The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Shu Yu understood that Jiang Kuanyu and the Deputy Head Escort’s families had returned to the Northern region. People normally think based on the principle of caring for what’s close by, so they believed the black market should also be in that area.

Therefore, searching in the Northern region seemed logical.

Yunzheng continued, ”Besides the reasons concerning Jiang Kuanyu and the others, there’s also a reason we were misled. Qi Lie and his people discovered some clues, which also pointed to the North.”

Shu Yu was puzzled, ”Misled? How can you be sure it was misleading?”

”There had been no results despite searching the North for so long, and the Emperor was already somewhat suspicious. Coupled with the letter you sent, it’s almost certain that there’s no black market to the North. Now people have gone to check the southwest, hoping to find something.”

If nothing is found, then that letter might also have been misleading.

Evidently, even though the Second Prince has been captured and imprisoned, the forces outside are still formidable. This is why the Emperor hasn’t executed him yet—fearing that those people might act recklessly and harm the citizens if pushed too far.

However, letting things go on like this is not a viable solution.

Shu Yu saw him frowning, staring silently at a certain spot on the table, and waved a hand in front of him, ”What’s wrong? What are you thinking about?”

Yunzheng looked up, exhaled, ”I always feel that something is about to happen.”

”Why do you say that?”

”The Second Prince has been imprisoned for a year now,” Yunzheng said softly, his eyes lifted, ”Over the past year, the prison has been heavily guarded. Everyone thought someone would come to rescue him, yet nothing unexpected has ever happened.”

Shu Yu’s heart skipped a beat; this was indeed odd.

Yunzheng tapped the table lightly twice, ”The imperial examination is soon, and hopefully nothing will happen these days.” If something went wrong during the examinations, it wouldn’t be a typical mishap.

Not only Yunzheng thought so; the Emperor also ordered that the city be on high alert to ensure the examinations proceed without any disturbances.

As a result, the atmosphere in the capital has been very tense lately, and the area where the Second Prince is held is surrounded by multiple layers of security.

The topic was too serious, and Shu Yu did not know the specifics, so she did not ask further.

After Yunzheng finished speaking, he did not continue but instead picked up the blueprints on the table and said, ”After coming to the capital, I went to find an intermediary and asked them to keep an eye on any shops for sale. The location you marked is too prime; I’m afraid there might not be any suitable shops available.”

This is the capital, with plenty of wealthy people, and shops, especially in good locations, sell easily.

Shu Yu shook her head, ”It’s fine, if there’s none to buy, I’ll just rent one.”

”Let Xia Yan take you to see that intermediary some other day.”

As soon as they mentioned Xia Yan, he ran over, ”Sir, Miss, Madam Yao is here.”

Madam Yao??

Isn’t that Ms. Kang?

Shu Yu immediately stood up and went out with Yunzheng. As soon as they reached the courtyard, they saw Ms. Kang already entering through the main gate.

Upon seeing Shu Yu, Ms. Kang’s face instantly lit up with a smile, ”Yu, it’s really you. When did you come to the capital?”

”I arrived last night. I was planning to visit Uncle Yao and Aunt Yao with my elder sister tomorrow.”

”Your sister is here too?”

Shu Yu nodded, walking towards the living room with Ms. Kang while saying, ”She and my brother-in-law went out and haven’t returned yet.”

After Ying Xi served the tea, Shu Yu sat across from Ms. Kang and curiously asked, ”Sister-in-law, why did you come over at this time?”

It’s already late afternoon; generally, people don’t visit at this time.
