turned, and went to get water.

After freshening up and returning to the flower hall, he saw the table set with... an oil stick and two eggs?

Even though Meng Yunzheng prided himself on being well-read, he couldn’t fathom the meaning behind such a peculiar arrangement on the plate.

Shu Yu placed a bowl of porridge on the table and said, ”This porridge is quite thick; I was worried that drinking thin porridge might be inconvenient for you.” Considering exams in the Examination Hall, it’s hard to frequently visit the bathroom.

But having no water at all isn’t okay either, it’s quite choking.

”Why are you still standing? Sit down.”

So Meng Yunzheng sat on the chair, then looked at her, ”Is there any meaning behind this oil stick and eggs?”

Shu Yu, ”...”

She touched her nose, gave a dry laugh, ”There’s no special meaning, just made it for you randomly.”

Shu Yu wasn’t aware of what scholars should eat during the exams or if there were any specific customs involved. She simply recalled that during the end-of-term exams in her previous life in elementary school, when her parents were still around, they would prepare oil sticks and eggs, arranged in a manner resembling a score of one hundred.

During college entrance exams, many would wear a qipao, symbolizing triumph.

After busying herself in the kitchen for half a day, it occurred to Shu Yu, as she laid out the oil sticks and eggs, that there was no such thing as a score of one hundred here.

But since it was done, might as well eat it.

Meng Yunzheng didn’t ask further and obediently ate the oil stick and eggs, finishing the porridge as well.

The porridge was as thick as rice, and after eating he felt quite stuffed.

After he finished eating, Zhao Xicai showed up yawning and somewhat tardy, ”You guys are up so early.”

”It’s not early anymore, if we’re any later, the Examination Hall will open.” Shu Yu glared at him irritably, ”We’ll be leaving in a quarter of an hour, if you want to come along, hurry up and eat.”
