The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Once the house is built, he won’t need to live in the workshop anymore; he’ll be able to come home every day, and with his two younger sisters so close by, he wouldn’t have to worry about them.

Zhao Gang felt that all the suffering of the past ten-odd years had been for the sake of these two days of good luck.

Shu Yu gave him the silver notes worth thirty taels, and also told him that the team of craftsmen currently building a house for Dazhuang was quite good. If he was willing to wait half a month, he could ask them to put up his house too.

Someone introduced by Shu Yu was naturally no problem. Zhao Gang agreed at once. ”Then, boss, I’ll go clock in first. After work I’ll go talk to the craftsmen and get them to build the house as soon as possible.”

”Mm, go on.”

Watching his departing back, Shu Yu felt quite emotional. She really was a generous and kind boss—holding a raffle and actually letting someone draw a whole house. If this got out, people would probably scold her for being a colossal sucker.

But it didn’t matter. The New Year was almost here; everyone would be visiting relatives and friends, so word would surely spread quickly. Next year, when the shop in the capital opened, this workshop would probably have to keep recruiting. There should be even more people coming to apply.

The news that Zhao Gang had redeemed the first prize spread through the workshop in no time, shocking everyone.

This first prize was really too valuable.

Some people went to ask the other two first-prize winners whether they wanted to trade for a house as well, but both of them declined.

One was a tenant of the sunflower field. He already had a house there; at most, now that he had money, he could just repair it a bit. There was really no need to buy another place.

The other winner was the escort Wan Liangding, who had formed a caravan together with Yuan Gui.

Wan Liangding already had a house in the prefecture. The location wasn’t great and it wasn’t very big, but there was no need to buy another one here. After all, he spent most of the year out escorting goods. When he came back, he could just stay at his home in the prefecture to rest and didn’t need to show up at the workshop every day.

So both of them were still considering exchanging the prize for something else.

Anyway, there was no hurry; they had plenty of time.

After the year-end party, a few more days went by and it was New Year’s Eve.

Last year, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng hadn’t been home. This time not only were there more people in the family, but everyone was together. Even the old lady’s most cherished Granny Fang had been found and brought back, so of course it was lively.

Little Huohuo was the happiest of all. Last year, he couldn’t even walk yet and didn’t remember what New Year was like. This year, when he saw the fireworks shooting into the sky, he almost tormented his father into flying up there.

Only after Meng Yunzheng took him up to the roof ridge and flew back and forth a few times did he finally feel satisfied.

Originally he wasn’t very close to Meng Yunzheng, but ever since New Year’s Eve, Meng Yunzheng had become even dearer to him than his own dad.

Shu Yu even teased him, ”You didn’t see Zhao Xi’s face, he practically wanted to throw a sack over your head.”

”Who told him not to learn martial arts properly before? My dad did teach him.” Unfortunately, he’d only picked up some fancy moves with no real substance. Zhao Xi felt that having excellent Medical Skill was also enough to protect himself anyway.

After the New Year, on the second day of the first month, the whole family went back to Shangshi Village.

These days, the Lu family was one of a kind in Shangshi Village. Every time Shu Yu returned, the village chief had to come over for a visit.

When he heard that this time Meng Yunzheng, the Top Scorer, had come along as well, he got so excited he could hardly contain himself. He hurriedly called over a few children in the village who were studying and pushed them in front of Meng Yunzheng, asking him to help guide their studies.

Although Meng Yunzheng did intend to become a teacher, that didn’t mean that during the New Year, when he’d come as a guest with his fiancée, he still wanted to keep on teaching and educating people.

So he declined with a smile. ”Village chief, we’re about to head into the mountains, so we might not have much time. Let’s do it next time.”

Village Chief Fan said, ”Into the mountains? What are you going into the mountains for in the middle of winter?”
