The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Ms. Kang held Little Huohuo for a while, then asked about the origin of the rumor.

Hearing from Shu Yu that it was the servant they encountered outside yesterday evening, her expression was indescribable.

”The Uncle’s Mansion is truly becoming more and more decadent. A servant who knows nothing about the situation, without even asking clearly, goes back and babbles nonsense. And the people of the Uncle’s Mansion actually believed it?” The issue was that what happened yesterday was spread today in front of so many people.

Shu Yu also found it absurd, but what she found even more incomprehensible was...

”You brought up the old woman for her birthday celebration, why would you mention us? Yun is a scholarly examination candidate, and I’m just a county magistrate, we have no interaction with the people of the capital.”

Ms. Kang, ”...” This, how should I put it?

She glanced at Meng Yunzheng. He had just been listening with great interest, and upon receiving her gaze, he raised an eyebrow and asked, ”What?”

”Nothing, it’s just that although you’re now a scholarly examination candidate, your reputation is quite big, so during casual conversations, you just get talked about?”

Ms. Kang didn’t lie, but she only told half of it.

It was true that Meng Yunzheng’s reputation was big, but the most important reason was the young lady from the Marquis Mansion who once wanted to marry Meng Yunzheng. This girl fancied Meng Yunzheng’s face, didn’t mind his ’foolishness’, didn’t mind his status as one locked outside. As a result, Meng Yunzheng was ’harmed’ into becoming a mute by Madam Gong, leaving the capital to seek medical treatment everywhere.

Later that Marquis family girl got married, but quite a few people knew about that matter.

Today, during the Lord of the Wu family’s birthday celebration, someone who was at odds with that girl intentionally brought up Meng Yunzheng, wanting to disgust her. Unexpectedly, the girl from the Uncle’s Mansion jumped out, saying that Meng Yunzheng had a fiancée, and that fiancée had even given birth to a big fat boy.

Ms. Kang almost thought she had auditory hallucinations when she heard it at the time.

Now hearing Shu Yu’s explanation, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. She said, my Yu is not that kind of disreputable person, how could she have a child out of wedlock?

It was indeed a misunderstanding.

She said to Shu Yu, ”Rest assured, I will help clarify this matter.”

”Then thank you, sister-in-law.” Shu Yu was worried that this matter would affect Meng Yunzheng’s upcoming exam.

Unexpectedly, her concern was not exaggerated at all. Early the next morning, an Imperial Censor impeached Meng Yunzheng, saying that the Top Scorer of Changjin Prefecture was lacking in morals, having a child with Wen’an County Lord before getting married, disgracing the reputation of scholars.

Especially now with Meng Yunzheng being the Top Scorer, he might very well pass as an Advanced Scholar. If such a person enters the imperial court as an official, it would bring shame to the world. He said a lot of things, the central idea was to cancel his qualification for the exam.

Luckily, this was brought up during the court session, the Imperial Censor raised it in front of civil and military officials.

The Emperor on the Dragon Chair listened with a face full of speechlessness, while Yao Tianqin had already learned the truth of the matter from his daughter-in-law and clarified for Meng Yunzheng and Shu Yu on the spot.

The Emperor was very angry and said the Imperial Censor, though having the right to supervise and impeach, spoke recklessly without investigating the matter clearly, which was an abuse of power. If no one clarified, and people believed his rumor, actually canceling Meng Yunzheng’s exam qualification, wouldn’t that ruin his life and cost the imperial court a pillar of talent?

The Imperial Censor was not only reprimanded for the unsuccessful impeachment but also ended up with a pay cut, which made him drag the source of the rumor, the Uncle’s Mansion, down with him in his anger.

Well then, both the Imperial Censor and Uncle’s Mansion suffered in this mess.
