The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Meng Yunzheng just smiled and didn’t say much.

Village Chief Fan looked as if he’d just had a revelation, ”I understand.” Matters of secrecy can’t be disclosed.

Since Meng Yunzheng had his own business, Village Chief Fan didn’t want to insist. He was very perceptive of the situation now, and promptly sent those few children back.

Shu Yu then walked over to Meng Yunzheng’s side and whispered, ”Why did you find an excuse to go into the mountains? The village chief will feel awkward seeing you still comfortably staying at home in a while.”

”I didn’t find an excuse, I really do plan to go into the mountains. Come, go with me. Did you bring the sleeve arrows?”

Shu Yu was taken aback, ”Are we really going into the mountains? Of course, I brought them. Why are we going?” Sleeve arrows are lifesaving items, Shu Yu always carried them.

Meng Yunzheng glanced towards the yard, ”I’m taking you to hide for a while.”

Following his gaze, Shu Yu scanned the area and instantly understood.

Today is the second day of the new year, not only have they come, but Madam Li’s family also arrived, plus a number of villagers from Shangshi Village and some neighboring villages who grow sunflowers didn’t have guests over, instead came to pay New Year’s visits.

Especially since Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng were both present this year, the courtyard was bustling. Although Eldest Uncle’s house was quite spacious, now... it’s crowded to the point that children have no room to play and are all outside.

It’s one thing to have a lot of people; the problem is everyone wants to see her to wish her a happy New Year, which is really exhausting.

Meng Yunzheng suggested taking her into the mountains, which was exactly what she wanted.

So her eyes lit up, and she nodded, saying, ”Alright, I’ll prepare and leave right away.”

She instructed Ying Xi to retrieve a set of neat, agile clothing from the carriage, changed into it, then whispered into the old lady’s ear, ”Grandmother, Yun and I are going into the mountains.”

The old lady was surprised, ”In this cold winter, what are you going into the mountains for?”

It’s the same question Village Chief Fan asked, which Shu Yu naturally couldn’t leave unanswered.

She didn’t hide it, saying two sentences in a voice only the old lady could hear. Hearing them, the old lady glared at her, and Shu Yu chuckled, causing the old lady to helplessly tap her forehead, ”Alright then, go ahead, come back early.”

”Got it.”

Madam Li’s mother, sitting nearby, smiled and asked, ”Is the county magistrate going into the mountains? Perfect, let our Boss guide the county magistrate; he knows the mountain paths well.”

The old lady waved her hand, ”No need, they’re going into the mountains for business. Let them handle it themselves, we’ll continue with our conversation.”

Everyone understood they shouldn’t ask further upon hearing this. The more mysteriously the old lady acted, the more they felt the county magistrate had serious business to attend to.

Thus, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng quickly left the house, headed straight for the back mountain with Ying Xi and Xia Yan.

Once they reached the foot of the mountain, they finally let out a sigh of relief.

”Let’s go, climb the mountain and see if there’s any game.” Meng Yunzheng pulled Shu Yu along, leading the way into the mountain.

Following them, Xia Yan and Ying Xi exchanged a glance, paused for a moment, then slowly caught up, clearly tactful enough not to interfere with them.

Shu Yu hadn’t been into the mountains for a long time, and upon looking again, realized that in this winter, the wild grass in the mountains was surprisingly dense.

Previously, during spring and summer, the grass in the mountains was often stripped bare by the villagers, let alone in winter.

As if knowing what she was thinking, Meng Yunzheng smiled, ”In the past, everyone’s life was tough, they had to go into the mountains to gather wild vegetables, chop pigweed, and collect firewood. Whatever was useful in the mountains was used. Now, thanks to your sunflowers, they have a source of income and are better off, leaving much more untouched in the mountains.”
