The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

At that time, the Lu family was outside the city gates, preparing to bid farewell to Meng Yunzheng, who was heading to the capital for the Imperial Examination.

Today was only the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, but Meng Yunzheng couldn’t delay any longer. Those traveling to the capital for the examination had set off early, while he was only starting his journey after the New Year.

Time was pressing, and Meng Yunzheng planned to reach his destination as quickly as possible. As such, he couldn’t travel with Shu Yu. After all, Shu Yu had to take Little Song Le and wait until after the New Year to leave, as there was still plenty of work at the workshop.

However, this journey didn’t consist of only Meng Yunzheng and Xia Yan; even Zhao Xi was joining them this time.

Zhao Xi had previously connected with a medicinal herb merchant in the capital, who had a plentiful supply of medicinal herbs, including some rare and uncommon ones. Now, he was partnering to open a clinic, so the herbs in the clinic had to be comprehensive.

Common herbs were easy to come by, but slightly rare herbs were always in short supply. Although he could buy them in the prefecture, they were too expensive. After all, Jiangyuan County was just a county town clinic; rich families could manage, but ordinary people would run out of medicine after buying just two doses.

Zhao Xi didn’t want to tarnish his reputation, and since Meng Yunzheng was going to the capital for the Imperial Examination, he decided to make the trip too.

His ambition extended beyond just finding that herb merchant to purchase cheaper herbs; he also wanted to buy in bulk and sell to nearby county town clinics, creating an additional income.

Now that Lu’s Workshop had a transportation fleet that sometimes traveled back and forth to the capital, they could conveniently transport the herbs back on their return trip.

In this way, he wouldn’t have to worry about his supply chain, and the Lu’s fleet would make extra earnings, benefiting both sides.

However... this time, Meng Yunzheng planned to ride to the capital. The thought of spending days on horseback made Zhao Xi feel a dull ache beginning in his rear.

But when his gaze fell on Shuyou, who was holding their child, he straightened his chest silently; providing for the family, even if it meant splitting into four pieces, was worth it.

Meng Yunzheng had already mounted his horse and said to Shu Yu, ”Alright, we have to go now. You should head back first.”

”Okay, have a safe journey. After the Lantern Festival, we’ll head to the capital.”

Meng Yunzheng nodded with a smile, ready to depart.

Just then, Li Anqing, the nephew from Madam Li’s maternal family, arrived.

As Meng Yunzheng tightened the reins, a familiar shout suddenly came from not far away, ”Yu, Yu...”

Meng Yunzheng immediately stopped his horse and turned to look in another direction.

The crowd saw Lu Dasong driving a mule carriage, rushing towards them in haste. The speed was fast, and it looked like the carriage couldn’t stop in time. Meng Yunzheng suddenly leaped off his horse, directly jumped onto the shafts, grabbed the reins, and narrowly stopped the mule carriage while catching Lu Dasong, who almost fell.

This thrilling scene left the others holding their breath, but thankfully it ended without mishap.

The old lady clutched her chest and let out a long sigh of relief. Seeing Lu Dasong disembark, she walked over immediately, ”Driving is driving, why in such a hurry? Do you want to lose your life, huh? If it weren’t for Yun just now, what would you have done?”

Lu Dasong took a few deep breaths, stabilizing himself after a while, ”I was in a bit of a hurry, and the mule got startled, I couldn’t hold it back in time.”

”Why are you in such a rush, delivering a baby?”

Lu Dasong shook his head repeatedly, ”No, I’m in a rush to find Zhao Xi for help.”

”Help?” The old lady was surprised, ”What happened?”
